MMORPG: Grinding with Automation, Part III
Automation. Botting. AFK Progression. Macro system. AFK Crafting. AFK Mining. Pet system.
Tumblr media
In this three part series, I'll be exploring different tactics in which massively multiplayer online games are incorporating into their games to enable away-from-keyboard systems.
In the third and final installment in this series, I'll focus on "AFK Professions". Production activities such as crafting and mining, mount training, fishing, and other activities that some mind find a bit tedious.
AFK Professions Crafting, Mining, etc. Gain Profession skill points or experience through built in systems that allow you to progress while away.
Black Desert Online: AFK fishing & horse training
EVE Online: AFK mining
Riders of Icarus: AFK mount training
Mabinogi: AFK activities.. Like, all of them. Music training, fishing, etc.. etc..
Twin Saga: AFK fishing, gathering, and farming
Aura Kingdom: AFK fishing
Vindictus: AFK fishing
Dragon Nest: AFK fishing
Dragonica / Dragon Saga: AFK gathering
What do you think of games that allow players to grow their professions while away in MMORPG's? Know of any other games I should add to my list? Leave a comment! Get the discussion rolling.

In this three part series, I’ll be exploring different tactics in which massively multiplayer online games are incorporating into their games to enable away-from-keyboard systems.
In part two of the series, I'll focus on being able to gain experience while afk (not with a botting utility) as well as being able to take advantage of a games programming to advance your characters progression.
Gain Experience while AFK These games have a system in place for your character to "train" while you're away.
Grand Fantasia: Meditation Gem (previously had a Sprite bot but has since been replaced with the Meditation Gem system)
Revelation Online: AFK fishing (gives experience)
Abusing the System (but not against EULA!) These games are capable of being manipulated by players in order to attack while away
Sword of the New World / Granado Espada: Macro system
Asheron's Call: Macro system
EverQuest: Mercenary set-up
Guild Wars 2: Make your pet work for you
Lord of the Rings Online: Make your pet work for you
Tera: Felicity (pet cat) afk level/item farming technique
Last Chaos: AFK pet training
Runescape: Several different methods available
Luna / Luna Reborn: AFK pet usage
Maplestory: Hunter's pets while AFK
Ragnarok Online 1: Homunculus AFK method (Chemists)
Rappelz: AFK Void Mage
Spirit Tales: AFK pet farming
Aura Kingdom: AFK Eidolons
What do you think of AFK experience gain in MMORPG's? What about abuse that isn't against the EULA? Know of any other games I should add to my list? Leave a comment! Get the discussion rolling.

Over the past several years a lot of free-to-play games have introduced an AFK-friendly model, with a few buy-to-play and pay-to-play games following suit. It’s an interesting dilemma, really. Games, whether they’re ultra-grindy or vast with loads of content, shouldn’t come down to fixing what’s broken by adding a system to do the work for players. But, players keep requesting more and more content, making the actual process of leveling-up your character or their professions obsolete but entirely necessary.      Personally, as I’ve aged in my gaming days, I’ve grown to enjoy the afk functionality in MMORPG’s as the repetition does get mind-numbing.  The first game I’d ever experienced anything quite like the idea of AFK grinding was in Playstation 2 game, Final Fantasy XII, using the Negalmuur method. There’s simply a sense of accomplishment in watching the character you’ve trained and equipped be able to fight all on their own while you go do dishes, fold laundry, or even go to work for the day.      Regardless of how you feel about all this automation, I’ve compiled a list of games that have some sort of afk function within it’s coding. Some of them sure do have some strange names!
In this series, I’ll focus on “The Grinders”.
The Grinders These games will literally do the grinding for you. A built-in bot, if you will.
Scions of Fate: Abyss Case
Ether Saga Odyssey: Possessor
Jade Dynasty: Esper Induction
Perfect Word: Auto-Cultivation
Forsaken World: Combat Assist
Wonderland Online: Remote Control
GodsWar Online: AFK System
Angels Online: AFK Function
MU Online: Auto-hunting
Swordsman Online: Self-cultivation
Conquer Online: Auto-hunt
