A Princess' Wish
Tumblr media
A princess like yourself has everything one could wish for - wealth, bountiful meals, people to tend to your every need. The life from so high up carries little weight...and that includes relationships. When you are gifted a lamp and a skittish genie within, you can't help but use your new status as 'master' to finally make a bond with another.
Pairing: Genie! Katsuya Serizawa x Princess! Reader
Request: Can you write a oneshot featuring Serizawa and a woman reader in an Aladdin AU please? In the fic, the reader is a princess who finds a lamp containing a powerful but nervous genie aka Serizawa. So the princess takes her time with her wishes while showing him around the palace and her kingdom. (@princeasimdiya12)
Word Count: 3.8k
Rating: Fluff
Warnings: Fluff so sweet your teeth will rot, Author knows little about Middle Eastern/South Asian culture but tries her best :,), reader is implied/written as shorter than Serizawa but can be seen as leaning down
A/N: I meant to release this WAYYY earlier but got caught up in life...but as you can see I had a lot of fun with this request! Thank you for my first request! :D
Some might say being a princess was the best title to have. Sure, it was wonderful being pampered in a palace with pretty clothes and endless food...but sometimes you grew too accustomed to the schedule. Wake up, get dressed, walk around the palace with guards and maids and monarchial officials your father wished you to network with.
Even your cheetah, the pet that you loved dearly, was growing lethargic alongside you.
Like every other afternoon, you sat lounging at the archway out to your balcony. Your pet was lying behind you while it allowed you to use its side as a backrest. Your eyes watched the bustle of your kingdom from down below.
You grew tired of this scene a while ago, but you had no determination to even stand and find another activity to partake in.
You had talked to everyone you could today. As of now, you were certain everyone knew your grievances of the day. Being a princess gave them more incentive to stay quiet and just listen. It upset you more now rather than before that no one could openly have a discussion with you.
Unless your uncle was in the palace.
You could hear the man's booming voice echoing off the big, spacious rooms of the palace. As usual, he was chatting up a storm with the guards at the front doors. It seemed every time he left on yet another business trip, he would come back with stories. Too many for the time he was gone. But why question? He had a way of telling his experiences that kept you wanting more.
"You must leave them alone, brother. They have a job to do." Your father's voice was quiet, gently scolding his family for his loud voice.
Your uncle scoffed as he pulled away from the one guard. "Oh, you are no fun. The longer you have king-status over your head, the more bland you become." He crossed her arms over his chest to scratch at his shoulder. "I have no idea how your daughter can stand all the rules. Half the reason why I left!"
Your uncle laughed aloud and slapped a hand on the king's back. The king was not amused.
"Uncle, you needn't worry so much. I am...fine." You finally revealed yourself from the hallway. Making yourself known caused your uncle to smile widely and cheer your name.
The man ran towards you just as you were. He came from below to wrap his arms around your torso, spinning you around as he stood back up. "How I've missed you, dear! You get bigger every time I see you." A few seconds of laughter, and he let your feet return home to the shiny tile floor.
"I am an adult, and I have been for a while. That line no longer works for me - I have stopped growing. Silly." You readjusted the flowing fabrics on her shoulders as you spoke.
Your uncle scoffed, waving a hand dismissively to the side. "Pssh, whatever. You're not the one who travels the world and sees thousands of faces. Excuse me for forgetting your exact height."
The king cleared his throat to gain his daughter and brother's attention. He walked over to stand next to them, "Anyway, we are happy you are back, brother. We'll have your things unpacked and then share a big feast, alright?"
"Can't wait! I've missed palace food." Your uncle agreed before being escorted down a hall to his room. They dragged his several bags and other items down with him.
The palace picked up in excitement at the king's brother's return. Workers prepared an extravagant feast for the royal family. Now, you sat in the large dining room at one end of the table, your father to your right and your uncle to the left.
Your uncle was on yet another story, something about negotiating with a group farther out in the country.
"They were so thankful, they gave me gifts!" He exclaimed as he moved his hands around. "Jewels, textiles, fabrics...I think a few gold items. One of them gave me this little lamp-"
"A lamp?" You perked up, your eyes tearing from your half-eaten plate in front of you.
Before your uncle could humor your question, your father shook his head. "Yes, a lamp. Meant to light a room. I thought you knew this by now."
"She loves genies, brother. Let me talk about it-"
"No." The king denied, silencing his family in the room. He sighed as he ate his food. "It is a lamp. Nothing more, nothing less."
You suddenly stood from your plate, running your hands over the shiny fabric of your sari. "I'm done with dinner. I would like to go feed my pet now."
Your father sighed once more and looked up from his food. He was already late with the action, as your footsteps already left the room.
"Brother, must you continue with these fantasies? Genies do not exist." The king reprimanded in a hushed tone.
