Chatting with my ‘bro’ Jerry A Lang of Poison Idea, probably the largest punk band in the world... IndieKator 1992

I remember this interview soo well. Flew to LA to interview Megadeth for Metal Hammer in 1992. Arriving a day early with photographer Andy Phillips I suggested we go and see Lemmy. Andy looked at me in horror: “you sure that’s a good idea?!” Past experiences with Lemmy should’ve been a warning - but heyyy c’mon, let’s parteee... Besides Mikkey Dee had just replaced Philthy Animal Taylor on drums and from a journalistic point of view, this could be a scoop. It was.... Dave Mustaine was very gentle with me the following morning after I mentioned Lemmy’s name. A knowing wink... OMG what a day/night I’d had, involving Skid from Love/Hate, his mustang and a lotta cocktails at the Roxy. Combined with the ‘Lemmy experience’, a night to remember. Or forget... Sleepless in LA. (That’s me in the very unmetal white dress...😂)

Word Rationing!
My Dad told me when I was about five that us humans only have a certain quota of words we’re allowed to speak in our lifetimes - and that if I kept on chattering and babbling, I’d run out of words by the time I was seven. I call that child abuse! Anyway, Dad - bless your wonderful, eccentric soul - you were wrong… blahdiblahblahblah… I still witter and witter, but at least I’m lucky enough to be able to spill the overflow, into my writing, my journalism, my songwriting, my music… I am so grateful

...and this kinda went ‘viral’ the day after it was published in Metaltalk.net - well about 5 websites scurried after it anyway lol, and one of them said they would’ve paid me for the story. Who cares? I’m just glad it’s out there.
https://www.loudersound.com/news/lemmy-motorhead-heroin-warning-revealed-after-22-years
I knew Lemmy well and interviewed him countless times for various metal mags (Metal Hammer, ...Fury, ...Attack lol). In the 80s I hung out at his Portobello Road flat sometimes, and I remember one time The Clash’s Topper Headon crashed out on the kitchen floor, and I stayed in ‘Motorcycle Irene’s bedroom staring at a massive python slithering up the inside of a glass case in the corner of the room (didn’t sleep a wink)...
After one Motorhead interview, I sat on Lemmy’s lap as we all batted round London in Brian Robertson’s mini (yep!) to get (more!) wasted at Frank’s Funny Farm, legendary rock bar in Camden...and then there was LA...and that’s another story I’ll regale another day... Ah rock’n’roll ay?

Skunk Anansie, Metal Hammer ‘Check Em Out’ demo page, September 1995.
You can’t say I didn’t warn you. 25 years later and their 2022 tour is testament to SA’s global success and the huge respect they’ve earned. Skin is not just vocalist and songwriter, but author (her autobiography It Takes Blood And Guts was published last September), and DJ... Check out her Absolute Radio show on Sunday eves:
