The subject of Frank was becoming more and more annoying, just as quickly as it had been brought up. With the older man dealt with, Nathan didn’t give a flying fuck about what the future held for Frank or what he was going through right now. All that mattered to him was that there was no way the events that occurred between Katherine and Frank could repeat, now that he was back in town and could officially put a stop to it, once and for all. But the fact that Katherine seemed to be still so hung up on the guy caused that burning jealousy to make a comeback with every concerned comment she made in an attempt to piece together the few clues she had. “Well, now that he’s fucked off without a trace, you really won’t ever be talking to him again, huh?” He finally snapped, taking a moment from his hot meal to shoot his own glare across the table, right back at Katherine. That seemed to be the end of the conversation, as nothing else was said between the two of them, and Nathan went back to his meal, more than happy to leave it at that. It wasn’t until she abruptly gathered her things and stood up from the booth to leave that his jealousy and anger subdued any sort of calmness that may have started to root itself in his mind. Feeling the few stares at his table, Nathan lifted his gaze, only to meet Joyce’s -- out of everyone else in the room. After staring at her for a moment as he finished chewing and swallowing the bite of food in his mouth, he tore the napkin from his lap and stood up from the booth, simultaneously pulling out his wallet from his back pocket to leave a few bills on the table, which was more than enough to pay for both his and Katherine’s meals, before he stormed out of the diner.
“Katherine!” Unlike the diner, the anger in his voice carried much louder outside once his icy glare landed on the girl, making a beeline over the pavement as he briskly approached her. “What the fuck are you doing?! Gimme that fuckin’ thing--” he basically growled once he reached her, aggressively snatching the phone out of her hands to see what she was doing. When he saw Frank’s name on the screen along with multiple unanswered calls and texts to him from Katherine, Nate’s blood was practically boiling beneath his skin and, without a second thought, he used all his strength and might to hurl her phone out over the parking lot, disappearing behind the building wrapping around the parking lot before he turned on Katherine. “I shoulda fucking killed that scuzzy son of a bitch when I had the chance! I shoulda done it. I shouldn’t have listened to you, you’re a fucking liar just like everybody else!” His eyes were wild with emotion, mainly reflecting the betrayal and uncontrollable anger he was feeling, but he couldn’t just stand around there on the sidewalk with Katherine -- in public -- while he had the urge to break everything he set his sights on, but that didn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t done talking. “You wanna know what happened to Frank? Huh? Fine. The cops raided his fucking trailer today. So, he’s probably getting fucked up the ass behind bars, as we speak. But the drug addicted fuckers in Arcadia Bay don’t have to worry -- I already have a new supplier lined up.”
003
Katherine felt her body tensing with both anger and real, honest-to-god fear. The idea that he’d gotten him arrested crossed her mind, but she didn’t dwell on it, because what she was more scared of was the thought that maybe Nate had only taken the gun out of Frank’s mouth last night just to appease her, and had never really had any intentions of letting him live. The way he unfolded his napkin so leisurely and began cutting into his sausage made her blood boil. “Chloe went to pick up and said he’s gone,” she bit out, watching him with a stare so intent she thought lasers might shoot out of her eyes any moment. “Pompidou is still there. Frank doesn’t go anywhere without that dog.” She paused, giving Nate a chance to say something, anything, to affirm or deny it (the latter of which she was hoping for, although she clung to that hope feebly. This was Nate’s doing, she knew it). And then he did deny it, and Katherine was brought up short. “Have I talked to him?” she repeated incredulously. “Obviously not, or I wouldn’t be asking you where he is.” She hated that for as much as she really didn’t care about anyone else, Nate was even more ruthless than she was. She didn’t know why he wasn’t owning up to having something to do with Frank’s disappearance, just that he was enjoying how flustered she was becoming. “I told you I wouldn’t talk to him anymore,” she said, her voice rising, soup cooling off to the side. “Why couldn’t you just leave him alone, Nate?” That smug look on his face was almost too much for her, and despite how much she loved him, she knew that in a second she would reach across the table and slap him in the face out of frustration. That would end badly not only because she knew she would eventually feel guilty after her temper had cooled, but also because Nate was liable to lash out violently if she did so. She glared at him a moment longer before grabbing her purse and sliding out of the booth. She folded her coat around her and marched out of the diner in a flurry of emotion, something which was incredibly rare for her, considering her emotions were generally subdued. It was this back-and-forth between Nathan and Frank that was driving her mad–she knew she couldn’t talk to him anymore despite how much she wanted to, but she could at least live with that. Knowing, however, that Nathan had gone behind her back and done something to him anyway? It made her feel sick. With angry tears in her eyes that she absolutely refused to let spill over her cheeks, she pulled her phone out again and began trying to contact Frank. Half her mind was focused on that, and half was wondering if Nate would come after her, well aware that a majority wanted him to do so, and to force her to stop what she was doing.

The playful smirk on his lips quickly dropped to form a frown when Katherine, again, dropped her attention from him to focus on her phone, this time answering a call while they were in the midst of a conversation. Of course, this annoyed Nathan to the point where he physically detached himself from her, pulling his hand from her thigh as he leaned back to slouch against the back of the booth. His jaw was clenched tight when he realized it was Chloe she was apparently prioritizing over him, and if she hadn’t ended the call just as quickly as she’d answered it, Nathan probably grabbed it from her, spat out the harsh reality to the blue-haired dyke, and then hung up on her. However, he noticed Katherine’s mood had changed drastically, and could practically feel the fumes radiating off of her skin. When Joyce came over, he flashed her a practiced smile, and then leaned forward a little bit to inspect his plate of food while listening to Katherine suddenly start questioning him about Frank. Despite his plan to keep his intentions for Frank from her, Nathan knew this conversation was bound to come up at some point, especially when she realized Frank was gone. “I didn’t do anything,” he gave a brief shrug of his shoulder as he shook his head, completely disinterested in the conversation as he unfolded his napkin and spread it across his lap before he picked up his fork and knife. “And I dunno where he is. Haven’t really been speaking to that waste of space, lately.” He spoke in a nonchalant manner as he cut off a piece of sausage and delivered it to his mouth, only then lifting his gaze to meet Katherine’s glare, a small smile forming along his lips before he began to chew. “Why? Have you?”
003
Nate’s subtextual comment about Frank made her give him a sharp look, but she didn’t say anything. She was almost positive he’d meant something by it, but out of both a sense of foreboding and an unwillingness to know what he was talking about, she moved past the subject without a word. She thought it most likely he was giving himself an illusion of control by telling himself he wouldn’t let her buy from Frank anymore, which was fine, since she knew Nate would find someone else fast, and even if he didn’t, it wasn’t as though she couldn’t sneak over to Frank’s RV one night to pick something up. She was absolutely resolute about not letting anything get emotional or sexual with him again, not because she didn’t want it–which a small part of her still did–but because it wasn’t worth losing more of Nathan’s trust if (when) he found out. She loved Nathan. It was just that she loved attention as much as she loved him. And attention from men so much older than her–like Jefferson and Frank–was like a drug. Their greediness for her youth turned her on. With Nathan, it was his bloodlust that did it for her. “Better watch out she doesn’t spit in your food, honey,” Katherine said after Joyce had walked away, both amused and unimpressed by his intentional slip-up of her surname. “It’s not her fault I fucked her daughter.” She said this with a smug smile intended to get under Nathan’s skin. However, the smile slipped quickly when he mentioned Victoria. She supposed bringing up the Vortex Club and that leech Courtney hadn’t been the best way to avoid the topic, but she was annoyed regardless. Slumping a little in her seat with a roll of her dark eyes, she looked away toward the window. As soon as she felt his hand on her thigh, however, a small smirk curved her lips, and his pun didn’t go unnoticed by her. She laughed softly and slipped her hand under the table to cover his. “You know I–” But whatever it was she was going to say went unsaid, because at that moment her phone started vibrating again, this time with a call. From Chloe. “Hold on,” she said impatiently, answering the call and lifting the phone to her ear. “Chloe, seriously, I’ll call you later when I’m–” She stopped talking when Chloe cut her off, rambling on about how she was picking something up from Frank but he wasn’t there, just the dog, and did Katherine know where he was, because she really needed some fucking pot. Katherine’s throat tightened and she looked at Nathan with her jaw set and her shoulders suddenly tense. “I’ll call you back,” she said, and ended the call, placing the phone back down on the table. Joyce came by with their food, but Katherine only had eyes for Nathan, her stare burning a hole in his skull. Joyce must have sensed the sudden tension, because she didn’t even stick around to refill their mugs, which were almost empty. “What’d you do?” she said softly, her voice tight. “Where’s Frank, Nate?”

The reaction he pulled out of her was exactly what he’d wanted, but the authority in her tone didn’t do anything to smooth over his mood, and it was shown in the next mix of words he spat out. “Don’t fuckin’ tell me how to act.” Despite the slight raise in his voice, it didn’t catch anyone’s attention around them, considering there were various other conversations going on, droning them out -- luckily for Nate and his short temper. “And I’m not whining. I’m just stating facts, babe.” A sardonic smirk curled the edges of his mouth before it quickly transformed into a small sneer once her attention was taken from him to focus on her phone. There was no doubt that Katherine would be receiving all kinds of attention today, thanks to the previous night and the wounds it left on her arms, so he figured it was just some clueless kid, asking if she was alright, or something in order to seem less nosey and more caring. Lifting his gaze to scan the diner, Nathan took another drink from his mug as he waited as patiently as he could for Katherine’s attention again, until his gaze locked with a cop’s sitting at the diner’s main stretch of table. Slowly lowering his bug back to the table, Nathan cocked his head a little bit, the cop staring back at him for a brief moment before giving a small nod and turning back to his food. This was either meant to be taken as a greeting or some kind of confirmation, and since Nathan wasn’t known to strike up a friendly conversation with just anyone, it had to be the latter of the two. Had Frank already been cuffed and locked behind bars? Or was that just a sign that Arcadia’s police department had received their orders and were in the midst of hatching a plan? Either way, it pleased the troubled teen to know how quickly his father was working to complete Nate’s request.
It was Katherine’s voice that snapped him back into their bubble, icy irises returning to the girl as he registered what she was saying, examining her expression. “Might not have a choice, anyway. For a little while.” This time his smirk was a little more sincere, but knowing, as he took another drink just before Joyce was at their table again to take their order. Nathan waited for Katherine to order before he was putting on a lopsided smile when Joyce’s expectant gaze landed on him. “I’ll have the usual, Mrs. Price. --Sorry. I mean, Mrs. Madsen.” Although his slip up had seemed like an accident on his part, it was all very much intentionally as he studied the change of emotions just her eyes alone gave away. By that, he knew that William was still a bit of a sore subject for Joyce, which he couldn’t understand, considering she remarried and went on about life like she was the happiest she’d ever been. When she finished jotting down his order, Nathan watched her walk away once more, his tongue poking out to smooth over his lips as he looked back to Katherine.
“How should I know? I don’t actually plan anything. That’s what Victoria and her minions are for,” he chuckled a bit at the end of his sentence, giving a weak shrug of his broad shoulders as he pushed himself back from the table to comfortably lean against the back of the booth. “Courtney takes her bitch-work very seriously, you know, when she’s not shoving her nose up Vic’s ass. Somebody has to do. As long as she does it right, I’ll be happy. I don’t want any fuckin’ dildo brains or shit stains at my party.” His lips remained pressed in that familiar, overly-cocky smirk, until Katherine announced that she wasn’t even sure if she was going to attend. Slowly leaning forward again so that his biceps were pressing against the edge of the table, Nathan reached across the space beneath the table to Katherine with one of his hands, rubbing the palm of his hand over her knee to her thigh, a little firmly. “But I want you there. You don’t wanna come for me, Kitty?”
003
Katherine hadn’t expected Nathan to put her idea together with Frank and Mr. Jefferson, but obviously he had, and she realized it had been stupid to think he wouldn’t. He was clearly still sore about the revelations she’d given him last night, and she was only glad now that she hadn’t told him about the photo shoots she’d done, because that would have sent him over the edge to think that she was suggesting they do something she’d done with Jefferson. “Don’t be a prick,” she said tightly, sliding the mug closer to her chest along the table and straightening her back, irrationally irritated by Nate’s not-so-subtle dig. “It would be interesting, you’re just being intentionally belligerent. Stop whining, Nate.” Her phone vibrated and she looked away from Nathan to pull it out of the pocket of her sweater, sighing when she saw Chloe’s name and knew without looking that it would be about what had happened last night. Max had probably texted her after she’d seen Katherine and Nate leaving the school. She opened the texts to see that she was right, but locked the phone again anyway and set it down on the table, deciding to answer that later. “I still think we should do a shoot, though,” she said after a moment of silence, looking up at him again and meeting his eyes. “Sober if that makes you feel better.” Her phone buzzed again. She ignored it.
Joyce came back, and although Katherine hadn’t looked at the menu, she ordered her go-to bowl of French Onion soup, which Joyce wrote down on a notepad with a little nod. She would have loved to get inside the woman’s mind, to know exactly what she was thinking, but one thing about Joyce Katherine had no choice but to respect was her unreadable face, her emotions always seemingly at bay. It was probably a habit, she mused, watching the older woman as she took Nathan’s order. In a small town like Arcadia Bay, where everyone knew everyone else’s business (and a family like the Prescotts exploited those who opposed them), especially with a dead husband and a daughter like Chloe, keeping your secrets hidden was the only way to live your life. Not to mention her decision to start dating the head of Blackwell Security. When she walked away again, Katherine lost her train of thought and started playing with a packet of sugar which she eventually dumped into her coffee and started swirling around with a spoon.
“How’s your prep fest Halloween party coming along?” she asked, settling back against the booth and watching Nathan’s face to see if he’d allow the change of subject. “Those stupid flyers are all over the school. Courtney’s been sitting at her stupid table in the middle of the school with her VIP list spread out like she’s doing preparations for a fucking presidential gala.” She rolled her eyes and lifted the mug to her lips, relishing the way the hot liquid felt sliding down her throat, closing her eyes briefly. “I haven’t decided yet if I’m gonna go.”

Gossip was something that Nathan thrived off of on a daily basis. He needed to know what was going on around his school, and his town, at all times so he wasn’t caught by surprise with anything -- that was something he absolutely hated. So when Katherine filled him in about Dana’s new sidepiece, his lips curved up slightly and he shook his head. “They need to learn how to hide things better if they actually want to keep-- whatever the fuck they have going on, a secret,” he gave a weak shrug of his broad shoulders, an amused huff of air then coming from his nose before he added, “And that fucking sewer rat, Justin, doesn’t hide rejection very well.” And just as soon as it started, the conversation about their fellow Blackwell classmates ended, which didn’t bother Nathan in the slightest. He usually got more than his fill with Victoria when it came to gossip, so he never felt the need to press anything with Katherine, just enjoyed the bit of interest she showed from time to time, and humoured him. When the bus finally pulled up in front of them, he took a step forward but then moved beside the door, ushering Katherine to the first step before he followed in after her. As much as he liked cruising around in his truck, Nathan didn’t mind the bus. It was usually always a quiet ride, besides the odd creaky squeak from the bus, and there was no denying how beautifully quaint Arcadia Bay was while he stared out the window next to Katherine.
