She looked him up and down. “I guess it’s safe to assume not.” Elenwe giggled. “So are you just going to stand there or join me on the swings.” smiling as she stopped he swing. “Unless you have any better ideas.” Elenwe smiled turn a bit mischievous. “I’m Elenwe and you are?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Well, it seems like I have no choice,” Max answered with a smile, walking forward and sitting on the swing next to hers. He idly started to push himself back and forth until he was gliding on his own. “Oh, I could come up with plenty of ideas, trust me. I’m not sure what exactly you’re into, though.” As he swung back and forth, he was temporarily transported to his past. He didn’t think he’d been on a swing since he was 3. Coming back to the present, he looked over to Elenwe once more. “I’m Max. And I have a feeling I will actually be glad to have met you.”

“Its different.” She felt the hairs on the back of her neck prick in embarrassment a shiver running down her spine. “Thank you,” She hadn’t been flirted with in a long time and truthfully didn’t quite understand. The vagueness of his answer made her want to know even more. The quickness of the wall that went up made her even more curious, he reminded her of her walls too. “I see, glad the story ends with such vagueness, mysteries are fun.” she took another sip, the taste growing on her, she wanted to know him a bit more if that were possible, she didn’t know how much a risk a human could pose. She had already fallen under the curiosity for one human, well, a witch but still as fragile as anyone else.
Tumblr media
Smirking, Max lifted the glass to his lips. “It’s an acquired taste. You’ll get used to it, don’t worry.” He paused, leaning in toward her. “And then you’ll start to like it.” He chuckled and winked before leaning back against the bar. Raising a single eyebrow at her statement, he gave her a big grin and raised his arms. “Well, if you’re in to mysteries then you’re going to have a whole hell of a lot of fun with me.” He drained his glass once more before setting it on the bar. “So, you want to ask me all these questions, but don’t want to reciprocate? Tell me, where are you from? What’s your story?”

Cosima shrugged, she never had an inkling for it. Watching the humans get drunk on mead, star fights while imbibed, taking advantage of others. It wasn’t her kind of thing but maybe here was a new start. Cosima laughed though, he was a human then, someone fascinated with the strange maybe? The bartender set the book in front of her and she took a sip, wrinkling her nose a bit. It wasn’t bad, just very different than anything that shed had before. “Princess? I’m no princess,” she looked at her drink and took another sip. “So where are you from?”
Tumblr media
Max watched Cosima with interest as she picked up her red drink and took a little sip. Her nose wrinkled in distaste and the image made him smile, a chuckle escaping his lips. “What, don’t like it?” he asked as she hesitated before taking another. “You may not be a princess, but you sure as hell look like one... so Princess it is.” Smirking, he sipped his drink as she asked where he was from. Faltering, he looked away, drumming his fingers against the bar. He wasn’t quite a fan of talking about where he came from, considering he hated it with a passion. Clearing his throat, he put the quickest answer together he could think of. “I was born in California, but when I could I moved around to see the world as much as I could. And then I found myself here. End of story.”

“Oh, Ive never had an alcoholic drink, what do you recommend?” Cosima asked and leaned on her elbow some more. She arched a brow, Princess not many people called her that in fact in her time on earth she had never been called that. “Cosima, nice to meet you Max.” She held out her hand with a grin, “What brings you to pandemonium?”
Tumblr media
If Max’s jaw could’ve hit the floor, it would have. He stared at her dumbfounded as she revealed she had never even had a drink. “Seriously?” he asked, shaking his head in disbelief. “That’s fucking unbelievable,” he stated, more to himself than to her. “Well, I certainly wouldn’t start with the hard stuff,” he said, raising his glass to demonstrate before he took another sip. “Maybe something fruity? Here, I know what you should start with.” Gesturing to the bartender, he ordered her a vodka cranberry and another whiskey for him. It took only a few moments for the drinks to be set before them. He shook her hand in return as she introduced herself. “I wanted to see all the fucked up shit that was rumored to be here. Who wouldn’t?” Pausing, he shrugged his shoulders as he continued to drink. It was a very blunt and simple statement, but still the truth. “Alright, Princess, take a sip and tell me what you think.”