His brother groaned. This argument happened every time he visited - without fail. "Let the girl dream. It hurts no one to allow her to rub its side and think a genie will appear. I saved it for her." He paused his words to set his drink down.
The tense topic halted and dropped as your uncle brought up a bland one instead. That one, your father could answer.
You huffed and turned on your heels. Your shoes allowed your steps to be silent as you angrily went down some hallways.
It was upsetting to hear your father dismiss you so quickly. You wished he cared enough to at least pretend. In fact, you were so frustrated that you somehow ended up in front of your uncle's room.
Taking a quick survey down both ends of the hall, then into his chambers, you went in. You ducked under the layers of fabric hanging from the archway to find his bed. He had not unpacked yet, so his multiple bags lay strewn across the ground.
You had no clue what came over you, but you opened the bags as quickly as you entered the room. Despite the anger, you made sure to close them as you had found them until your eyes found your gift.
It was a small lamp, and it fit comfortably in both palms. A golden base with an intricate purple carving down the sides.
You knew this would show your father that you weren't silly!
Your hand rubbed the side of the lamp while your other gripped the handle.
...
Nothing happened besides the gentle, warm breeze coming in from the nearby balcony.
Well, this ended up proving your father's point...
"Whatever," You sighed and tossed the small object back on the top of the bag it originated from. "Big help that was."
Before you could turn away to leave, the lamp began shaking in its spot. It buzzed against the fabric bag until a bright light shot out from the nozzle. You turned away to save your eyes from the blast. The noise and light made you assume it would hit you...but never did.
Instead, you heard a voice.
"Oh no, here we go..."
You peered out in front of you between your fingers to see a man. He had short, dark brown hair, wearing a bright orange long-sleeved shirt and beige baggy pants. He had a small orange vest over the shirt, embroidered with golden thread.
"I-ah, wait, my hat! Where did my hat go??" The man frantically reminded himself of his outfit. He muttered to himself, lost in his worries about his missing hat.
Somehow you managed to pick up the small black hat from the floor next to you and extend the hand out to him. "Is...Is this it?" "Oh, yes, thank you!" The man chuckled in embarrassment as he took the hat to situate it atop his messy brown hair. "I, er, apologize, I am usually more put together for first appearances for my masters."
Judging by this interaction, you had a hard time believing that apology. But you appreciated it nonetheless.
"Master? I'm not your master." You shook your head, but paused before continuing. From all the stories you had heard growing up, all signs pointed to one thing: "You're a genie!"
The man nodded in agreement. "I am! Oh, well wait-" He quickly backtracked and darted his gaze around to get an idea of his surroundings. "I-I'm the one who's supposed to say that! It's part of my introduction! Jeez, where did I put my practice sheet..."
You had to watch the figure pat himself down, looking for whatever a 'practice sheet' was, before finally pulling something from his hat. He cleared his throat and squinted at the weathered paper below.
"I am the Genie of the Lamp, here to brant your greatest wishes! Uh, w-wait, I don't think I have that right." The man suddenly waved a hand out in front of him to try and get the focus away from him. He turned to the side, studying the paper intently as he read the words to himself in a huff.
"Excuse me?" Your gentle interjection made the man jump, covering his embarrassed flush with his paper. You took a few seconds of silence to reorient yourself, "If you don't mind me asking...how long have you been a genie? You seem...inexperienced. Maybe that old paper isn't gonna help, just say what comes to mind?"
The suggestion made the man slowly lower his paper, glancing back and forth between something he relied on and something new. He gulped at the thought of going off script, but decided to listen to his new master. "W-Well...I am, uh, the Genie of the Lamp, as I stated before...and I grant wishes. Which is kind of what every genie does, and I'm sure you already knew that part since you knew what I am, so there's really now point to keep talking - why am I still talking?" His words kept going, and it must have been his lack of human lungs that kept his rant going.
Through some miracle, you got the man through his introduction. It was the usual: The master is only allowed three wishes, and they are not allowed to wish for more than the given amount.
"So, that's your name?" You asked with a hand to your chin. "Genie? That's feels a bit on the nose, no? It feels like you were born to be a genie then."
The genie took a pause as he shoved his introduction sheet back into his hat. "No, Genie isn't my actual name, but that's what all my past masters have referred to me as. I suppose it's just stuck with me."
You frowned at the thought. Did all his previous masters really only care about the wishes? They didn't even ask for a name?
"Okay, then what's your name? It feels rude to just call you by your title."
"Oh...Katsuya Serizawa...but I don't really mind if you call me Genie. I'm used to it by now."
"Nonsense, that's your name. And I quite like it compared to Genie."
Surprisingly, it wasn't all that hard introducing your new genie to your father and uncle. They were shocked, of course, and wary...but they chose to nod their heads for your sake. With a new person around, the palace felt livelier.