Sucking in a deep breath of the ocean air when the stepped off of the bus, Nathan eyed Two Whales, already noting how packed the diner seemed to be by just looking in through the various windows wrapped around the building. However, it was his favourite place to eat and he wasn’t about to give up the meal he’d been looking forward to for a bunch of greasy truckers and stinky fishermen. So, with a purpose in his step, Nathan lead the way into the diner, ignoring the immediate stares that landed on them as he took Katherine to a booth near the backend of the diner; his booth. Once the were settled on either side, he hardly acknowledged Joyce as she filled their cups with coffee, his sights already set on the menu, scanning over the options he’d seen so many times already. His gaze only lifted to watch the older woman walk away when Katherine dismissed her, sizing her up for a brief moment before his attention returned to the menu. Although he never really spoke of much with Joyce, he admired her, in a sense. Not only because she cooked up his favourite food in all of Arcadia Bay, but also because she kept to her own business; she didn’t go around asking questions and hunting for something she shouldn’t be concerned about. Unlike her dyke daughter.
His thoughts were interrupted, though, when Katherine spoke up, and he lifted his gaze to focus on her as he listened. Straightening his posture a bit, so he was no longer leaning down on the table with his arms, Nathan took hold of his mug, lifting it to his lips and sipping down the coffee Joyce had just poured for them. It was partially because he wanted to drink it, but also partially because he wanted to hide the small frown that had found its way along his lips. Her texts were still fresh in his mind, mainly because he privately read over them again to hold onto that anger and drive that was going to inspire him to get back at these people who tried to take Katherine away from him. Jefferson was nearing the top of his list, now that Frank was going to be dealt with and Logan seemed to tuck his tail between his legs. So when she brought up the fact that he could drug her, he immediately thought of how both older men had done the exact same, and it caused his stomach to twist in a mixture of disgust and jealousy. “I can get the frame that I want without making you take shit like that,” he said as he set his mug back down on the table, and then closed his menu before he crossed his arms on the table, leaning slightly forward again against them. “Unless that’s something you’re used to doing now. Then you can take whatever the fuck you want.”
003
Something had transpired while she’d been talking to Mr. Jefferson–that much Katherine could tell by the set of Nathan’s shoulders and the rigidity of his jaw. She only hoped it hadn’t been anything too bad. Nathan had a tendency to get angry very quickly, and while it was always hot watching him get his rage on, after last night, she found herself in the mood for a more docile Nate. His invite to the Two Whales assured her that whatever it was hadn’t been bad enough to set off his temper, and with a bright grin she leaned up on her toes to press a kiss to his cheek, her lips still tingling from his heated kiss a moment ago. “Love to,” she said, and grabbed his hand. Her next class was math, and she definitely had no problem skipping it. Their fingers tangled as they walked toward the school’s entrance, passing, most notably, Max, who was skulking off to the side with her earbuds in, watching everyone as though she was so much more insightful than them. For just a second, their eyes met, Katherine watching her curiously, in response to which she received a genuinely surprised look from Max. The moment was over just as quickly and soon she and Nathan were passing Zachary and Juliet, canoodling near the doors, and out onto the steps. “Nauseating,” Katherine commented as they headed toward the bus stop, referring to Zachary and Juliet. “Did you know Dana’s fucking that grease monkey Trevor?” She shuddered at the thought. “Not only is he not good-looking, but it’s impossible to hold a conversation with him because he’s perpetually stoned. Such a waste.” She shook her head, but as gossip had never held Katherine’s attention very long–since it didn’t revolve around her–she dropped the subject by the time they stepped onto the bus.
When they got to the Two Whales, it was packed with the lunch crowd, mostly truckers and fisherman and a few randoms thrown in that Katherine didn’t recognize from town. She saw Joyce eye them as they walked in, but she didn’t say anything, only came over once they’d taken a seat at  a booth near the back and filled their mugs with coffee. “Know what you want?” she asked, and for a split second Katherine saw her eyes flicker to her bandaged wrists. She could practically hear Joyce’s thoughts: what do you see in this girl, Chloe, oh what do you see in her? It gave Katherine a vindictive kind of pleasure, particularly with the added drama of having Nathan here with her when they were quite clearly ditching school. That’s right, bitch, she thought, I fucked your daughter, what’re you gonna do about it? “Give us a few minutes,” she said instead, and without a word Joyce left to refill other people’s coffee mugs. Katherine settled into her seat and wrapped her hands around her own mug, perfectly content sitting here with Nate. She was glad they’d decided to come here. It was a gorgeous day, crisp but sunny, and autumn was in the air. The last boats of the season were out on the water and Katherine watched them as she sipped her coffee, warmth spreading from her mouth to her chest to her arms, making her fingers tingle pleasantly. “So I was thinking,” she said, finally looking at Nathan, who was perusing the menu. “We should do a photo session tonight, before the cuts heal too much. I could
I could take something, you know, so I’ll be
looser.” She’d gotten the idea from Jefferson, of course, but that didn’t make it any less brilliant. However, where Jefferson had given her sedatives in order to keep her from moving around, she was thinking more along the lines of “ecstasy,” she said, and her grin was something that would have made most people uncomfortable. “You can shoot me while I’m rolling, without the bandages. What do you think?”

Either one of the girls in Katherine’s dorm that night hadn’t kept the explosive scene to themselves, or an accidental spectator spread the word. Whatever source of the leak, someone ran their mouth about Nathan’s outburst and the reason for Katherine’s self-harm. Although he appreciated the fear factor, causing Blackwell students to part like the red sea even more quickly when he walked through the halls that day, he didn’t want the wrong people hearing about what had happened -- especially his father. However, Nathan didn’t show any sort of discomfort or paranoia he may have been feeling. No fucking way. In stead, he walked with his nose held up high, the same stone cold expression hardening his chiselled features when he caught anyone staring at him. There were many students at the bottom of the social hierarchy that he could easily target, such as that new bitch, Max Caulfield. But it was no surprise when he chose none other than Logan Robertson to ram with his shoulder as he walked by, a chilling smirk tugging up the corners of his mouth as he locked his icy gaze with Logan’s angered confusion, which caused the jock not to utter a single word.
The excitement seemed to dull once he was in class, his attention consumed by Jefferson’s work and Victoria’s snide remarks, which were mainly directed at Max and Kate. Of course, he was still very much aware of Katherine sitting beside him, his arm draped over the back of her chair while he listened to Jefferson’s historic lesson as Kat busied herself with drawing, obviously not as interested in the photography class. When the bell rang to announce the change of classes, Nathan gathered his textbook and photo album, shoving them into his bag before he stood up. An uneasy feeling settled in the pit of his stomach when Jefferson asked for Katherine to stay behind, which was the initial reason why Nate hesitated, until the older man hit him with authority and a scowl took over before he left the classroom. Although he wasn’t acting out on it, he remembered the list of people Katherine had hooked up with very clearly while he was gone. The special attention Jefferson seemed to give to his female students had always sparked an overwhelming sense of curiosity and disgust in Nathan, but knowing that he had done exactly what Frank had? It didn’t make him want to leave Katherine’s side during the whole period. Luckily -- or not so luckily -- his thoughts were interrupted when his phone started ringing in his pocket, which he quickly snatched up, only to feel another sense of dread wash over him when he saw who it was. Swiping the green answer button, he lifted the phone to his ear.
