black calla lilies for the Director
black calla lilies are often associated, among other things, with mystery, mourning and transformation

Ooh, good question. On the one hand, with newsletters you've got the immediate potential feedback from 700+ people and that moment of 'I can't take this back' once a mistake is found. But it's over relatively quickly. On the other hand, with the advances you've got a much more slow-burn, longer-term feedback cycle which is way more stressful, but some mechanism to fix them if it's *really* wrong. Tough choice. Maybe what this is really telling me is that I need to pick less stressful career paths!
I've been sending newsletters as part of my job for...years...now. I still get The Fear every single time, and still have the adrenaline when waiting for the twenty minute window of 'by the way, you got this bit wrong' to pass.*
Guess what I've just been doing? Time to put my feet up and not think about it til it rolls around again in two weeks' time.
* The rule is that if you've fucked up, someone will let you know within twenty minutes. Usually they don't wait that long. 'Well, ackshully...' Sigh.

employers will try to convince you that you need a "career" and that you need to "network" and make "professional contacts" and this is false. you need to eat treats with your friends and have a silly niche blog on an unprofitable web platform

Alright! Sorry for being so absent today! I was building a tool so you can all check your own names on demand.
I am asking that you not talk about it on Hugging Face. I'm sure word will get there eventually, but I'd like to avoid them accessing this as much as possible. Feel absolutely free to spread around Tumblr.
Tool is here! Use page 1 to search by username. Use page 2 to search by work ID (which you'll need to do if you're looking for an anonymous work).
That said, I did pay out of pocket for some of the accounts I've needed to do all this. If I need to, I'm fine with eating that cost, but I am going to ask nicely that if you feel like kicking in toward it, you donate to the Ko-Fi I made specifically for this technical project. I was hoping to get a short-term membership, but I was only able to buy access to host this for a full year lmao. BUT regardless, this is freely available to everyone. Do NOT feel like you need to donate if it'll put you in a bad place or even if you just don't want to. Just figured I'd ask instead of quietly sucking up the $180.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the cost to host the tool! I appreciate you so so so much. As of this edit, I'm at $185 total, and right now, I don't expect to have to pay for anything else to keep this available.
I gave the tool a quick test, but please come yell if it stops working. I'm around; I'll fix as fast as I can.
Now with all that being said, time for me to start focusing on how we stop the next scrape.
#well shit#they got three of mine#despite being locked#so I guess locking your fics isnt a guarantee#ao3#wankers

Just a heads up, there are bots going around on AO3 accusing people of using AI. Considering the timing, this is likely AI bros' retaliation for AO3 users calling them out for scraping their work. Examples of what you might be sent:

How To Lock All of Your Fics At Once On Ao3
Someone has probably already done this but
For anyone looking to lock their works for only registered users over on Ao3 in light of the sudowrites scraping thing here is how you can lock all of your fics at once.
Log into Ao3 and go to your Profile, Works or Dashboard

At the top under you’re user name there are four buttons pick Edit Works

Second row of buttons on the right chose All and then hit Edit

Scroll down past all of your works and then keeps scrolling until you find Visibility change it to Only Show to Registered User

(If a fic is over the tag limit you have to edit those down to make edit to the work.)
Hit Update All Works at the very bottom and you are done all of you fics should now have a little blue lock next to your user name on each fic.

Was lucky enough to attend PlayStation: The Concert this evening and hoo boy, what an absolute treat it was. Everything was top notch: music, musicians, visuals, and what a great reflection of how game soundtracks are a proper artform. If you get the chance, go.

i’m going to hold your hands when i say this and i am only going to be kind about it once: ai does not belong in fandom spaces, ever. not in writing, not in art, not in video, not at all. it does not matter how bad you want to see your favourite characters kiss, or how much you need a bit of help finishing a chapter, or whatever.
make friends with artists. commission somebody. learn to draw yourself. ask for a beta read. try a writing partnership. fandom spaces are communities, so engage with them! it is about the journey and the fact that we all love something enough to create and build together about that thing.
spending 30 seconds to kill a tree and get an AI to push out some soulless empty piece of “content” is antithetical to the entire point of being engaged with fandom, and if you’ve taken to doing this you should really reconsider if you belong in these spaces with the rest of us.
#if you don't put any effort into it why should I make the effort to engage with it?#ai is theft#plain and simple#give creativity a go yourself#learn a new skill#it's fun
