Hey Montreal: January 7, 2017, is your last chance to see Poster Boys at Never Apart's open house/finissage (at least in its current incarnation, sharing a bedroom-space with the installation Idol Worship and Amy Didemus’ video work).
Where and how will it live next? Will it fade away, age gracefully, have a comeback that proves real crushes never die? We’ll see! In the meantime, please enjoy this wholesome Xmas card from all of us (i.e. Eve trying out iMovie for the first time).
Also, there are a few (scented) zines and totes left – DM if you want to buy!
Check out some beautiful documentation of the Poster Boys Show (including the installation pictured, Idol Worship) by photographer and co-creator Richmond Lam – up now on his personal site. [Richmond Lam]
The new space for Poster Boys at Never Apart gallery is both an extension of the original show and a distillation. Whereas the portraits and the shrine used to be in separate areas -- one sophisticated, ideal for artsy adult mingling; the other a tad claustrophobic, loud, covered in pink -- now they're mixed together in one intense installation that's a tribute to teen idols, empathy and DIY beauty (with okay maybe a nod to Barbara Kruger in there with the reused vinyl).
Big news: I just started figuring out Snapchat. Oh, but also: Poster Boys will be up for three more months starting in July -- still upstairs at Montreal's Never Apart but all in one room, along with the installation Idol Worship and video work Boys Will Be Boys (for maximum teen bedroom frenzy feelings).
Poster Boys artists Richmond Lam and Eve Thomas in conversation with Michael Venus at Never Apart gallery in Montreal. Couldn’t cover everything in this short session, but you’ll get a bit of a better idea of how the show came together and the themes at play. And, of course, our #process because of course.
Make-up & hair & model Jessica Danielle Cohen as @wilwheaton. No one believed he looked just like that until I pulled up that photo of him with the watches. [Poster Boys]
One of the best parts of the Poster Boys vernissage was seeing the models next to their boys (like Dispatch Coffee founder Chrissy Durcak and a young, pleading Joseph Gordon-Levitt).
Tons of beautiful photos up now from the Never Apart spring show vernissage. [Never Apart]
A note about the quote in this incredible photo of Poster Boys photographer Richmond Lam and production designer Frederique Gagnon (thankyoulauramulvey), which also appears in the Poster Boys zine. It’s from Transparent creator Jill Soloway. I (Eve) read it in an interview while the project was already in progress and have been considering it ever since.
Scene from the Poster Boys vernissage at Never Apart in Montreal. It was a blast, it was a blur, it was an amazing opening night packed with pretty, sweaty people. On at the gallery until May 28. Check out their site for opening hours and details. [Never Apart]