“I’m heading to class.” Was Nathan’s greeting to his father, which he barely got out before the shouting started on the other end of the line. The last thing he wanted to happen, fucking happened -- his dad obviously caught wind of what went down the previous night. “You don’t-- Would you let me explain?!” The rage was boiling in the pit of his stomach, venom seeping into his tone of voice, which attracted a few stares from students passing by. Turning his shoulder to them, Nathan lowered his voice for only his dad to hear. “Y’know that piece of Arcadia trash -- Frank Bowers? You already know about his business, but here’s something you didn’t know: he drugged and raped a sixteen year old Blackwell student. Not just any student, dad, somebody.. important. So I want his ungrateful ass behind bars. Today. I don’t care how it’s done. And then I’ll be better. I promise.” With that said, and a couple of sighs and a bit more scolding from his dad, Nathan was told he would get what he requested, on the condition that he stopped embarrassing the Prescott family name. This, of course, reignited the flame in his stomach and he immediately hung up on the older Prescott, on the verge of throwing his phone across the hall before he noticed Katherine finally stepping out of Jefferson’s classroom. After shoving the phone back into his pocket, Nathan immediately approached Katherine, ready to step back into the classroom and release his anger on the teacher, until he felt the soft touch of her hand on his cheek.
“Well, he needs to mind his own fucking business,” was all Nathan said as he stared in through the windowpane of the classroom door at Jefferson for a moment, chiselled jaw clenched tightly. When the photography teacher finally looked up from his desk to meet the glare, Nate’s expression sobered a bit, a hint of a smirk crossing his lips as he finally met Katherine’s gaze with his own and, without warning, leaned in to capture her lips in a slow, deliberate kiss. To purposely rub it in further, he even caught her bottom lip between his teeth and gave it a gentle tug before releasing it again. It was obvious that Nathan was a very possessive and jealous person, he always had been, but it worsened when he met Katherine, and he wasn’t ashamed to show anyone, anytime, that she belonged to him, no matter what their relationship status may be. “Since I don’t give a fuck about next period, I’m going to Two Whales. Comin’ with me?” A more flirtatious vibe joined his natural dominance as he murmured the question close to Katherine’s lips.
003
Katherine was fully aware of the attention she was receiving the next day at school, and she preened under it. Nobody had actually approached her about it, but she felt their stares, and she consistently caught them looking at her wrists. They thought she was crazy. And that was okay–they’d always thought she was crazy. She thought it the height of amusement these people were so intimidated by her, a majority of which were actually older than her. She knew perfectly well that at least half the reason she held such a status was due to her very public relationship with Nate, but that left fifty percent credit to her, and she was proud of it indeed. They seemed to realize that slitting her wrists had been not a suicide attempt, but rather a spectacle with the sole purpose of gaining attention. Nor was she pretending it to be anything else. The common consensus throughout the school was that Nathan Prescott had snapped last night, and this had somehow resulted in Katherine taking a razor to her wrists to get back at him (she didn’t bother correcting this when she heard it in the hallways, thinking that a razor sounded much more serious than a broken Manson CD). This story seemed to confirm their status as the “crazy couple” on campus, and Katherine liked that just fine.
Mr. Jefferson’s class was fourth period, and although Nathan generally held interest due to his obsession with photography, Katherine had a tendency to space out and start drawing. When the period was over and she was leaving, Mr. Jefferson stopped her, and with a look to quell Nathan’s forthcoming outburst, she stayed behind, curious about what Mr. Jefferson had to say, and if it had anything to do with the rumors. “Nathan,” the teacher said, giving him a look that meant clear out, I’m talking to Katherine alone. When they were finally by themselves in the classroom, Katherine looked to him with a raised eyebrow. She’d never made it very clear to him how disgusted she’d been after that single time they’d fucked, and she now realized that although she’d told Nathan that it had happened, she’d never told him that on more than one occasion, she’d let Mr. Jefferson take pictures of her while she was willfully drugged. “It captures the innocence better,” he’d told her, and since Nathan had been gone and she missed posing for someone with a dark eye, she’d done it. Besides, aside from the very creepy sex they’d had that one time, it hadn’t been too bad. The man was twisted, but he was an amazing photographer. She wondered now whether he was about to ask her to do it again for him.
“Slicing up your perfect skin was a stupid idea, Kitty Kat,” he said, leaning back against his desk and looking at her with a raised eyebrow. Katherine rolled her eyes, having no qualms about acting appropriately in front of Mr. Jefferson anymore. “Did what I wanted it to do,” she answered dryly, folding her arms across her chest. Mr. Jefferson’s eyes narrowed and he glazed his tongue over his bottom lip before saying, “Nathan’s got a great eye, and I’m sure he takes care of your pussy just how you like it.” Pushing off of the desk, he stepped closer to her, and Katherine stood her ground, her face frozen in an expression of mild irritation. “But he can’t do what I do, Katherine.” He lifted a hand and skimmed his fingers across her smooth cheek, making her shoulders tighten. “Let me do another session before you maim yourself further on that child’s account.” Katherine stepped away from him with a shrug of her shoulders, shooting him a dull look. “Why don’t you use Victoria for your perverted little photo ops? She’s wetting the bed for you every night, Mark.” Mr. Jefferson’s lips rose in an amused smirk that gave Katherine the creeps–and that was saying something considering some of the shit she and Nate got up to. “I love it when you say my name,” he said softly, and Katherine retreated further. “I have a class to get to,” she told him. “I’ll
I’ll think about it, okay? I’ll let you know.”
Leaving Mr. Jefferson in his classroom, she let the door close behind her and stepped into the hallway, only to be immediately accosted by Nathan, which made her grin. “Relax,” she laughed, briefly cupping his cheek with one hand before letting it fall. “He just wanted to make sure I was okay ‘cause of what he’s been hearing. I told him to leave it alone.”

KATHERINE: Please do.
KATHERINE: Oh shut up. I wasn't that bad!
KATHERINE: I'm only saying it because it's true. But good, I hope you wouldn't. He's horrible.
NATHAN: Were so ;)
NATHAN: It's not true so shut the fuck up about it. But yeah, I know he is. He's lame as fuck, trying to act younger than he actually is.

KATHERINE: I'll be waiting. 😊
KATHERINE: I certainly hope not. I don't know what I'd do if I lost you again, Nate. Especially now.
KATHERINE: Like you'd be able to keep your cool if I was sucking your cock under the desk.
KATHERINE: That's because she's got the hots for that nasty pervert. You and Jefferson should double team her, that's like her wet dream.
NATHAN: Well you don't need to think about that because it's not gonna happen. I'll make sure of it.
NATHAN: Bet I could keep my cool better than you, squirmy.
NATHAN: Holy fuckin shit, don't even start on that again. And I wouldn't be caught doing anything with Jefferson. Everyone thinks he's so cool, but I think he's fuckin weird. I don't like him.

KATHERINE: Yeah, sounds good. I'll meet you in the parking lot.
KATHERINE: I'm so glad you told me. I never would have on my own. That's why it was so hard for me when you left.
KATHERINE: If we were in the same class right now, I'd have you on your knees under the desk, not playing around with your phone.
NATHAN: Good. Truck will be unlocked so just hop in if you get out there before me.
NATHAN: Wasn't easy for me to leave, Kitty. Fuck, I was forced. Had no choice. But there's no way in hell I'm gonna leave you again, not even by force.
NATHAN: Or I'd have you on your knees, but either way, that's exactly why it sucks we're not in the same class. Everyone's boring as fuck today. Specially Vic but she's always like this in Jefferson's class.

KATHERINE: Most definitely. We could always blow off the rest of the day and go do something.
KATHERINE: A good way. A really good way. I miss you more than I usually do during the day.
NATHAN: Two Whales? Wasn't too long ago I ate, but I'm down for second breakfast if you wanna have your first.
NATHAN: Good because.. I mean there's no doubt I feel the same. Miss you too, you know. Sucks we aren't in the same class right now.

