As many of you know, this blog was inspired by the @pedroscouts blog. I know several Scouts here are also active in the Pedro fandom. If any of you have felt stressed or less excited for fandom shenanigans because of what's been happening, I completely understand.

This is a time to focus on the good parts of fandom communities. I know @millersflowermarket and @positivelypedro are doing great jobs of fueling positivity. I'm 100% sure this will all blow over and happy fandom shenanigans will prevail.

I'm gonna post some fun polls over the weekend to try and add to the fun and positivity because we need it right now.

I was admittedly dragged into this fandom kicking and screaming (I wasn't ready to leave the previous hyperfixation 😂) and sometimes I still feel like a bit of an outsider due to some shyness and a lack of communication skills at times, but when I have dared to put myself out there the folks in this fandom have been so kind and welcoming. So this is a shoutout to everyone who has ever taken steps to make this a kinder corner of the web (and of course to all my fellow creative people putting themselves out there, hearts on sleeves all strung right out on display in fiction for the world to see)

I have been through a lot in my life. Like, a LOT. I feel like my development as a person was put on hold until my mid thirties. The beautiful people in our happy Pedro fandom have had such a positive impact on me. I've been able to explore so much of who I am through other writers and artist being comfortable with sharing who they are. I've made so many wonderful friends. Thank you for keeping this place positive.😁

I unfortunately went through a pregnancy loss last year, and I still tear up when I think about the way this community banded around me and supported me. Not just my friends, but lovely people who I haven’t interacted with, reached out to share their stories and their strength with me. It got me through an absolutely devastating time and helped me pick up the pieces.

I am forever grateful to this fandom and the beautiful people in it ❤️

Here is my hot take. The bones of this fandom are made of love. The spine of this fandom? Pure love. For one Pedro Pascal.

We've built on rock, not sand. These weirdos who have made their entire personalities hating on other fans and fic writers? They'll fizzle out, or grow up or burn out. They are mayflies to our mountains. Don't pay them any mind.

This fandom has helped me with my grief. I lost my mother unexpectedly- she was only 61 years old and my very best friend. About 7 months after her passing, I watched TLOU in its original airing and immediately fell in love with the story but most of all, I fell in love with the old man we all adore. I then started watching everything Pedro was in and got such comfort from the love he radiated. I stumbled onto Tumblr through an instagram post. I won’t lie- I was 35 and had no idea about fan fiction! But I immediately found the stories to be such a great escape. And then I found such beautiful stories that spoke to me about humanity and pain and love. And of course I found the gorgeous love stories and the witty retellings, and the elaborate AUs. The smut helped me reconnect to my body and reminded me of the importance of finding pleasure and allowing myself to indulge despite feeling grief. The writers being harassed and bullied helped to save me. They helped to heal me. My grief will always be with me, but it is no exaggeration to say that the Pedro fanfiction girlies (gn) reminded me that life is worth living- and they did that for free and without knowing anything about me or that I was in pain. Their art gave me life back. I’m forever grateful for it.

When I was but a lil' baby Pedro fan, I first found fandom on Reddit, which is a scary thing, right? Because REDDIT. But the Pedro sub there at the time was run by the most incredible person (she knows who she is and I'm not gonna tag her because some redditors are...weird). She had such clear boundaries around privacy and consent, and I felt like I was trained on how to be a chill, respectful fan there. None of us are perfect fans or figure everything out the right way immediately, but I'm really glad that her level-headed and calm approach to being a fan without crossing boundaries was my first exposure.

i think what most people fail to understand is that curating your online experience doesn't just mean blocking and filtering the things you don't like or don't want to see but that it also (and maybe more importantly) means engaging with the things you do like and want to see. if someone creates something that makes your experience better, let them know! tell them! reblog their things! you get to see/share more of what you like and they get to know that someone out there appreciates their work it's a win-win situation for everyone involved

Joining this fandom during the pandemic saved my sanity. The people here nurtured my writing and my soul through some deeply difficult times. I met people whom I hope will be lifelong friends and I simply don't know what I would have done without them. The good vibes in this fandom far outshine the bad for me. I've pondered to myself why I like Pedro; he's handsome and charming, but so are three guys in my train car on the subway, and maybe even more handsome.

I have answered that I admire his willingness to be vulnerable. His family experienced trauma from the Pinochet regime that is familiar to me, and my family refuses to talk about it. How can you heal generational trauma that isn't acknowledged?

He acknowledges it, he talks about how it affected him and his family, and he doesn't avoid his history.

I admire that about him and I take comfort knowing I am not alone in trying to break this particular generational trauma.

I think we approached it very differently; he becomes someone else, and I stay quiet in my room as often as possible. But I recognize his coping strategy and struggles with interpersonal relationships. It's very common for people who are in our shoes.

He makes me believe we can overcome this trauma, and I love him for that.

Also, he's very handsome and charming!
