Black Comix: African American Independent Comics, Art and Culture by Damian Duffy & John Jennings
“The immense popularity of comics and graphic novels cannot be ignored. But in light of the comics boom that has taken place over the past 10 years, the artists, writers and publishers that make up the vibrant African American independent comics community have remained relatively unknown – until now.
Black Comix brings together an unprecedented collection of largely unheard of, and undeniably masterful, comics art while also framing the work of these men and women in a broader historical and cultural context. With a foreword by Keith Knight and over 50 contributors, including Phonzie Davis, Jan-Michael Franklin, Frances Liddell, Kenjji Marshall, Lance Tooks, Rob Stull, Ashley A. Woods and many, more, the cross section of comics genres represented includes manga, superheroes, humor, history, science fiction and fantasy. This book is a must-have for comics readers.”

Psa You never have to “figure out” what your gender, sexuality, romantic orientation, etcetera, are You literally do not have to do that at all. If you want to, go for it. But not knowing? - can be a permanent state - it’s okay to be confused, but not having a way to describe these things is not the same as being confused - it’s not the same as “I don’t like labels” - you can love labels and still not pick any for yourself - you aren’t obligated to describe or share the way you identify with anyone else. You aren’t obliged to make your existence easier to process. - I will personally bite everyone who says “you’ll work it out one day” to you unprompted - your identity isn’t a puzzle - you aren’t incomplete - you don’t have to waste your energy thinking about it if you don’t want to

These Black Trans Couples’ Stories Tug At Our Heartstrings
The couples speak to the daily experience of living at the crossroads of being black and identifying as LGBT. Together or separate, these two groups carry the burden of societal implications that stem from ignorance and assumptions. Milan shares that his mother was fearful that he would not find love – a common concern among loved ones of those in the trans community, he said.
Watch the full video and you’ll really believe in true love after hearing from these black trans couples.

i saw this on imgur and well, even if something like this is going around on tumblr already it is important.
Edit: Apparently I’ve been informed and did some searching around, citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, limes) are toxic for dogs/animals. Please don’t feed your pets citrus fruits!

#Blackout Trans Pioneer: Marsha P. Johnson
An influential transgender gay rights activist (1944 – 1992). One of my eternal sheroes. She played a major role in the “Gay” Rights Movement early on and was highly involved with the Stonewall Riots. For decades her work has been talked over and erased, but she lives on in many a young queer heart! <3
Read more about her here.