katherinescanvas:
Katherine could tell Nathan was still mostly asleep, and the way he was cuddling her up in his arms was adorable. She was glad he wasn’t mad that she’d heard the whale noises, since it seemed like something he might not want others to know about. He was also too out of it to care, she mused. She smiled softly when he pressed his face into her neck, goose bumps forming at his hot breath on her skin. It was cute more than anything else when he told her to shut up
but the way he ended the sentence caught her off guard. Her heart climbed immediately into her throat and her stomach tightened as she looked down at him with wide eyes. He hadn’t even realized what he’d said. How long had he been holding that in, she wondered. It was like hot liquid had been poured directly into her veins; every nerve-ending in her body seemed to be alight. There were tears in her eyes, she realized, and she was just glad it was dark in here. There was a lump in her throat she could hardly swallow around, and she ran her fingers through his hair, raking her eyes greedily over his face before sinking lower so their noses were millimeters apart. Her hand landed on his cheek, and the pad grazed over his lips. Leaning closer, she brushed their lips together, her hand circling around to the back of his neck while one of her legs lifted over his waist, pulling him as close as possible. “I love you too, Nate,” she whispered, and it made her head pulse with amazement. She’d never said that aloud before. Even growing up, her parents hadn’t been affectionate people, and she thought maybe she’d said it a handful of times when she’d been little. But to a boy? Never. The thought was terrifying and ridiculous. And between the two of them, it just wasn’t how they worked. But it felt so good to hear it, and though she knew he hadn’t meant to say it, she couldn’t help herself. And once it was out, she couldn’t stop. Her kisses grew more frantic and her nails dug into his neck, her leg tightening around him. “I love you so much.” The arousal building in her belly was different than anything she’d ever experienced before. It wasn’t so sharp or urgent–it was like a further way to express the emotions she was feeling. “Wake up,” she whispered, and it was half a giggle, she felt so giddy. “C’mon, I want you so much right now.” She slipped a hand between them and cupped his cock through his boxers, squeezing around his thick length and circling her thumb teasingly across the head. “Say it again, Nate,” she breathed into his ear. “Tell me you love me.”
At first, Katherine’s light kisses and soft touches soothed Nathan to the point where he felt like he didn’t need to wake up. They were just going to lay like this until he inevitably fell asleep again and she followed, he thought. But then her kisses grew more frantic and he felt her nails pressing into the back of his neck, which caused his eyelids to flutter open again, waking up a bit more just in time to hear her return that sleepy confession he’d made. A shiver coursed down his spine and he pressed himself more closely against her when he felt her leg tightening around him. Love obviously wasn’t a word or emotion that Nathan just threw around like it was no big deal. It was no secret that his family life was hard and consisted more of business than love, and he’d never had a relationship last long before he grew bored and moved on. Katherine was special, though. She was everything he could possibly ever want, all wrapped up into one person. She understood him on a level that nobody else could even begin to pretend to, not even Victoria, though she was pretty high up there. He knew if he shared half of the dark thoughts with her that he shared with Katherine, Victoria would tell someone in order to try to get him help and he’d probably end up right back where he wasted the last year of his life. With Katherine, though, he felt all of his secrets were safe, and he could feel that absolute adoration hovering between them as he gently tightened his hold around her. “..Kitty--,” he murmured, unable to complete his sentence when he felt her hand grab his cock through his boxers, almost fully awake at that point. “I love you,” he whispered against her skin, a fiery burn of realization spreading through his stomach and chest when it finally settled in what he was telling her. That didn’t stop him, though, especially when he remembered that she’d said it back to him, more than once. Shifting beneath the duvet, Nathan moved to hover overtop of Katherine, pressing a tender kiss to her lips before trailing his lips down over the curve of her neck. “I love you so fuckin’ much,” he breathed out against her neck, his hands moving to slowly push his shirt she was still wearing up her body, slightly rough palms roaming over her soft skin. Again, just as he had been while dressing her earlier, Nathan was careful as he removed the shirt, avoiding accidentally hitting her arms as he leaned up a bit to toss the piece of clothing out of the way, before lowering himself back down to her, capturing her lips in a searing kiss this time.

katherinescanvas:
Upon entering the girls’ dormitories, she was glad to find the corridor mostly empty. Dana had her door open, of course, so when Katherine walked past Dana came to the door. “Good to see you walking around,” she said, glancing quickly over her clothing and neglecting to say anything. Which was what Katherine had always liked about Dana: she had a filter, and she wasn’t nosey. “Feeling okay?” Katherine gave her a small smile and nodded. “Yeah. I’m fine. Do me a favor and just don’t mention it to anybody.” Dana waved it off with a grin. “Of course not. As long as you aren’t planning on doing it again, it never happened.” And she believed her, too. It was with a strange feeling of satisfaction that Katherine went to her own dorm to grab her phone, but found Samuel inside cleaning. Not wanting to be seen, she quickly ducked away and headed instead to Britney’s room, figuring she could just text Nate from her phone and let him know she didn’t have her own. Anyway, hopefully he would just go to sleep. Britney’s door was closed but Katherine let herself in, as they generally did to one another. Britney sprang up from her bed and engulfed Katherine in a hug that she reciprocated with a smile. “You fucking scared me, Kat,” she said when she pulled away. “Listen,” Katherine said, sitting down on Britney’s bed and looking at her. “You don’t talk about that and I won’t bring up the fact that you told Nate about Frank.” Britney blushed fiercely, which was enough to tell Katherine that she really did feel badly. After agreeing to put it behind them, Britney gave Katherine her phone, which she’d taken from her room just before she and Dana had gone to get Samuel. Nathan didn’t text her back, and with both girls exhausted from the day’s events, particularly Katherine, they settled into Britney’s queen bed to go to sleep. Katherine really had planned on sleeping there, but once she heard Britney’s soft snoring and started thinking about Nathan, she knew there was no point resisting what she wanted to do. So she climbed out of bed, careful not to wake Brit, and made her slow, cautious way out of the girls’ dorms and back to the boys’. Her heart was beating fast as she cracked Nate’s door open and slipped inside, chest tightening at the familiar smell. She loved being with Britney, but nothing compared to Nathan. Nothing in the world. Squinting to see in the dark, with a beam of moonlight shining in through the window to give her a bit of help, she removed his phone from his chest, with a couple unopened texts from her, and then found the remote in his hand. She set that aside and then crawled onto the bed beside him, cuddling into him and releasing a contented sigh. She pulled his headphones off carefully, and pressed them to her own ears before setting them aside. It took a moment for her to make out what it was, and when she had, an enormous smile lit up her face. It was so
vulnerable, somehow. It was difficult to believe there was anything that could calm Nathan down, let alone the sound of whale songs. It was beautiful, and her chest swelled with affection. “Nate,” she whispered, pressing soft kisses onto his lips. When he began to move, and his eyelashes fluttered, she went on, “I came back. I didn’t wanna sleep without you.” Her lips trailed down to his neck and then up to his ear. “You never told me you listened to whale songs to help you sleep when I’m not here.”
As the headphones were removed from his ears, he didn’t care one bit, now that he had Katherine loosely wrapped up in his arms. Even when they were removed, he could still hear the whale noises distantly before they were completely gone, being replaced by Katherine’s voice as she pressed soft kisses against his lips. “Hmm,” he hummed out in response to her coming back to him, which he most definitely would’ve been more thrilled about if he wasn’t half-asleep. Sucking in a deep breath and shifting a little on the bed as he felt her lips wander along his neck, up to his ear, Nathan lifted a hand to gently land against Katherine’s back, just to make sure it was really her and he wasn’t just hallucinating all of this in his sleepy state. When he was convinced this was the real deal, his chiselled features relaxed again, all except for a small, lazy smile that tugged up the corner of his mouth as she continued to speak, Nathan barely being able to piece together her entire sentence. Because of this, he assumed she was teasing him over his personal sleep therapy, and he wiggled himself down a little lower beneath the duvet, turning to lay on his side as his arms wrapped around her waist and he nuzzled his way in to press his face in the crook of her neck. Taking in a deep breath of Katherine again, he relaxed once more and tiredly dabbed a light kiss to her skin. “Shut the fuck up.. I love you,” he slightly slurred in a raspy murmur into her neck with his eyes closed again, obviously not processing the feelings he’d let slip. Of course, anyone with a pair of eyes could see that Nathan loved Katherine above all else. It was apparent in his actions (not just with her), the way he spoke to her and about her, and how he never really wanted to do much of anything unless he could bring her along with him. Add in the fact that he was fully prepared to kill for her at a moments notice, and that loving bond was pretty damn unbreakable. But if there was one thing Nathan never really learned how to properly express, it was love. And so, it was never really spoken of between himself and Katherine, only shown in their own, wicked ways. Until now.