“Do you ever look at the sky and just wonder? Wonder about it all and whether it makes sense and what’s the use of drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes and whether we all should just start living like Alaska Young and live to die instead of live to live and it fucks with your head so much that you just start to question your entire existance? Because I think that’s what I’m doing right now.“ Nyle knew that he probably didn’t make sense at the moment, but it was current thoughts that were on his mind.

Max had taken a bite of his sandwich, minding his own business as he always did, when a voice startled him. He looked to his left with questioning eyes as the man rambled on for what seemed like too long about the meaning of life. “Are you tripping, dude?” he asked, almost wondering if he would share whatever it was he had. “Spoiler alert: there is no meaning to our existence. If there is anything my sorry excuse for a life has taught me, it’s that.” He shrugged his shoulders, returning his his sandwich with more apparent interest than the stranger next to him.

Avery watched the other male slam his glass onto the bar. “Well, I’ve lisyened to her a couple times and I know who she is, but she’s not my favorite artist.” He took another sip of his drink as he watched the stranger walk over to the jukebox. “ACDC… back in Black.” A little smile creeped onto his face. Avery was amused as he did actually like the band. “I like ACDC, but I’m more a Nirvana and soundgarden guy.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Max lifted his glass and tilted it towards the other. “Those are also excellent choices. That is real music. Happy to see you are aren’t an idiot.” He lifted his glass to his lips and took a swig. He turned toward the man, running his finger in circles along the rim of the glass. Max surveyed him with interest... he looked relatively young, but Max knew that could be very deceiving in this town. It was quite possible that the man his opposite out-aged him by decades. “So, I’m curious, what brings you to the bar so early in the morning?”

Elenwe was bored, she didn’t know what to do. At the moment she was swinging on one of the swings at the park, Watching the people as she did so. There was a good amount of parents around with their kids. Only a few gave her dirty looks for using one of the swings. Elenwe didn’t care what they thought swinging was fun, and right now she could use some fun. She wondered if she could get someone to join her. Maybe then she wouldn’t be bored. Elenwe’s eyes landed on someone sitting on the bench. “Hey… you,” She called out to them, getting their attention. “Yeah, you… why don’t you join me. Unless you’re scared of being judged by everyone.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The park was much more crowded than Max preferred, especially for it being a weekday afternoon. Sighing, he slouched lower on the bench, taking a drag of his cigarette before stomping it out on the ground next to him. He glanced around, feeling as if his time at the park was up... perhaps it was time to hit the bar. He was about to stand when a voice hit his ears. Looking around, he was surprised to see a woman on the swings staring at him expectantly. He took a quick glance to each side to make sure he wasn’t imagining anything. But yet, it seemed there wasn’t anyone else she could be speaking to. Standing, he walked over toward her, leaning against the pole with a smirk. “Do I really look like I give a shit about what others think?”

Cosima pursed her lips, “This town has all sorts of strange things. Im sure you can infer.” Cosima leaned her head onto her hand watching the man as he spoke. “That’s a bit lonely. I felt that way for awhile. Whats your name?” She asked after a moment. This was her last job of the day so she was basically free and the scruffy looking man in front of her piqued her interest.
Tumblr media
Well, that was true. The town was full of strange things... not to mention things that go bump in the night. It was part of the town’s charm, in Max’s opinion. And it was what had drawn him toward it in the first place. Even if he was human. “Well, then I can infer that you need a drink. I won’t take no for an answer.” A sly grin spread across his face. “No need to feel sorry for me, princess. I prefer it this way.” Lifting his glass to his lips, he took a long sip. “Name’s Max... care to reciprocate?”

