This is apparently a hotter take than I thought but: hating on lawyers as a profession, calling them inherently dishonest etc. is politically reactionary. It discourages defendants from seeking legal counsel, puts forth the idea that it’s inherently suspicious to insist on seeing a lawyer before you answer police questioning (your constitutional right!) etc. which ultimately just benefits the state in making it easier for them to convict you. This is one of those things that “progressives” who were raised conservative often don’t realize is one of the parts of their parents’ worldview they should question more, but they should. Not only are lawyers not The Problem with “our system,” but having someone who is educated in the law whose job is to represent your interests in court — getting one regardless of your ability to pay, even! — is in fact one of the best parts of it.

hi if ur unaware georgia 🇬🇪 (where i live) has officially banned gay marriage, gay ‘propaganda’, gender reassignment surgery and anything ’promoting’ it. a trans model, kesaria abramidze, has been murdered as a direct consequence of this legislation. if you have a queer georgian in your life pls let them know they are loved and let this solidify why we Need pride and hope cause jesus fuck man

PSA: BAD LITTERBOX

i don't usually make posts like this, but this is a truly upsetting topic to me as a lifelong cat owner, so i feel i have a duty to share my knowledge with others.

there is a type of automatic litterbox for cats being sold that is EXTREMELY dangerous and has killed numerous cats through blunt force trauma, suffocation, etc. this litterbox is being sold under different brand names and logos, so i will include the picture of the model and two links to informational videos with more evidence and eloquence than i am able to provide.

please consider not having this type of litterbox in your home for your furry friends. me and my 16 year old tortie, puddy, want the best for all your kitty friends

500,000 protestors just in Tel Aviv. That’s 5% of the population of Israel, protesting just in one city. It’s hard to comprehend numbers that big. As a point of comparison, that would be the US population equivalent of sixteen million protestors, or twice the population of New York City, protesting in one place. That doesn’t count any other protest across the rest of the country.

The 2018 women’s march was attended by about 5% of the US population nationally. There has never been a single protest gathering of that many people in one place in the USA. There likely never will be.

People like to pretend that all Israelis are evil genocide supporters. But Israelis are protesting in absolutely fucking massive numbers right now. They are protesting against their government at a larger scale than the United States ever will. That should put the American relationship to our government to shame.

Is there any petty sorrow more infuriating than finding a fic on AO3 that sits at the exact intersection of your most obscure ship and your most oddball kink, checking the author's profile to see what else they've done, and discovering that the piece you've just read is the sole outlier in a solid wall of Harry Potter fanfic?

If you can't wash it off, paint over it, replace the item, or buff it out, turn a message of hate into one of love! I would never condone someone to do this discreetly and in mere seconds with a quickly concealed permanent marker, for example on a public bench or bus stop. Certainly not anything like whipping out a tat machine and adding to an unconscious white supremacist's existing tattoo. That would be illegal! :) And, dear followers, I would never encourage you to do something that's illegal. So, please only use this when someone has defaced your personal property to avoid breaking the law! Because that would be illegal, and following in the law is always in everyone's best interest. :) .... :) reblogs and even reposts definitely welcome

Prisons/Jails vs Colleges - More prisons or more colleges?

Synthetic fabric like that is also horrible for nesting birds - if they find leftover parts of it in spring, the young birds are in danger of getting entangled in it in the next and losing limbs.

All of my friends that work at wildlife rehab centers have had to untangle animals from this stuff, or had animals brought in that died in it. This is especially nasty for small owl species.

Sure tumblr had the stupid infinite chocolate glitch, but at least it wasn't as real-world devastating as the people doing the Chase bank "infinite money glitch" this past weekend.