katherinescanvas:
Katherine definitely did want to talk about tonight, but she saw that it was a fruitless thing to pursue, and she didn’t want to upset him. She hadn’t sliced her arms up just to piss him off again. As long as he knew she really was sorry, like he’d said, she was content for now. They could talk more about it later. She knew the subject of Frank was far from put to rest, and she’d have to make sure he wasn’t planning to do anything behind her back. She doubted very much whether he’d kill him now, but there was a distinct possibility he would hurt him. More than he already had, that was. But it was hard to concentrate on the bad when Nathan’s hand was roaming dangerously close to the band of the boxers she was wearing. As soon as his fingers started rubbing through her pussy, she was amused but unsurprised to feel the familiar pressure of arousal in her belly. “I am sore,” she said softly, looking into his eyes as his fingers worked their magic. She lifted her knees and spread them open wider for him, her hips starting to rock into his touch. “It stings like hell. I can’t decide if I want them to leave scars or not. Could be pretty macabre, right?” The joke was lessened by the breathy quality to her voice, and the fact that a couple seconds later she let out a small moan when he started rubbing over her clit. In all honesty, she couldn’t stop thinking about the way Nathan had taken care of her when he’d found her bleeding, or how scared he’d sounded. He never let his emotions show like that. It made her feel sentimental in a way she didn’t usually, either. Just as she let her head fall back against his shoulder, giving into his touch and the inevitability of what was going to happen, Nathan’s phone rang. The growl that came out of his throat was intimidating, and she let out a huff of disappointment when he answered. But when, a moment later, he handed the phone to her with an annoyed expression on his face, she went from irritated to curious. “Kat,” Britney breathed as soon as Katherine said hello. “Thank god you’re okay. I know you probably wanna be with Nate right now, but I think it’d be a good idea if you stayed with me for the night. Just tonight! We won’t even talk about it, I just
I’d like to see you.” Katherine’s level of annoyance lessened as she took in the somber quality of Britney’s voice, and she wound up smiling softly. “Yeah, okay,” she said, and she could practically see Brit fist-pumping the air. “I’ll be over there in a few, alright?” When they hung up she handed the phone back to Nathan, but stopped his hand when he went back to where they’d left off. “Listen, I’m gonna go stay with Brit, alright? She’s really upset. I’ll stay with you every night this week, I promise.” Seeing him about to start pouting (thank god he didn’t look pissed), she laughed and planted a kiss on his nose. “Stop pouting, goof. I haven’t spent time with her since you got back. You should sleep anyway.” And with a gentle kiss pressed to his lips, she slid out of his bed and tied her hair up in a ponytail to keep the drying strands out of her face. “I’ll be in your clothes all night, don’t forget,” she said with a small wink. “I’ll stop by my room and get my phone so we can text, okay. Don’t miss me too much.” Before she left, Katherine blew him a kiss, and as she left the boys’ dorms she had butterflied in his stomach. It was going to be slightly awkward seeing Britney after she’d slapped her before, but they definitely needed to talk, and for as much as Katherine genuinely disliked most people, she didn’t want to lose her best friend.
Nathan knew as soon as he saw his sister’s name on his phone and she requested to speak with Katherine when he answered, Britney was going to want Katherine over at her dorm, which annoyed him to no end, considering she’d just let him take Kat to his dorm for the night. Of course, considering it was his sister, he didn’t get seriously pissed, just allowed his bottom lip to jut out in a small pout. If it had been anyone other than Britney though, there was no doubt Nathan would have refused to let Kat go anywhere else for the night. Even as he attempted to keep her in his bed longer, his fingers picking right up where he’d left off, she stopped the movements of his hand, which caused his pout to grow a bit more noticeably. “Okay, okay. Fine.. Guess I should try to sleep, yeah.” He murmured against her lips before watching her get out of his bed to fix her hair. “I’d rather you be in my bed all night, out of my clothes all night. But guess that’ll have to do for tonight.” A lazy smirk tugged up the corner of his mouth as he watched her leave, lifting his hand up as if to catch the kiss she blew, and waited until she shut his door before he reached over to grab his headset, carefully placing the cushioned speakers over his ears. Turning on the music player with a small remote, Nathan eased back into his mattress and pillows, closing his eyes as he listened to the soothing whale noises, which was really the only thing that was able to calm him down enough to sleep at night, other than Katherine. With how exhausted he was from all the excitement through the day and night, it didn’t take long before Nathan dozed off into a peaceful slumber, his phone laying over his chest and the small remote still in hand. The last thing he remembered was feeling a few short vibrations against his chest, signalling new messages, but he’d been much too tired to even open his eyes to read them. Instead he slept, for who knows how long, before being gently woken up. It felt like he was dreaming, with how asleep he still was, only conscious of someone removing his phone from his chest and the small remote he’d forgotten was in his hand before feeling a slender frame cuddle up to his side. The familiar intoxicating scent of Katherine soon filled his nose and, with a small smile still in his sleep, he slowly turned more toward her, a content hum vibrating against the back of his throat, just barely audible to himself over the sound of whale noises still singing gently into his ears.

katherinescanvas:
Hearing Nathan tell her he wasn’t mad was an enormous relief, and for the first time in hours she felt herself relax a little bit. She was gaining awareness back quickly, which was good, except that now she could feel her wrists stinging like hell. A pink flush took over her cheeks as she thought about the scene she’d inadvertently caused. She realized she hadn’t really thought it through, although to be fair, she’d been out of her mind with grief, and had just witnessed Nathan almost kill Frank. She supposed she’d at least gotten back at him the way she’d intended, because he definitely felt guilty. Part of her felt vindicated, and was glad she’d done what she did. She hoped that when he’d seen her in her room like that, he’d felt as horrible as she’d felt when he told her to go back to her room alone. But as she sat on his bed and watched him change out of his own clothes and grab dry ones for her, all of that poisonous energy washed away and she was left only with a warm contentment. She got butterflies when he kissed her so tenderly, and she let him take her clothes off to slip a shirt and a pair of boxers on. They smelled like him, and she closed her eyes and breathed it in. His words were soothing, and reassured her that she’d done the right thing, in her mind, at least, even if it had been a close call. Sometimes dramatics were necessary to get what you wanted. Particularly when you were dealing with Nathan Prescott. She loved him–so much so that she was willing to hurt him in order to get him to forgive her. When he laid down beside her, she cuddled into his side, her body relaxing further. “Water would be good. I’m pretty thirsty.” Very thirsty, actually, which was probably because she’d lost a hell of a lot of fluid along with the blood. She was still a bit dizzy, which she knew would last until her body re-regulated everything. As he got up to get her water, she looked around his room, taking in the dark photography he had hanging from the walls and wondered again whether he really would have killed Frank if she hadn’t been there to stop him. There was very little doubt in her mind. Mixed with those morbid shots, however, were pictures of her, some of them half-naked, a couple fully so. She’d never cared–she liked the attention. She liked the idea that anyone he had in his room could see those pictures and would know what she looked like naked. “Thank you,” she said when he came back, taking the glass and carefully tipping some water into her mouth. She set it back down on a nightstand and then settled against the pillows, relaxing against Nathan once he was back in bed. “I wasn’t trying to hurt myself, you know,” she said, looking at him seriously. “I was trying to get your attention. You wouldn’t believe me that I’m sorry. Do you believe me now?”
