Goat (Story Number 4 in the 100-Word Richard and Camille Drabble Series 2)

Are you saying you want to use a goat as your alibi?

*Benjamin Sammi nods while the baby goat bleats.*

Feeding Richard. *she writes in her notebook*

*He stares at her, unsmiling.*

She knew he was in a sulk. He walked off without saying a word. He slammed the Defender’s door shut and irritatedly put his seatbelt on. She was amused at first but now, she was getting cross. “What?” She asked, almost like a challenge. He groused audibly: “Really? You named a goat after me?!” She rolled her eyes. “It’s a great name for a goat,” she said, wanting to add: ‘Because goats are curious, independent and intelligent creatures. Like you.’ But he interjected: “You did that to get back at me!” She wished she thought of another name instead.

Summary:

When the evidence in a case forces to Richard to lock up Camille for the remainder of the investigation, he becomes more determined than ever to prove her innocence. And this strange predicament causes both prisoner and detective to discover something about their relationship.

Here is a brand new Richard and Camille fanfic! *does a dance of joy* This fanfic is a salve to my bruised fangirl heart after that third DiP novel, which I shan’t refer to by title because I’m still unsatisfied with it. Harrummph! Oh, I know I’m just being dramatic about it (T^T). No worries, I shall bounce back by reading and re-reading a shiton of fanfic. And this one came just in time. So how are we going back?

We have the bike.

Oh. Actually, do you know what? I…I think I might walk.

Are you sure?

Yeah...yeah, why not? You know, it's a lovely day.

Well, it's seven miles.

I'll…I'll be brisk.

In the sun?

Um yeah, well, it's…it's 96 in the shade, it's practically a cold snap…

She didn’t know why he abhorred riding the motorbike so much. It was a newer model, better than what Dwayne had before he came to the island. She decided to drive slowly behind him. “You can go on ahead,” he said, mopping the sweat off his face with his handkerchief and stepping on the side of the road. “What and leave you here in the middle of nowhere to faint from the heat?” She gave him a look that signified he was being stubborn. “It’s just...it’s uncomfortable,” he protested. “Don’t worry. I promise I’ll be gentle,” she teased wickedly.

Petrichor (Story Number 2 in the 100-Word Richard and Camille Drabble Series 2)

The first rainstorm of the season caught them off guard. One minute, it was blazing hot, the next, rain poured down in torrents. He silently cursed himself for forgetting to buy a new umbrella. The old one they usually use broke during the last hurricane. Now, they were both rain-soaked, seeking shelter under a makeshift bus stop. They parked the Defender a mile away due to muddy roads. “Let’s use my parka. It’s waterproof,” she suggested, moving closer to drape it over their heads. Her scent assaulted him in the most pleasant of ways. Eyes closed, he thought: ‘Petrichor.’

Dance (Story Number 1 in the 100-Word Richard and Camille Drabble Series 2)

“You owe me a dance,” she announced as they drove toward his beach shack. He huffed. “I’m afraid that’s the first and the last. Anyway, I told you I couldn’t dance.” She shot him a quick look and said: “You danced fine to me. You even know how to hold a woman in a dance.” He looked out the window, face turning red. “Well, I’m not totally clueless when it comes to slow dancing, you know.” She smiled, happy at her success in making him admit something. “Then, you owe me a proper one.” He stopped himself from grinning widely.

I am brand new to this series, but quickly fell in love with Richard and Camille. I am in the middle of writing my first fan fiction for this pairing and am so torn about how to end it. My instinct is to let Richard be his usual, awkward self and withdraw from the situation. But my shipper self is really wanting Camille to just kiss him already! GAH! I can't decide!

Robert Thorogood already has the monopoly of writing Richard in ‘his usual, awkward self’ who ‘withdraw from the situation.’ LOL Sorry I just finished reading the third DiP novel, you see, and I’m pretty much convinced that it is up to Richard and Camille fanfic writers to get these two ‘lovebirds’ together. Thorogood is useless in that department, I tell you.

SO YES! FOLLOW YOUR HEART AND WRITE THE RICHARD AND CAMILLE FANFIC THAT WOULD GIVE YOU (AND ALL OF US, FELLOW FANS) THE SHIPPER SATISFACTION WE ALL DESERVE. Please! (T____________T) I beg you. I’m in need of new RxC fanfics to read.

Oh wow! Where do I begin? Y’all know we love Sara Martins on this fansite. We love her to bits and for us, she will always be the best detective sergeant in Death in Paradise. As her birthday song states, she’s truly unforgettable as DS Camille Bordey. 

I’m glad that she remains active as an actor in France and continues to hone her acting skills. I wish that some of the series she’s in would be shown here in the US. Sadly, I’ve only seen the first season of Detectives (which is as old as DiP). It would be awesome to see her in our tellies again (and no, American Odyssey doesn’t count...LOL).

Be that as it may, we still wish her more successes and happiness in both her career and personal life. Sara, je te souhaite beaucoup de santé, de bonheur, des jours ensoleillés et des moments inoubliables. Joyeux anniversaire!

I’m sharing this link here because I don’t have a copy of this book yet, which is set to be released on the 27th of July. (T_______T) I want my Original Team Saint Marie on Death in Paradise fix and of course, my Richard and Camille OTP drug. Not that this book is going to give me what I want for this couple BUT...ugh...just read this review I happen to find on goodreads.com. The reviewer says there’s ‘a tantalising moment of flirtation between Richard and Camille’...*faints* Is it something to be hopeful for, is it something to get excited about, is it something I can expand with my imagination and write fanfiction about??? GAH, I freakin’ want to read this bloody book now! Oh why is July 27 so far away.

Has anyone ever spoken to Robert Thorogood about this relationship? Is there an interview somewhere where he comments about it? Talks about? Explains why he freakin' killed him? Says if he was going to ever do something with these two? I've been reading the novels, and I'm sorry to say that, if anything, their relationship seems to take a step BACK, rather than forward in those, despite them being set between 2.8 and the lamentable 3.1. Could really use some info, if not outright hope.

I’m afraid there’s no ‘outright’ hope from Robert Thorogood about the ‘romantic’ relationship between Richard and Camille. If anything, Thorogood is quite oblivious to the fact or perhaps, he’s just not seeing anything romantic between these two characters he created. And this notion is seemingly supported by how, in the two novels, the two’s relationship doesn’t even reflect what we saw in the first two seasons of the TV series. I have an uneasy feeling that Thorogood has no plans to go that route for our two favourite characters if he’s planning to write more DiP novels. And that just makes me utterly sad for this couple. On another note, I’m in awe at how so many fans of DiP ‘see’ this kind of relationship between Richard and Camille, it just goes to show the weight of the actors’ performance and the rapport they have with each other. Ben Miller and Sara Martins really did a great job in making these characters so memorable in our hearts. <3

It’s that time of the year again and @dirichardpooleforever pays tribute to the actor who brought Death in Paradise to life the first time it aired five years or so ago. The show has gone through a lot of changes (as television shows are wont to do) but DI Richard Poole’s Death in Paradise will always be closest to my heart. And it’s because of how brilliantly Ben Miller portrayed him: a sort of genius misanthrope with an awkward endearing heart. So I will always be grateful that he took on the role (albeit short and bittersweet) and gave us the best detective inspector in paradise. A long life and fruitful career to you, Mr. Miller! <3
