Howdy girls and boys, it's Frieda Freedom here! Today is June 14th, and that means it's... (drumroll, please!) ...Flag Day!

On this day 247 years ago, the Continental Congress adopted the good ol’ Stars and Stripes as the official flag of our beautiful nation!

Here's some fun facts about Flag Day and our nation's flag:

The flag was first flown in battle on August 3, 1777. It was made there on the battlefield from pieces of the uniforms and clothing of soldiers, officers, and their wives.

The first state to officially celebrate Flag Day was Pennsylvania, back in 1937.

The current 50-star flag was first flown at Fort McHenry on Independence Day in 1960, after Hawaii gained statehood the previous year.

I think I can speak for everyone at the Pizzeria when I say we hope everyone has a wonderful, star-spangled Flag Day! God bless our flag and our amazing nation!

Howdy, everybody! Today’s a mighty special day indeed, it’s the day our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, starting our great nation!

Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers (and the writer of most of the Declaration!) said that it should be celebrated with “pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other,” and I totally agree! I celebrate by watching fireworks, singing patriotic songs (my favorite is “My Country Tis of Thee”), and watching parades.

No matter where you are or how you celebrate I wish you all a patriotic and happy Fourth of July!
