hey long time no see i hope u have been well! i was just wondering if any of u were active in the tumblr rpc circa 2014-15 (i think that was the right era???) and remember that one luna lovegood blog that got called out for racefaking as an indigenous person. literally just wondering bcus i feel like i hallucinated the whole thing and Nobody i knew back then is active anymore and i swear to GOD this happened and there was like entire blogs made to collect 'proof' abt this person but also: i cannot remember what even happened at the end of all that

not for the first time, jesper is struck by the realisation that kaz continuously toes a precarious line when it comes to wylan — a man who is arguably his strongest secret weapon. he hears the mistrust in wylan's voice, sees it in the furrow of wylan's brows, and he knows it's concern for jesper's safety masquerading as disdain for brekker's schemes, but . . .

"brekker's jobs aren't worth it to anyone but him," jesper agrees, nudging his knee against wylan's, where they're sat cosily close on the sofa nearest the fireplace, "he's got a weird talent for tying fifty small jobs with different pay-offs into one big job, though. and this one — it'll help an old friend,"

he pauses, tempted to take wylan's hand but dithering on the action; an uneasiness steals over jesper's face for the briefest second.

"i haven't told you a lot about — about my life before i came to kerch, have i?"

steadying breath is drawn in through his nose and exhaled past barely parted lips. there are few things that really managed to get under his skin and itch like a few poor chemical combinations he’s made in the past; somehow, kaz brekker’s habit of showing up to their home with a new proposal for a job to get jesper involved in is one of them. it’s never about the money, not really, not now that they have more than he knows what to do with sometimes. it’s about the thrill of it all, the risk taking. and he gets the appeal, he does, he just wishes 99% of these jobs weren’t highly illegal.

not that that deterred him before, but he was also fueled by different motives before ( spite, mainly, and survival ). now, he’d prefer that they not get mixed up in too much more of it, partially for the sake of keeping this business afloat when its already been tough to keep it steady under new management, but also because he worries about jesper. firsthand experience has taught him how dangerous these jobs can be and how much risk kaz is willing to put people in in order to achieve his goal; doesn’t help that they don’t always know the full plan going in, either. he just wants jesper coming home in one piece, preferably not wanted by the law, is that too much to ask?

“okay, hear me out— it might sound like an appealing, lucrative job…but is it? like, is this one actually worth it?”