It was true that if Katherine hadn’t figured out where Nathan was going that night, if she hand’t been there to stop him, he would have killed Frank without a second thought. Right as the older man opened the door to his trailer, Nathan would have shot him in the head and left. Maybe, in some twisted sort of way, this was like destiny. Maybe Frank wasn’t supposed to die, maybe he was supposed to suffer for a long time first, which was exactly what Nathan had planned for the dealer. However, he was going to keep that to himself and not share his evil plan with anyone, not even Victoria and sure as hell not Katherine. Not after she’d actually stopped him that night. But that drama was over and done with, for now. Now, he wanted to solely focus on the girl in his bed and tend to her every need. When she asked him for water, he didn’t even hesitate getting back out of bed in order to get grab a bottle out of his mini fridge and pour some of it into cup, bringing it back over to Katherine. “You’re welcome. Just tell me when you need more.” Carefully sliding beneath his duvet again as she took a drink, Nathan immediately wrapped his arms around her, one hand pushing beneath the shirt she was wearing in order to roam over her bare skin. Despite the circumstances, he was an extremely touchy-feely person, when it came to Katherine at least, so it was difficult to keep his hands off of her when he’d thought moments ago that he was going to lose her for good. “Shh,” he hushed her, shaking his head a little from the exhaustion the night had brought. “I know you’re sorry. But I don’t wanna talk about tonight because it makes me feel like shit and out of control, and I fuckin’ hate feeling like that.” That kicked puppy expression soon took over his chiselled features again, attempting to hide it from her this time though as he gently nuzzled his nose into her hair and closed his eyes, sucking in a deep breath to calm himself down with her familiar scent. “You’re probably sore, huh, Kitty,” he murmured against her hair, his fingers slowly trailing over her stomach before slipping beneath the waist of the boxers he had just dressed her in. “Think I can come up with a pretty good distraction.” With that said, his fingers slowly slid further down to rub over her bare pussy, tilting his head to attach his lips to her neck as he sucked wet kisses over her skin, before two of his fingers pushed between her pussy lips, stroking up and down through the length of her slit.

katherinescanvas:
Katherine was hardly aware of what was going on after she heard the scream. There were muffled voices whispering outside her dorm, but she couldn’t focus on them. With great effort, she managed to curl up in a ball on her side, pulling her arms in toward her chest. They stung like hell, and that was the most she could feel at the moment. Marilyn Manson was still screaming in the background and she tried to focus on that as one single, terrifying thought drifted through her head: I went too far just now. I’m gonna die. I’m gonna bleed to death. She hadn’t wanted to die. Katherine scoffed at those people who even considered suicide, thinking it was cowardly and pathetic. This had been an attempt to hurt Nathan–only now she realized she might not be alive to watch him see her like this. Eventually, after what felt like a long time, she heard Nate’s voice. And she honestly believed she was dying, that his voice was something her brain was coming up with to make it easier as she drifted into death. But then her head was lifted, and suddenly she could feel something on her cheek, and she managed to let her eyes flutter open. “Nate?” she croaked, trying and failing to lift an arm and touch him. She was just able to make out that it was, indeed, him, and a weak smile that was more of a grimace twisted her mouth. “I’m so sorry,” she whispered. She was too delirious to realize she was crying again, and she didn’t notice what was being done to her wrists until they were taped and suddenly the stinging was less intense. She tucked her arms against her chest as he lifted her up, and when she was set down on her bed, she laid her head back against a pillow, sighing at how nice it felt. “Don’t let her fall asleep,” she heard someone say, and it sounded vaguely like Dana. “That was a lot of blood. Make sure she’s fully conscious before she goes to sleep. She could go into a coma.” Then another voice chimed in, and that Katherine knew was Britney. “That’s for concussions,” she said. “Should we take her to the hospital? Did she lose too much?” A soft third voice from somewhere near the doorway made Katherine’s eyebrows dip, unable to place it. “You have to lose a lot more than that to need a transfusion. You should stop crowding her, though. Let her wake up more and then give her a lot of water.” “Kate’s right,” Britney said. “Nate
why don’t you take her to your dorm, away from all the blood. We’ll go find Samuel so he can clean up. He won’t say anything I don’t think. We don’t need any faculty
getting involved.” Katherine was lifted again, and as they left her room, she heard Dana questioning Britney about why they shouldn’t get the faculty involved when Katherine had just slit her wrists. Dimly, she hoped Britney would come up with a good excuse. She felt the rain as they went to the boys’ dormitories and it managed to wake her up a little bit. She pressed her face into Nathan’s chest, inhaling his scent and telling herself she was really with him. When she was set back down, she tugged weakly at his arm, making him lie down beside her. “Please don’t be mad at me,” she whispered, burying her face against his shoulder.
As the girls crowded around to attempt to diagnose Katherine and give instructions on how to take care of her for the rest of the night, Nathan was sitting down on her bed right next to her, gently brushing strands of hair out of her face before his fingers loosely wrapped around the side of her neck as his thumb lightly brushed back and forth along her jawline. He didn’t even look up when Kate appeared at the doorway out of nowhere, though his ears did perk up a little bit to listen to what she had to weigh in, nodding a little just as Britney spoke up in agreement. “Right.. Alright, that’s a good idea.” His voice was much softer than normal as he stood up from Katherine’s bed and carefully scooped her up in his arms. After Kate went back to her dorm and Dana stepped out of Katherine’s dorm, Nathan walked out with Katherine and started down the hallway, Britney closing the door behind them. Although it was obvious Dana knew something was fishy when she questioned Britney’s plan, Nathan ignored the conversation, his concern completely focused on Katherine as he walked outside, shirtless and shoeless, carrying her back to the boy’s dormitories while attempting to shield her as best as he could from the rain. He hurried quietly down the dark hall, not wanting anyone to see Katherine as he carefully managed to open his door and slip inside, slowly closing it behind him again. It was dark in his room, and quiet, the only dim light coming from the iPhone dock on his bedside table. Once he neared his bed, he gently lowered Katherine onto it and was about to get her one of his shirts so he could change her into something dry, before he felt a weak pull at his arm and he moved to lay beside her, his arms wrapping around her when he felt her bury her face against his shoulder. “I’m not mad at you. I’m.. I’m mad at myself,” he spoke in a shameful voice, soft and low, barely above a whisper. Of course, he blamed himself for what Katherine did. If he’d just listened to her, brought her back to his dorm, this could’ve been prevented. Pressing several small kisses to her head, he slowly started to pull away from her so he could get back up, but before he fully stood up, Nathan tilted her head up a bit with his finger in order to press a chaste kiss to her lips. “You can’t sleep in that, you’re gonna get sick.” He murmured against her lips before he finally stood up, and went over to one of his drawers. First, he unfastened his belt, pushing down both his jeans and briefs (both soaked from the rain) before he grabbed a pair of boxers and pulled them on. After that, he grabbed one of his shirts and another pair of boxers before returning to his bed to carefully strip Katherine of her wet clothes. His warm hands roamed over her cool body as he slowly pushed the nightie up her slender frame, being extra careful not to touch her arms as he pulled the nightie off. After helping her pull on his shirt, Nathan leaned down again to press another kiss to her lips, hooking his fingers in the waist of her panties before he slowly started to tug them down her legs. “You can’t leave me like that,” he finally whispered against her lips. “You can’t try to leave me like that ever again. I can’t stand the thought of shitty world without the beauty of Katherine Liddell.” Nathan only sat up again in order to pull the boxers he’d retrieved for her up her legs, before he was crawling onto the bed again to lay down beside her, tugging the covers up over them. “Do you want anything? Water or something?”

