There's a very specific version of Aki that I have in my head, and it's very hard to describe. It's more of a feeling, a vibe, if you will. He's kind of an asshole– anti-social, doesn't smile much, rarely cracks jokes or seems to enjoy himself, even in the company of those he's closest to. He usually seems bored or simply apathetic about what's going on around him. He smokes, he observes, he might carry on a quiet sidebar conversation with an acquaintance, but he otherwise looks just....disinterested. And it isn't because he doesn't care, necessarily– it's because he's quietly fascinated with the way others interact with each other, and because he's afraid to form any sort of close connections with anyone because he knows his days are numbered.

And when he first meets you, he's terrified. After years of suppressing his emotions, of always being the cold, aloof presence in any situation, he wonders why the room is suddenly closing in around him and he can't breathe. You're charming and your smile is radiant, your energy electric. And for the first time in his life, he thinks he just might want to break his own rules. He wants to know you. He wants to hear your laugh and feel your hand in his. He wonders if your lips are as soft as they look. He's never felt pulled to someone like he is to you. It doesn't make sense, and he's not sure that he likes it.

You know. You sense how he hesitates. But you slide so effortlessly into his everyday life that soon enough, he can't imagine existing without you anymore. It's then that he considers retiring from devil hunting, because he's finally found something to live for besides revenge.
