Every time I choose a new blorbo, I hear my dad’s voice from ten years ago while we were watching Avengers 2012 saying “what is it with you and the bad guys?”

Part of it is yes, there are limited hyperlanes out of a given area of space. This isn’t really explained in the cartoons, but plays a large role in the Thrawn novels. If you’d like to get a really good idea of how space battles can be written and how they work in universe, I can’t recommend the Thrawn novels enough. Another part is that when this happens, they’re usually defending a fixed spot on the planet. Lastly, it’s been shown in the cartoons and in the books that it’s EXTREMELY easy and quick for a ship to move from place to place within a planet’s orbit. Think about how short land distances seem in planes, and then think about how much faster an ISD is than a plane, and it makes a bit more sense.

There is also the fact that continuously running from the blockades doesn’t solve much, and turns the Rebellion away from resistance and into survival mode.

One of the things that I don't understand in Star Wars is the way they handle blockades. Like in s3 of Rebels when Thrawn attacks Atollon

I've never understood why they don't just go around the planet??? Like, there's no imperials there???

Like, surely they all would've been able to escape that way? There's no way that there's only one hyperspace lane to get off planet, and it's not like their goal was to travel directly to Yavin IV either. They could also travel to the other side on the surface of the planet too if space travel isn't an option.

Am I just dumb? Is it explained why they can't do that and I'm just an idiot?