Watching Nathan’s face change from raging fury to heartbreaking betrayal made Katherine feel like throwing up. She’d never seen him like that before, and knowing that it was her fault, that she’d put that look on his face, made her wish he’d point that gun at her instead. Still, she sobbed with relief when he pulled the gun out of Frank’s mouth, despite the threat he left him with, knowing that at least all of this was done for the night. It wouldn’t be the end of it, but it was over for now. Katherine wanted so badly to go inside the trailer and at least clean Frank up before she left, knowing he’d just drop into bed and go to sleep without doing so, let alone going to the hospital for stiches which he undoubtedly needed. Frank was nowhere near as handsome as Nathan, but he had a nice face beneath the errant tattoos and the filth, so it hurt to know that his mouth would be slightly disfigured from now on. She didn’t care look back at the RV too obviously, though, as Nathan grabbed his wrist and dragged her to his car, his grip so tight she was sure there would be a bruise later. He was terrifying like this–the sadness wasn’t gone from his face, but it was mostly hidden beneath a renewed rage. She realized she was scared, and when he told her to get in his car, she hesitated without meaning to. The tears that had begun to slow came back, and she wrapped her arms around herself as she finally climbed inside after he shouted at her. The ride was absolutely silent and she hated it, debating with herself over whether or not it would be a good idea to say anything, apologize again, beg for forgiveness, something. But in the end she kept silent, because she was terrified of what he might do. When they pulled into the lot, she was thinking so hard about what she’d say once they got to his dorm that he started her with his order. It took her a moment to process what he’d told her to do, and her stomach twisted into tight knots once it sank in. Calling Frank her boyfriend was the final nail in the coffin, and she began crying again, although she knew he had to be disgusted with her. She was disgusted with herself, to be honest. But there was a new emotion growing alongside the disbelief and the horror over what had just happened, and it was anger. It was indignation that he wouldn’t let her apologize, no matter how awful she felt. That he made her leave her car, and now he was ordering her back to her room, where she wouldn’t even be able to see him. That he was forcing her to go the night without knowing where she stood–if they were still together, if he still wanted to be with her. As he began to walk away, Katherine lost her head and ran after him, grabbing his arm to spin him back around. She let go as soon as she saw his face and realized what she’d done. He looked terrifying, and her stomach sank. “Nate, I
” She stopped, swallowed, and tried to compose herself with very little success. “What about
please, let me come with you, I just
” Again, she trailed off, though, knowing she was just digging herself a deeper hole. She watched him go when he turned around again without a word, his face saying enough, that he didn’t want to talk, didn’t want to see her.
By the time she got back to her own building, the rain had picked up, and she was dripping wet as she walked down the hall to her room. Dana, whose door was usually open, came out and put a soft hand on her shoulder. They didn’t usually talk, but Dana was someone Katherine didn’t fight with, because she held respect for her. “Kat
what happened? Are you okay?” Katherine shook her head. “I’m fine,” she said softly. “I was taking a walk and I got caught in the rain. I’m really tired, I’m gonna go to bed.” Dana raised a perfect eyebrow. “You were taking a walk in your pajamas? Come on, Kat. Tell me what’s going on. Let’s go wake up Britney up, will you talk to her?” Britney’s name sent a flare of fury through her veins and she tugged her arm away from Dana. “No. Just leave me alone, Dana. I’m fine.” She left Dana standing there and went to her own room, where she shut the door behind her and leaned back against it. Her eyes roamed the room, stopping when they landed on her little case of CDs. With anger and hurt pulsing through her veins, Katherine went to the CDs and took out two of her Marilyn Manson albums. One of them she placed in her stereo and turned up–the other she bent until it snapped in half. She didn’t bother with her shoes or changing out of her soaked nightie, she was too intent on getting back at Nathan right now. It wasn’t fair. She’d done what she had to do when he left her, he wouldn’t let her apologize, Frank was lying probably unconscious in his RV, and Katherine felt like she’d lost every ounce of control over what was happening. She sat down on her floor with her back against the bed frame and stuck a sharp corner of the broken CD into her wrist, pressing until it broke the skin and blood gushed out. She dragged it in a crooked line until it began dripping off her wrist into her lap, and then she lifted the CD and brought it back down just below that line. She did this once more and the switched to the other side, thrumming with a sense of revenge. She was only able to get two gashes on her other wrist when she started feeling lightheaded and the CD dropped from her hand. Distantly, she heard someone knocking on her door, and she thought it might have been Britney’s voice. “Kat?” she heard from the other side, and it sounded like a dream. “Kat, Dana said you were upset, can I come in? What happened? Where’s Nathan?” The knocking became a little louder and more frantic, and finally it banged open, Katherine just barely able to make out Britney standing there, and then a shrill scream.
As much as he hated being alone, he despised the thought of leaving Katherine alone even more, but he was upset and felt extremely betrayed by someone he felt he could trust, and also someone he loved dearly. Nathan immediately locked his gun up in one of his drawers once he returned to his dorm, shedding his jacket with a shrug before tossing it aside and flopping down on the bed, his feet dangling over the edge. Without a second thought, he grabbed his wireless headset, placing the padded muffs over his ears carefully before he turned on the one sound that never failed to calm him down enough to properly sleep; whale noises. Their language was peacefully, like a song as they called out into the mass body of water to each other, and he could feel his tensed muscles relaxing, until he felt frantic vibration in his jeans pocket. Quickly, he pulled out his phone, icy blue eyes taking in the screen to reveal that Britney wasn’t just texting him, she was calling him. He might have ignored her text messages, but worry quivered through his mind whenever she called him because she never did that unless she told him prior that she was going to. Shoving the headset off of his head, Nathan sat up in bed as he swiped the green answer button and lifted the phone to his ear. “Hey--,” was all he got out before a hysteric Britney cut him off and started rambling on the other end. “Nathan, oh my god! Kat -- I’m at her dorm -- she’s bleeding.. everywhere. There’s so much all over her arms, I don’t know what to do, Nate, please!” Even as she sobbing on the other end, Nathan was already running down the hallway and out of the boys’ dormitories, sprinting as fast as his legs would let him to the girls’ dormitories. His heart felt as though it was lodged in his throat, Katherine the only thing on his mind, even as his bare soaked feet ached from pounding against the cement walkway, his shirt and jeans drenched from the pouring rain. He burst through the main doors, staggering from the impact before he regained his balance and footing, and raced down the hallway to Katherine’s dorm. Hardly even giving his sister a glance, Nathan brushed passed Britney into Katherine’s dorm and dropped down to his knees in front of her, one of his hands immediately lifting to cup her face.
“Kitty, babe, look at me.” Icy blue eyes frantically swept over her face, noticing the loss of colour and how she seemed on the edge of fainting, which had his throat feel like it was tightening all the more, his eyes stinging from emotion. “Brit, go get your med kit from your dorm,” he instructed, taking a brief second to look over Katherine again before his quickly turned his head to focus on his sister. “Now! Go!” With that, she took off, and Nathan returned his attention to Katherine. Carefully removing his hand from her face, he all but ripped his shirt off, forcefully tearing it down the middle for two separate pieces, pressing both of them on either of her arms in order to stop the blood flow. Once Britney returned to his side with the white plastic container, Nathan grabbed it from her, opening it on the floor to grab what supplies he figured would help. After carefully removing his shirt pieces, he cleaned Katherine up and then bandaged her wounds as best as he possibly could with Britney’s help, a single tear rolling down his cheek at the thought of potentially losing Katherine forever. “Kitty, talk to us. Say something. Anything.”
