@rainbowrowell Somehow, I just now figured out what you were doing with Candle in the Wind in the series. (Feeling a bit silly about this. I got so caught up in singing along to Elton John that I forgot nuance and themes existed I guess.) What with Natasha and Lucy being the women who were taken too soon, Natasha’s scarf flying in the wind, Lucy LITERALLY being a ghost swept by the wind, Natasha “burning out” (again, literally), and Lucy being a flickering candle in the last book. (Again HOW did I miss this I read these books like they’re the Bible.)

Anyway, all this being said, was this candle in the wind through-line part of why you decided to name Anyway the Wind Blows the way you did? Or was it mainly in regards to Simon’s journey?

That sentance in AWTWB where Baz says "He grins and holds out a live rat like a single stemmed rose."

Everyone loves that line--it's so funny and vivid and surprising and right on key. But I also just thought about how *Baz* is saying this and, AND ... he's finally understood how Simon is showing his love! He finally sees that offering a rat is romantic. For Simon, food is love, taking care of people is love, making sure Baz eats and drinks is love. And this scene comes right after Simon has explained "I've killed so many things for you." Now Baz ia finally understanding (and believing!) Simon's love and translating it into his own language. Rats are roses. 🌹🐁

They are not just learning how to talk to each other, they are also learning how to understand.

ok time to say something controversial and tag it with everything in hopes of some form of fandom engagement

I think ppl think what we’re saying is that the series is perfect and flawless and every possible criticism were vetoing - but the truth is these critiques are so flimsy and poorly thought out and in fact reveal that the makers and perpetuators of these posts are entirely missing the main content of the series bc they stubbornly wanna read it as if it’s Harry Potter but gay. These books are SBOUT the emotional journey of the characters! Not the plot points - which are symbolic of the internal/emotional journey in any series anyway!
