You may wonder why Finland’s education authorities now insist that all schools must spend time on integration and phenomenon-based teaching when Finnish students’ test scores have been declining in the most recent international tests. The answer is that educators in Finland think, quite correctly, that schools should teach what young people need in their lives rather than try to bring national test scores back to where they were.

This is my first solo piano composition and is based on improvisations using my Yamaha keyboard. I then re-worked the takes on my Digital Audio Workstation. I am now working on the notation for this piece. The title is a reflection of the piece which begins in a classical mode and then just when you think it will continue it changes direction.

One of my favourite jazz groups is the Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ) from the 1960s. This is a gentle nod in their direction and a hoplessly inadequate attempt at what was then called "cool" jazz. Nevertheless, I think it has its moments ;-). As some of you will notice, I am still on a learning curve.

A mood piece that in my mind conjours up oddly behaving electrons and lights in the sky as well as intoxicated robots at a disco.
