Far Beyond A Promise Kept by oliversnape

In which Severus takes on the role of Harry’s caretaker. AU, of course, starts just after Harry inflated Aunt Marge. Enjoyable, close enough to canon portrayals of the character for them to be recognisable.

Notes: there is one exchange between Severus and Petunia which some people may read as Severus admissions that he dropped the branch on her intentionally, however, neither of them refers to any specific event, so I’m more inclined to think that Severus is actually trying to annoy Petunia. I find it more offensive when he says that it’s Lily’s death that turned him away from Voldemort, when in fact he goes to Albus Dumbledore much earlier than that.

Carry That Weight (A Long Time) by PazithiGallifreya

In which Severus survives, to everyone’s surprise, it appears that he and Harry are related by blood. And of course that Severus is in denial. Truthfully, so is Harry for some time. There are a few more things that Severus must learn to accept.

Notes: It’s slow paced and takes a bit of time for Harry and Severus stop dancing around each other and meet face in face instead. It’s not Snily (fear not here, Lily is mostly mentioned in connection to “how did it happen?” When I first read it, I found Severus a bit harsh at times, but the feeling disappeared when I reread it after rereading the books. The fic is actually a part of a series, so if you (general you) liked the fic, you may like the companion pieces, too.

To Recollect The Future by oliversnape

In which Harry and Severus go back in time just after the Hogwarts Battle and decide it’s a good idea to fix some stuff before it happens.

Notes: Nothing that I can remember of, but I haven’t read this one recently. It’s probably the most canon-like approach to the relationship between Severus and Harry that I saw in this author’s fics.

Redefining Life series by oliversnape

Set after OotP. In which Harry does a very foolish thing, motivated by grief, somehow stumbles upon Severus Snape (or more - he’s found by him) and somehow Severus ends up taking care of him.

Notes: very AU-ish. May have some wince-inducing moments, too, but which fic doesn’t have them every now and then? (The truth is I just don’t remember - last time I read it more than half a year ago)

Blood Protection by sheankelor

In which Severus Snape cast a certain spell in hopes to save at least one Potter and somehow it works good enough for Harry to live. Of course Severus also decides it may be better if he take care for Harry instead of the Dursleys.

Notes: I think that the main reason I did read the fic and why it stayed in my memory is because from the beginning Severus’ feelings for the Potters are constructed differently (it’s as if he had a chance to deal with the past trauma), so his will to care for Harry doesn’t come out of nowhere. Still enjoyable even if very AU.

Chills series by Henna Hypsch

A series of stories in which a relationship develops between Harry and Severus. In the course of event Severus become a mentor/paternal figure to Harry.

Notes: Nothing that I can remember of.

Never Say Remember by Malora

In which Harry Potter switches places with Harry Snape (who is also a Potter) from alternate universe. Chaos ensues, of course. Set during Harry’s third year.

Notes: Technically there are some bits of Snily in the other universe, however, I put it here, because I loved to see the relationship building between canon!Harry and other!Severus and other!Harry and canon!Severus.

Lily’s Charm by ObsidianEmbrace

(For some reason the story was transferred to a group account in that archive. Somebody upload this story to AO3, but I doubt it was the author themselves, so use the link provided here, please)

Starts short before Harry’s sixth year. During his visit in Gringotts Harry finds a Pensive in his vault. The memories he sees in it shake his whole world. For once, it appears that his father is not what he thought it was.

Notes: Very AU and old (I think it was written before the sixth book came out), for it assumes Severus to be a pureblood. Very Snily for flashbacks. It’s the first part of a trilogy actually, but I liked this story the most. I like how Harry and Severus build their relationship in it.

Digging for the Bones by Paganaidd

In which a tragedy happens at Hogwarts at the beginning of Harry’s third year and in result Harry is removed from the Dursleys’ care. And somewhere along the way he finds a new family.

Notes: I’m a bit wary of putting this one on the list, mainly because I don’t remember the details of it. I know that I did not delete this one after I reread it after rereading the books, but the details of the story escape me.

Trigger warnings: child abuse, a child death because of abuse, attempted suicide, self-harm (I think)

Moment of Impact series by suitesamba

In which Harry finds a new caretaker and new family at that after he gets hurt in accident caused by Vernon Dursley. Starts before the 6th year, ends after the war.

Notes: another one of these I read too long ago to remember, but clearly good enough to make an impression on me.

Undoing the Past by LadyLanera

In which Severus Snape travels in time in order to fix some things and save his beloved wife’s life in the process. Of course he dumps Harry on his younger self, too.

Notes: Not Snily. I won’t tell you who his wife is, because it spoils everything. Features Severus’ parents - no worries, they aren’t bad. There is continuation of the fic, too, but I couldn’t get into that one :/

The Art of Forgetting and Forgiving by Scorpia

Two stories. In the first one, every year Severus visits his son in Privet Drive, but erases the boy’s memory of the meeting afterwards. In the second, Severus saves Harry’s life many years later, after finding him half dead.

That Awful Boy by paracosim

In which it slips Petunia that she knew Severus Snape and somehow Harry ends up in Severus’ care.

Notes: Technically Snupin, too, I list it here, because I like the relationship forming between Harry and Severus. Remus’ attempts to get to Severus are rather cute, too, but it’s a completely different matter, really.

I don’t know which part is my favorite. Snape being worried about Harry? The image of Snape running around the forbidden forest looking for Harry? Snape thinking he could search the entire forest by himself? It’s all so good.