She was used to getting attention, she knew that she was attractive. Looking at the younger man and then at the passed out person, she chuckled and tilted her head to the side. When the other looked at her again, she smirked. “Maerilla but you can call me Mae” she told him, voice as sweet as honey. She moved her fingers through his hair and hummed. “And you are?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Mae,” he repeated, feeling as if it suited her. Surprised, he started back as her fingers ran through his hair. That was... rather intimate and a bold move on her part. Clearing his throat, he grabbed his glass and tipped it to his lips, draining it of the whiskey. Raising this finger to indicate a refill, he turned his eyes back to the woman. “I’m Max,” he replied simply, nodding to the bartender as his drink was refilled. “So, what brings you to the bar at this hour? You certainly don’t seem like the ‘get drunk at 10am’ kind of woman. Plus, I’ve never seen you in here before.”

Watching the younger man, she tilted her head to the side and then crossed her arms over her chest. “I wasn’t the one picking the song so don’t ask me” she said and threw her hands up in the air. “Maybe you should ask that pathetic looking fella over there. He looks guilty” she added, licking her lips as she leaned back in her seat once more when she had said what she wanted to say. Mae’s eyes shifted to the man in question, smirking a little.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eyes drifted over to the woman who responded to him, slightly interested. He followed her gaze, eyes falling onto a man passed out cold on top of the bar, drink knocked over beside him. It was a bit early to be so drunk, even by Max’s standards. His gaze lingered a moment longer before it returned to the woman beside him. “You don’t think?” he said, a chuckle escaping his lips. Turning his body to face the woman, he leaned in toward her, elbow resting on the bar, head in his hand. “What’s your name, anyway?” he asked, actually curious.

maybe drinking so early wasn’t too custom here, but back home it was almost a daily occurrence for harley’s mother. and after a call masquerading as an argument from her parents, still back in france, well, she could understand the urge. plus, she’d sober up before work later today, so what was the harm ?? tapping her nails against her drink, she glanced over as the guy next to her mumbled. ❝ mm, i would guess taylor swift. she really should’ve just stuck to the country genre. ❞ not that harley much liked country or pop, they were both equally annoying. ❝ i’ll give ya five bucks if you get them to change it. ❞
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Country? Ugh, the thought made him want to vomit. He looked over to the girl with disinterest. “You can’t be serious.” Songs about tractors and tequila? Max would take a hard pass. However, the promise of a bet piqued his interest. “You’re on,” he said with a smirk, downing his drink before he stood. He gave her one last glance, single eyebrow raised at the challenge. How convenient that he frequented this bar. Stepping around to the other side of the bar, Max motioned to the bartender, smiling as he leaned forward to whisper into his ear. It only took a few seconds for Taylor Swift’s annoying voice to be cut off and replaced with a Pink Floyd song. A large grin on his face, he returned to his seat, palm already outstretched to the girl. “I believe you owe me, ma’am. And then you can buy us both a drink.”

Cosima shrugged her shoulders. She wasn’t too big a fan of modern music, she instead preferred music from the 50s and sixties. She was a rather huge fan as well of Etta James. “Careful now, your eyes could roll so far back they’ll get stuck.” She looked down at the counter and sighed, “I’m technically not legal for one,” she pointed out, “and two, I don’t think you’ll bite, I am here to deliver some books to the bar.” Cosima looked over at the man, he looked a touch unkempt, but it suited him. “What about you, do you drink here a lot or did you need some company?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“If only it were that easy, princess,” he responded, smirking as he sipped his drink. Setting it on the counter, he spun in his chair to face the girl. “What d’you mean technically?” he asked, raising a single eyebrow in question. Books? The thought made Max chuckle. He hadn’t read a book since middle school, and that had only been because it was required of him and SparkNotes wasn’t a thing yet. He literally had no idea who would feel the need to order books in this bar, but he supposed he shouldn’t judge. Shrugging his shoulders at her next question, Max leaned back in his chair, swirling his glass in circles. “Ah, I pretty much drink here daily. I’m all the company I need.”

