I’m going to send my lazy doodles here (everything is illegible so I will caption it)

John C. Calhoun: States’ rights!
Andrew Jackson (with a cup of… something?): The Union… it must be preserved.

John Quincy Adams: erm ackshually there wasn’t a Corrupt Bargain

John Quincy Adams: Slavery is bad.
John Tyler: So is losing profits!
(This is a joke.)

James K. Polk, holding a coffee and clipboard: I’m gonna annex… gay sex…
Caption: hasn’t slept in 72 hours <3

Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren
Caption (cut off): AND ONE || I love youuuu ~ to the end
This is not a ship, those were just song lyrics I was thinking about.

Trying to figure out Andrew Jackson.
Anyway @presidenttyler you’re included here

James Garfield and Chester Arthur have always been in the top tier of Presidents Who I Am Most Fascinated By, so I've been all-in on Netflix's upcoming limited series about President Garfield's assassination, Arthur's succession, and the insanity of Charles Guiteau's trial -- Death By Lightning -- since the moment it was announced. Not only is it a series about one of the crazier and often-overlooked chapters in American history and full of interesting (real) characters, but those characters are being played by some of my favorite actors: Michael Shannon, Betty Gilpin, Matthew Mcfadyen, Bradley Whitford, Nick Offerman, and more! Maybe I'm exaggerating, but this series might be the only good thing that's happened to America in the past ten years.
But I just want everybody to be prepared because we're finally getting a show where Roscoe Conkling appears to be a major character (and is being played by the brilliant Shea Whigham) and if you don't know anything about Roscoe Conkling, you are going to be obsessed with him. I don't want to spoil anything for you (although Garfield dies, sorry) but the series could easily be about just Conkling on his own and be wildly entertaining. And since there's no way they'll be able to include everything about him, here are a few resources that shed a little bit of light on the legendary "Lord Roscoe":
•The Remarkable Roscoe, Part I, The Remarkable Roscoe, Part II, and The Remarkable Roscoe, Part III, via the James A. Garfield National Historic Site. •Roscoe Conkling (1829-1888) via the Lehrman Institute's Mr. Lincoln and New York website. •Kate Chase Sprague and Roscoe Conkling: Beauty and the Boss via Feather Schwartz Foster's Presidential history blog. •The Strutting Senator: Roscoe Conkling, via the Mad Politics blog. •The Lordly Roscoe Conkling by Scott S. Greenberger via The History Reader newsletter.

[Death By Lightning is coming to Netflix on November 6th!]

dear president Tyler,
i hope this message finds you well. i appreciate seeing your posts on my feed when I'm feeling down, as they lighten my woes a bit.
I've come to ask for your help. I have recently gained an interest in history, and you are my Most Trusted History Source™. I'm looking for any media recommendations (tv, books, websites, videos, etc) regarding American history, regarding any given point in American history. If you are knowledgeable about European history, I would appreciate recommendations for that as well. I believe I'd find interest in any wars involving America, American presidents, or the Revolution.
If you could provide any names of resources that you enjoy, please let me know. I hope you are well, President.
Your loyal subject,
Sheree aka Alice.
dear alice, first of all i love and miss you. why won't you come home. you literally left me here with like 30 children.
second of all as for resources, history is a very wide subject and there is so much to be seen... if you're in college go to your college library and go to the presidents section. almost all libraries will have presidents biographies in order of president. if you have a favorite president, you can start there and get multiple perspectives on him even. as for broader history, finding one book you love and going to the end and seeing what sources the author used is very good, it can create a sort of tree of books to read.
some of my favorite history books personally - i love the biography of president garfield by allan peskin if you're into gilded age politics. destiny of the republic is a great lighter read regarding garfield's assassination (and they're making a show about it) field of blood by joanne freeman is great for highly contentious antebellum politics... worst journey in the world is a slay book about antarctic exploration if you feel like a completely different topic. these are some of my favorite books, period, but if you want like a full list of good books by subject (from my subjective opinion), feel free to dm and request... it's going to be mostly focused on my personal interests (antebellum, gilded age and polar) because i mostly read things that fulfill my interests.
there are some cool websites too. i love lincolnconspirators.com for lincoln assassination, and bestpresidentialbios.com for reviews of presidential biographies
finally if you like gilded age, go on internet archive and look for issues of puck magazine. i love puck
