The strangler is a rare poison, which makes the person unable to breathe. The poison is made from plants that are only found on islands in the Jade Sea. The leaves of the plant are picked and aged, then soaked in a wash of limes, sugar water and rare spices from the Summer Islands. The leaves are then discarded, but the liquid is kept and thickened with ash and allowed to crystallize. It turns a deep purple color.

Yeah, 'cause...remember the Ninth Doctor? The one that basically mourned the fact that he destroyed his people for HIS ENTIRE SERIES? Remember the Tenth Doctor and the Fires of Pompeii? Moffat, you can't unwrite what was written before your time. Stop it.

I don't think its the emotional equivalent of "it was all a dream" - the Doctor still very much believes he did it, it is very, very real to him. While he now knows he didn't do it, it doesn't change the events or character development prior to this as up until now it was real, something that happened, and not a dream. Without Clara in the 50th, all three doctors would have pressed the button - while he didnt actually do it, I don't see a reason to not believe he is capable of it

Because our head writer said this:

"He wouldn’t. He wouldn’t. I don’t care what’s at stake, he’s not going to do it. So that was the story – of course he never did that. He couldn’t have. He’s the Doctor, he’s the man who doesn’t do that. He’s defined by the fact that he doesn’t do that. Whatever the cost, he will find another way. So it had to be the story of what really happened that he’s forgotten.”

So we have a head writer who literally expressly doesn’t believe the Doctor was capable of it. We also have a head writer who clearly DOES believe the Doctor is capable of brainwashing humanity to do his dirty work for him, and sees nothing wrong with this in the slightest, so how those two things connect, I haven’t the foggiest. But it is increasingly clear with every single episode that Steven Moffat and I do not agree on who the Doctor is, what his story is, or what it should be. So long as the show is in his hands, it is unlikely to resonate with me the way it did under RTD. And frankly, I was resigned to that some time ago. But what he did in the 50th influences the work that came before him and I am not okay with that. I think it is cruel and unusual to make a character suffer so much for so long for something they never did, I think it undermines the work of writers before him who were not writing with the idea that it was all a lie in mind, and I think it is an utterly dull direction to take your story in.
