ever since I’ve moved back in with my parents, it’s been really tough after living on my own for 6 years. it’s far from “thriving” as I would say, but there are many things I’ve been grateful for since coming back. one of those things being getting to spend quality time with the littlest who I haven’t really seen since leaving my parents’ house. i wouldn’t come home on the holidays, heck i wouldn’t come home at all because being with my parents was too painful, and as a result i missed so much of her growth. right now it feels like I’m making up for lost time, and i never realized how selfish i was, leaving her behind to deal with everything in this household herself. if I’m overly emotional about everything, she’s on the complete opposite spectrum of emotionally unattached to everything. it’s been months since I’ve come home and i think I’m starting to see some of those walls come down with her, and I’m so incredibly happy and grateful for this time. she once told me that she wasn’t sure if we were ever going to be able to be close because of our 11 year age gap, but i was determined not to let that define us.
a few days ago, we were having a cuddle session and she asked me “why am i the only one you like to cuddle with?” and i told her “because you’re my baby” and she started laughing. i asked her what was so funny and she told me “i already knew the answer, i just wanted to hear you say it.” finally i asked her why she asked then and she replied “it makes me feel special.”
i want to remember these moments forever.
