I swear nothing makes my blood boil like people saying “there’s already queer rep” and “buddie isn’t actually about representation because if that were the case you’d be happy with what you have” as if there’s somehow a limit on the amount of representation we’re allowed? As if what we have is remotely the same as what it would mean to have buddie?
I love Michael, and I loved the episodes we got with David this season. But it was just two episodes. Most of Michael’s screen time is spent on his relationships with his kids, and with Athena. Which isn’t a bad thing! It’s wonderful to see a healthy relationship between a divorced couple, and between a dad and the new stepdad! But it means that we didn’t actually get to see Michael and David fall in love. We saw them meet, and now they’re living together.
I love Hen so much! She’s amazing! I love her, and her family, and getting to watch her and Karen trying to build a family, and the grief they went through when they lost the embryos, and then the joy they found in fostering. But Karen is only a recurring character. We obviously get more of henren than we do of Michael and David, but they’re still not on par with madney or bathena.
I adore Josh, but the only time we’ve ever seen him on a date, it ended with him getting brutally beaten. It only happened as a setup for the call center to be taken over. And, in general, I think he’s an underused character. I was so thrilled to get some backstory on him last episode! And to see him be the hero and the save the 118? Amazing. But at the end of the day, he’s a recurring character.
Buddie becoming canon would be two main characters. Buck and Eddie get so much screen time already, if some of that screen time was spent on them being in a relationship? If we got to see them fall in love, watch their relationship grow and develop? It would be incredible. On top of that, it would be an opportunity for bisexual representation, of which there is currently none. Stop acting like buddie wouldn’t be extremely meaningful to a lot of people, like we’re not allowed to want more than crumbs.

Types of Fic Writers
Chronic Reviser: sure, they published this fic nineteen years ago, but is anything ever truly done being revised and improved? No.
One and Done: they published it and they’re never going to look at it ever again
Multichapter Who?: they’ve never clicked the “multiple chapters” box in their entire life. Fics could range from 500 to 50,000 words in length but by god it’s going to be in one long block!
Consummate Professional: they have a schedule, they stick to it, and the word count on their fics makes you want to weep tears of either joy or jealousy
Crypto-Writer: yeah they write, but they only share by emailing word docs to their most trusted friends, or, better yet, they keep it all to themselves
PROMPT PROMPT PROMPT: they write exclusively based on asks from Tumblr.  Might have a compilation fic on Ao3, might not.
Validate Me, Senpai: if they don’t get positive reviews, they will cry
Self-Confident or Something I Guess: doesn’t even check their reviews, how do they live
Always the Bridesmaid, Never the Bride: lives to prompt people, never writes anything themselves. Has incredible ideas and you want to read all of them but now the ideas are just in your head, tormenting you until you write them yourself and wait a second was that their plan all along!?
Swans In, Swans Out: their fic filled you with indescribable joy and read like a published novel. You go to their profile and they have no other works. Their sole fic was completed ten years ago
Zombie: comes back to update their fic once every seven years, but they are consistent about it
Roulette: they have a rotating set of WIP fics. They update pretty consistently, but it’s anyone’s guess which fic will be updated next

wild to think about the fact that, right now, as you read this, there’s a fandom server on discord having drama the likes of which we could not even fathom