"Are you sure? Princess, you can wish for almost anything!" Serizawa stepped behind you as you left your bed chambers. "Just-Just anything! Just please wish for something..."
His whining got a laugh from you. You spun the little lamp's handle around your pointer finger as you walked through the halls. "Relax, Serizawa, there isn't a time limit, is there? Is it so bizarre I like your company more than the thought of wishes?"
Your words apparently shocked the man. He caught himself out of his fascinated stupor and fidgeted with his golden-threaded vest to occupy his hands. "W-Well, uh, that's incredibly kind of you, your majesty. I had no clue you appreciated me so much only after a week."
"Of course I do. You're the only person I can talk to freely." You answered and shoved the lamp into your pocket of your loose outfit. "It feels...nice. Really nice."
You took another pause as you approached one of the open window sills on the first level of the palace. "Which is why we're going to have some fun today! Let me show you stuff outside!"
A chorus of worries came from Serizawa as you jumped from the window and quickly made your way through the palace's outside gardens. Dodging a few soldiers, you were able to climb up the guarding walls and land on your feet with a thud.
"Princess, this isn't safe! Shouldn't we stay in the palace?" The genie asked, his head tilting back and forth between your retreating figure and the nice, protective wall you just so easily maneuvered...
Well, maybe it wasn't the most protective wall then.
Serizawa had no choice but to follow since you were his master. And your argument, though weak, had enough conviction in your voice to make him trail along. With your fool-proof disguise (a thick hood to pull up over your head) you set off into the market to bring your new companion along.
As Serizawa followed behind you, he made sure to be as inconspicuous as possible. He had to seem like he was a real person there with you and not an all powerful genie that had been pulled to the local market. No pressure for him.
"Two please!" Your words suddenly cut through the genie's worried frenzy. He was now in front of a food vendor, which he watched you hand off some currency for a meal. You pulled him out of the Main Street and sit together under some awning.
You held out the second serving you bought. "Do you eat? I haven't seen you eat anything since we've met."
"Uh, well, I do eat. But none of my masters have ever really fed me...D-Don't look at me like that!"
The confused look on your face made Serizawa even more nervous, his arms coming up to hide his face expect his eyes.
"They haven't fed you? But you come sit with me at all my meals! That was a chance to speak up. I can't believe you haven't starved yet!" You scolded slightly before setting the food in his lap.
"I can survive without food, but I can still eat it." Serizawa mumbled behind his arm. "I didn't mean to make you upset, I just didn't know how to ask..."
You pointed to him. "Well now you know. You can speak freely to me as I do to you. That's how companions are, right? Now eat." You huffed before biting into your food finally.
Serizawa took your distraction of eating to slowly slip his arms back down to his sides. He stared at the kind gesture you had presented in his lap. "...Manakeesh? I haven't seen this food in a while."
"It's my favorite vendor. I love the zaatar our cooks make at the palace, but this one in the market is somehow better." You explained with a happy nod, the mouthful of spiced bread making the comment come out mumbled. Luckily, Serizawa understood and quickly followed suit in his own hunger.
Food was followed by more wandering, and wandering allowed you time to catch the man up on new things he missed while shoved in the golden lamp in your pocket.
"It's all different...but still the same. I was worried everything would have changed." Serizawa's eyes finally strayed from you to watch the bustling people walking every which way. He disliked the crowded space, but it was bearable with you leading him right in front.
You smiled at the relief in his tone, "There's this fabric place I like to frequent. Care to see if those are still the same?"
"As you want, Master."
It was an easy walk to the little shop, your feet already knew the turns needed to take to enter the front walkway. You greeted the shop owner as usual and walked further into the hanging fabrics.
Serizawa was so entranced by the colorful patterns and soft feel of the fabrics that he accidentally left your side. Luckily, he could find your silhouette behind a few of the hanging pieces.
"So...you called us 'companions'?"
You heard the man's gentle voice from behind the thin veil of fabrics. He saw your figure turn to him, and despite not seeing your gaze still felt the need to dramatically cover his face with his hands.
"...Yes, is that not what we are? I had assumed, sorry." You responded. Your body slowly turned away to stroke another fabric, hopefully turning away would give the genie a little more confidence to keep speaking.
There was a pause. A pause of decision.
"No, no, that's alright, Princess. You don't have to apologize!" He whispered as he threw the words from his mouth. Serizawa turned away again, his hands touching the fabrics like that would ever calm his nerves. "But you're my master. None of my masters have ever said we were to be companions."
"And none of your master have asked your name, Serizawa. I'd like to not be like your previous owners...Actually, I'd like it if I wasn't your master."
"...What? But you have my lamp. That makes you my master."
