The Icelander In The Wild
Yesterday I took my fresh paintjob into the wild. The day before it had rained buckets. The first rain in months for SoCal. It was a perfect outing. So exciting to see my bikes colors mixing in the wild with the landscape. A perfect day.

Design Before Beauty
I have as much fun designing my bike paint schemes as I do actually painting them. Prior to painting the final design on the bike I go through a process of design steps. Here’s a quickie look at the steps and some visuals.
1. Sketch ideas. Rough idea of a concept and/or elements of the design.

2. Photoshop: I use this as an evolutionary design tool. I’ll play with a file and make multiple iterations over several days until I feel that I’ve got a complete design. Design below is based off a circle, square and triangle.

3. Paint Can Design: Again I take my final bike concept and convert it into a paint can design so I can paint the actual color palette and have a physical representation of the colors and basic design.

4. Paint can paint test. I love this part. Fun to throw down some paint and be a bit careless and see what happens. This can has several redo’s on it. Failure is the best path to perfection.

5. With all the kinks hopefully worked out it’s time for final paint. I constantly refer back to my Photoshop design for composition on bike frame. I use automotive painters tape to tape off and build the design as I paint the various layers of paint. So fun!

RattleCan
So I woke up one morning a few weeks ago and became obsessed with painting bike frames. It’s sort of a culmination of all the various art projects I’ve done over my lifetime. Needless to say I’m hooked and excited about paint striping the road ahead. Let’s see where this goes!

Matilija Canyon: my new Bestie! Awesome ride yesterday to Matilija and back from Ventura. Perfect training ride and endless amounts of beauty. Could smell the sulphur wafting from the hot springs. A hawk circled overhead with a giant snake hanging from its talons. Another perfect ride! #gravelbike #photoadventure #cyclingadventure #gravecycling #outdoorphotography https://www.instagram.com/p/COvU0E0hGWR/?igshid=1plhte5b7anll

I’m a huge fan of trumpet style flowers. Especially California’s Nightshade. It’s also commonly called Sacred Datura and the native Chumash of SoCal named it Momoy. This was a sacred and ritualistic plant of the Chumash native Americans. Besides ritualistic use it was also used as a sedative for broken bones and other injuries during the time of the native Americans. Yesterday I ran across this unusual specimen with purple trim. Typically the flowers are just white. Was a special find. 📸 #flowers #datura #gravelcycling #gravelbikeworld #graveladventure #cycling #planetmoore https://www.instagram.com/p/COYxMLpB8RD/?igshid=1kl5mq6ssilyn

Grand Canal Gravel Ride from PlanetMoore on Vimeo.
Recently I was in Phoenix, AZ with my bike. I wanted to find an interesting ride that was special to the area. Indeed I found that in the Grand Canal Ride. I made a 60mi round trip from urban Phoenix through the suburbs and out to the farmland and back. Lots of gravel to ride and plenty of varying scenery. I used my Insta360 and iPhone to capture the ride. Love shooting with my Insta360 to create something more unique and interesting to view.