The Three Laws of Fandom
If you wish to take part in any fandom, you need to accept and respect these three laws.
If you aren’t able to do that, then you need to realise that your actions are making fandom unsafe for creators. That you are stifling creativity.
Like vaccination, fandom only works if everyone respects these rules. Creators need to be free to make their fanart, fanfics and all other content without fear of being harassed or concern-trolled for their creative choices, no matter whether you happen to like that content or not.
The First Law of Fandom
Don’t Like; Don’t Read (DL;DR)
It is up to you what you see online. It is not anyone else’s place to tell you what you should or should not consume in terms of content; it is not up to anyone else to police the internet so that you do not see things you do not like. At the same time, it is not up to YOU to police fandom to protect yourself or anyone else, real or hypothetical.
There are tools out there to help protect you if you have triggers or squicks. Learn to use them, and to take care of your own mental health. If you are consuming fan-made content and you find that you are disliking it - STOP.
The Second Law of Fandom
Your Kink Is Not My Kink (YKINMK)
Simply put, this means that everyone likes different things. It’s not up to you to determine what creators are allowed to create. It’s not up to you to police fandom.
If you don’t like something, you can post meta about it or create contrarian content yourself, seek to convert other fans to your way of thinking.
But you have no right to say to any creator “I do not like this, therefore you should not create it. Nobody should like this. It should not exist.”
It’s not up to you to decide what other people are allowed to like or not like, to create or not to create. That’s censorship. Don’t do it.
The Third Law of Fandom
Ship And Let Ship (SALS)
Much (though not all) fandom is about shipping. There are as many possible ships as there are fans, maybe more. You may have an OTP (One True Pairing), you may have a NOTP, that pairing that makes you want to barf at the very thought of its existence.
It’s not up to you to police ships or to determine what other people are allowed to ship. Just because you find that one particular ship problematic or disgusting, does not mean that other people are not allowed to explore its possibilities in their fanworks.
You are free to create contrarian content, to write meta about why a particular ship is repulsive, to discuss it endlessly on your private blog with like-minded persons.
It is not appropriate to harass creators about their ships, it is not appropriate to demand they do not create any more fanworks about those ships, or that they create fanwork only in a manner that you deem appropriate.
These three laws add up to the following:
You are not paying for fanworks content, and you have no rights to it other than to choose to consume it, or not consume it. If you do choose to consume it, do not then attack the creator if it wasn’t to your taste. That’s the height of bad manners.
Be courteous in fandom. It makes the whole experience better for all of us.

Maybe I’m not doing this right, but @londonspirit has been such a sweetheart and so kind. Love the work you do and I wish you weren’t all the way in Germany! Keep being awesome and have a great 2021!
time to hit up those inboxes!

Year End Ask Game: Send a nice message (or a few), anon or not, to someone who made your fandom life this year a little better. Maybe they made a perfect gifset or piece of fan art, or wrote a fic you really loved, or left a comment on your work that you are still thinking about, or maybe they just write funny posts that always make you smile. We did this last year and it was such a joy seeing everyone spread positivity around to end out the year. And goodness knows, we all need it after the year that was 2020.
Let’s go!

“Plagiarizers lack vision and clarity. By stealing and passing off original work as their own, it may be an attempt to conceal their failure to succeed in certain areas. Just look at Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison.”
— Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery or a malicious move to hide a lack of creativity and inability to produce.

Ian heaves himself up off the floor with a huff when he reaches his hundredth sit-up. Mickey’s still on the bed sorting money into piles and steadfastly ignoring the weight of Ian’s gaze so he decides to go take a shower and hopes the room will feel a little less tense when he comes back.
He doesn’t want to be angry at Mickey is the thing. He loves him more than he’s ever loved anything and he knows who Mickey is. He knows “normal life” and whatever the fuck that’s supposed to be has never been what Mickey’s about. And it’s not- he doesn’t want to change Mickey, y’know? He just wants to keep him here. With Ian. And he can’t do that if Mickey’s back inside a jail cell because they didn’t have enough money for bills at the end of the month.
He dries off and changes into a t-shirt and boxers in the bathroom when he’s finished, hanging his damp towel on top of the shower rod and padding back into the bedroom.
Mickey’s still in the same position he was in when Ian left him but the money’s been hidden away.
“You gonna share a bed with me or is that off the table too?” Mickey grumbles once Ian’s closed the door and Ian can’t help feeling a brief pang of guilt. He’s not doing this to make Mickey think he loves him any less. He sighs, turning around to see Mickey scowling up at him, jaw set defiantly.
“Of course I’m sharing a bed with you,” he murmurs, moving over to the bed and leaning down to kiss the top of Mickey’s head before climbing over him to get settled in the empty space on the mattress.