"I'm not really looking for another person to have to boss around just because of my status. I like this...thing we are right now. We're having fun, aren't we?"
You drove yourself further into the hanging patterns in a lazy attempt to calm the emotions. You wanted a companion, why couldn't the man see that too? He was certainly a reserved one, but stubborn.
"So a friend?" Serizawa eventually asked in return, his voice moving around as he checked through the shop at his own pace. "I've never had one. I don't know how to be a friend."
You sighed and dropped the floral silk in your hand. "I don't think your past experience really matters. You aren't working for me. We're equals-"
You must have stepped back a little too far with too little care, because your back collided with Serizawa's. The contact made a thwack and both you and the genie mumbled an 'ow' together. Once you rubbed the pain away, you turned to face the man.
And you were met with a colorful fabric between you.
"...I've never had a friend, either. So don't feel bad. I have no idea what I'm doing here either." You admitted, your eyes squinting as you tried to trace Serizawa's figure from beyond the semi-thick silk.
Serizawa brought his hand up and brushed the fabric aside. "I'd like that." He smiled.
He realized what he said made little sense, and gasped. "I-I meant to being friends! Not that you don't know what you're doing, that sounded rude I am so sorry Your Majesty!" The brown-haired man cried, pouting as he pressed his palms together in forgiveness. The silk slapped against his head, draping half over upset expression.
"It's okay. I'd like to be friends too." You couldn't help but let a laugh slip from your mouth while you watched his apologetic attitude. You returned his previous gesture, swiping the fabric back to let it touch his back.
Serizawa slowly opened his eyes to stare thankfully towards you. His sweet smile returned, and you swear your stomach fluttered.
You liked his smile much more than his pout.
Your new friend gave you something you had never gotten before. Companionship? Trust? You weren't quite sure what it was, but your heart stirred each day with more appreciation for the genie.
So much time passed, that for a while, you forgot the man you spent your free moments with was not a regular man. He was a genie with three powerful wishes and you were his master. But thankfully he was more than that. And he felt more than servitude for you. So much more.
"So, have you finally decided on a wish?" Katsuya questioned as he approached you by the balcony. "You deserve something. I...I want to give you something, but I can't unless you ask."
You took a deep breath, your nose filling with the busy commotion of the market just below the palace. A pink tint brushed over the land at the sunset that hung over the nearby horizon. "I've already told you, I can't think of anything. This palace, this kingdom, it's all I've ever wanted. I'm content here." Your face turned to look at the genie. "Your companionship is the only thing I could've ever hoped for. And you can't give me that with a wish."
Katsuya opened his mouth to speak, but decided against it. He sighed, and groaned as he rested his forearms on the balcony railing. "Princess, you are the most confusing master I have ever had the pleasure of getting."
"What?" You perked up and followed your friend's movement closer. Before you could ask further, he answered.
"I'm a genie, I am here to give you wishes. Most pick three things, and then it's back into the lamp. That is the cycle. But you..." Katsuya paused to pick his head up and look at the people below. "You're different. I can move the world and stars for you, Princess. I would love to move the world and stars. Just for you. Just say 'I wish' and I'll do it in a heartbeat. You deserve it." Serizawa pleaded, his voice warm and wanting.
"You're my wish, 'Suya."
A bright red color burst onto the genie's face. You had never seen someone whip their head around to face you so fast in your life. The silent reaction of the man next to you made you laugh.
An embarrassed chuckle came from Katsuya as he followed your lead. His mouth immediately shut once you stopped your own laughing. The sweet response hung in the air, carried by the hot breeze swirling over the open balcony.
"Is it strange, to say I'm glad?" He asked quietly, as if you were in a crowded space and he only wanted you to hear. He only wanted you to know how good it felt to be important to someone. Not just his powers - but Katsuya himself.
You contemplated the question with a tilt of your head. You shook it eventually and leaned closer to him. "No. I don't think anything you do is strange."
Serizawa tensed under the pressure of your head against his arm. His anxiousness was palpable, and you could hear his audible gulp and rustling of his top as he fidgeted with it.
He quickly calmed down and relaxed with your touch. Serizawa cranked his neck to rest his cheek on the top of your head.
"You're my wish too, Princess."

Hi there. Can you draw Stefani Reyes having a vision please?
Omg I hate that this is one of your first impressions of my art bc I fear I did not eat this one. But might as well show you what I came up with.
Lowkey had trouble figuring out how to visualize Stefani having a vision/premonition, but I came up with this. She鈥檚 dreaming of the Skyview essentially, and there鈥檚 iconography from the premonition all around her little thought bubble
I should have done a character study on Stef before bc I feel like I didn鈥檛 capture her likeness that well and I struggled coming up with and visualizing the iconography, but ykw I think it鈥檚 good enough!
Hopefully you鈥檙e not TOO mad at me馃様
