it seems like the key theme of fungus is that they eat everything including things otherwise impossible to eat, they get everywhere with their tiny spores, and they grow and be happy wherever it is wet by eating the surroundings. So if get inside your body (wet) they eat you. so your two main options for being a multicellular organism are developing an immune system (most animals) or hiring other fungus to beat the shit out of the fungus that gets inside your body (most plants)

honest to god we've got to start naming the elderly as a vulnerable group & calling their disabilities, disabilities. we sugarcoat and distance these things by only calling them "elderly," "old & frail," etc. most of them are disabled.
too many people completely separate disability from themselves in their mind. it's something that happens to other people. other sad people i don't want to think about. are they really even people, it's too much to bear thinking about that happening to a person... those background characters over there. it would never be me, i can't cope with thinking about that possibility.
this mass denialism of the fragility of the human body (YOUR human body) has created a whole category separate from the disabled - the "elderly." since anyone can join it if they live long enough.. no they can't be disabled. that's scary, and worse it's political. so they are just "old." so what they lost their hearing, their mobility, their heart function? that's just how it goes for old people. as if that's not a person as real as you. as if you wouldn't be devastated if that happened to you today (and it can btw). as if you won't be when it's your turn to be old, and disabled.
simultaneously the disabled are dehumanized as not people, and the elderly are dehumanized as not disabled. so the illusion of disability as separate can be upheld.

I don't know what paddington is doing on that list, but it made me think of the time someone drew a picture of the queen with paddington after she died, and we had scores of people losing their minds at the idea that paddington bear wasn't the same kind of communist as them

On most issues where I take a given position, I acknowledge that there are compelling reasons someone might have for taking a different position. One of the largest exceptions to this is war with Iran.
I have listened to people trying to justify a war with Iran for 15+ years now and I have never once heard even a single good argument. Every talking point in favor is bullshit, every single one. There has never been any good argument for any US military action against Iran and anyone who tells you otherwise is either stupid, a liar, or both ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

no animal was harmed during the making of this video. not one. for the few minutes that we were shooting film, the guns of each hunter fell silent. the industrial bolt throwers observed a moment's peace and the jaws of every predator hung softly open. no fish bit any hook and the bait worms held off on drowning only until the cameras stopped. the tails of ruminants ceased to flick just as their attendant flies, in unison, landed on their flanks to catch their tiny breaths. a spider instantly stopped winding silk around a wasp, patiently waiting for the caesura to end. a young veterinarian paused with the syringe in their hand. somewhere, a colicky baby stopped biting its mother's nipple and nursed happily for the very first time. we're sorry. we're sorry it couldn't have been longer. we didn't know this would happen.

I do not care so much about the concept of "hope" except in a more personal, perhaps even religious view, but I do care about what can be done, and what can be done is that ecosystems can be protected and restored.
Humanity has managed and mismanaged natural environments since the beginning of our existence. What is different now is that we have a scientific understanding of how ecology works and we can organize our society based on this.

Seeing that Tucker Carlson clip going around and being reminded of conversations a year ago, so just a reminder. When Neo Nazis and White Supremacists say things that make sense politically, they're not coming at it from the same angle as you.
When David Duke expresses support for Palestine, it's not because he cares about Palestinians, it's because he hates Jews, and he wants to use Israel to harm diaspora Jews.
Neo Nazis see the justified opposition to Israel and its actions as a path into new crowds they can radicalize, or a way to launder their rhetoric and their politics.
They don't care about Iran and Iranians, they have a goal, and it's just as horrible as any White Supremacist goal. Especially when it's political figures and not some random bigot you know in your life that can be deradicalized because he's having some epiphany. To right wing figures, everything is a hunting ground.
Don't spread their words as if "even that horrible person sees how bad this is." Fascists have been stealing leftist ideas and talking points since the beginning. He doesn't suddenly care about people of color. He's seeing an opening for something and he's grabbing at it.
You have people you can platform that don't spread rhetoric that enables hate crimes on a regular basis.

we have all noticed that "self-care" basically ended up as a replacement word for "pampering" in a marketing lexicon and not as an active set of behaviours intended to allow the body and brain to adequately rest and revive in the face of the ceaseless crushing grind of capitalism yes
