sorry if you’ve answered this before, but i’m curious: is there a reason you draw fenlin with only one eye or is that artistic choice? i just find it interesting! lovely work as usual

mostly its a stylistic choice, however i do go out of my way to make sure when I draw her younger (usually before the loss of her child) she has both eyes, but after she has only the one showing. something something about the innocence of her fading away, only showing half of herself to the people around her bc she keeps that to herself.

physically she has both eyes all the time, even through the end of veilguard, but stylistically i only ever draw one!

So... How does Fenlin react to finding out Solas killed Felassan? And how does she find out? I'm dying over this lore...

She finds out in stages. Had she not been grappling with the anchor and pain and almost dying in Trespasser she may have put the pieces together sooner but alas, poor creature can only shoulder so much at a time.

"His friend had to die. Because he thought they were people. A slow arrow breaks in the sad wolf's jaws."

^ THIS line of dialogue in trespasser laid the groundwork for her eventual realization of what solas had done in concert with Solas' direct mention of his agent that failed to reclaim the eluvian network. Fenlin worked closely with Briala after installing her as a shadow leader of Orlais. She heard Briala's stories of an elvhen man who very much sounded like her Felassan and then later was confirmed directly to be him by Briala. Combining that with what Solas said about an agent that failed to reclaim the eluvian network AND cole's dialogue allowed her to put the pieces together eventually.

It does actually take a year or two following the events of Trespasser for her to finally come to that conclusion though. Her reaction is intense, she becomes so distraught over it that she almost instantly falls victim to a Despair demon so powerful that Solas actually has to intervene via the Fade to save her.

Coincidentally this is actually when Solas learns that she was bonded to someone and had a child before he met her. Fenlin plays her personal history extremely close to her chest during inquisition. He had always suspected (she has fading stretch marks) but never confirmed it with her during their time together in the Inquisition.

So when Solas intervenes and sees the despair demon tormenting Fenlin with visions of a baby and Felassan he at first thinks that his presence in the nightmare influenced the visuals used but no. It's a horror for them both. Fenlin almost succumbing to despair and becoming an abomination as she deals with the grief that the love of her life was directly responsible for the death/disappearance (depending on your perspective of Felassan's fate) of her former love and father of her child. Solas realizing that he personally robbed the love of HIS life's lover and also her ability to have lived normally. Would she have gone to the conclave had Felassan been alive? He likely would not have allowed her to go, knowing Solas' plans had he lived.

Its basically a really bad time for them both. Neither ever truly discusses it at length and starts working through it until post-Veilguard in the Black City/Regret Prison.

needless to say both Felassan and Fenlin show up in Solas' regret prison for different reasons. And by my own canon when Fenlin ends up in the Regret prison in veilguard she sees Felassan and Solas. They're a mess, these three.