not having fed for some time now, damien was starting to grow anxious and moodier than usual. having to consume brains wasn’t an ideal situation and it wasn’t something he was sure he’d ever get used to, but besides that, being undead wasn’t completely terrible. and he’d discovered that drinking helped the cravings a bit, so working at a pub was quite nice. spotting a familiar face, he gave him a small nod and grabbed his drink. ❝ hey, max. ❞
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fact that Max’s best (and only) friend worked at a pub was a blessing. If he even believed in blessings... which he didn’t. But if there was such a thing, this was the closest he would get to it. Max raised a hand in greeting, a rare smile on his lips. “Hey, bud. Whiskey?” he asked, his grin widening as he took a seat at the bar in front of his friend. “You know how I like it.” Once he had his drink in hand, he sipped it happily, that familiar burn trickling down his throat. “How’s business today?” he asked casually, knowing that in this town, the pub was always booming.

Avery had stayed up late working on a case. To take a break, he decided to stop at a bar. He figured he would just get a mimosa. The detective was never a day drinker, but he sure needed it after working on something all day. He wasn’t really paying attention to the music until a pop song came on, and a random man grumbled with discontent. “It sounds like Ariana grande… you know that famous female singer…” maybe the voice did not register in the other male’s brain if he had to ask who it was. “I don’t think it’s that bad… there are worse songs they could be playing.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ariana Grande? Who the fuck was that? Groaning, he tipped the glass back and emptied it of its contents. “No, I don’t know,” he answered in return, slamming his empty glass back onto the bar. “Please tell me you don’t actually like this garbage.” Signaling the bartender, the man returned to fill the glass. Max gave the man a nod and wink. “There may be worse songs... but there are far better. Many, for that matter.” Sliding out of his chair, he stumbled over to the jukebox, swaying from side to side as he walked. Inserting some change, he quickly pressed some keys, cutting the song of mid-verse. As he made it back to his chair, ‘Back in Black’ by ACDC began to play. “This is real music, in case you were wondering.”

Cosima was delivering books to a client, the new service the bookstore was attempting to do to draw in more customers. She felt mildly uncomfortable delivering to a bar so early in the day, but, what could she do? Cosima opened the door to the bar, her eyes scanning around. She figured she could drop it off at the bar and it be okay. All Cosima really wanted was to spend the day with Oliver. He was walking now. Soon she’d miss out on all the little things he did and took for granted. “I believe its Taylor Swift, but, I don’t particularly listen to it.” She didn’t mean to intrude on the man’s thought. She sat down beside him; setting the package down in front of her. She felt out of place and awkward here. Only really wanting see her son and go home. “I take it you’re not a fan?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“People actually think this shit is music?” he responded, a groan escaping his lips. Lifting his glass, he drained it of its contents before slamming it back on the bar. He turned his head, getting a good look at the newcomer. She looked... out of place, to put it nicely. Which he never did. “Very perceptive, you are..” His words were accompanied by an eye roll. “What are you doing here, anyway? You hardly fit the alcoholic profile that hangs around this joint.” He tapped the bar with his fingers, the bartender responding in kind by filling his glass. “Plus you seem super uncomfortable. We don’t bite, ya know. Not too hard, anyway.”

Grabbing the empty glass in front of him, Max spun it idly between his fingers, waiting for the bartender to give him a refill. His body was slumped in the high top chair, elbows resting on the bar. The bartender walked by and slid a glass of honey colored whisky toward him, and Max gave a nod in return. The hour was early, probably too early to be on his third glass of whiskey, but he hardly cared. What was life, if not to be enjoyed? That was his life motto, at least in regards to drinking at 10 am. Taking a sip, he sighed with content... that was until the song changed. Some Top 40′s pop hit began blaring throughout the bar, and Max threw has arm up in frustration. “What is this shit?” he grumbled to no one in particular.
