Things they don’t tell you about top surgery
- Talk to the surgeon about the size you want your new areolas/nipples (don’t be afraid to ask)
- Numbness. No one talks about this for guys who are about to have surgery. You’re going to be numb all in your chest area, especially where the incisions were. They cut nerves as they pass along your chest, and it can take up to a year to regenerate those nerves. Still, feels super foreign for the first two weeks
- Make your bed into a pillow chair, body pillow, two on each side, and two for your head.
- Sleep alone. I tried to sleep with my girlfriend and it was miserable. You really do need the entire bed for yourself
- Go on Groupon, & get yourself a 10 foot lightning cable iPhone charger, BEST THING EVER, can reach from wherever you are
- Don’t take a week off from work, take two. You will regret the one week, and love the extra time
- When they say “don’t move too much, even after the first week”. LISTEN. I moved way too much and got so sore super quickly.
- Drink lots of water & eat if your taking the pain medication, otherwise your stomach feels super funky.
- Get stool softeners, & don’t be afraid to take those babies. Don’t wait a week to poop. you’ll surely regret it.
- The drains are scary & they may hurt while draining or rewrapping your dressings, but once they come out, the second they do, its no more pain, its crazy.
i hope this helps someone, because i wish i knew all of this when i was having mine a month ago. Looking back its like everyone forgets all the real negatives, its a great experience, & i healed very well & quick compared to most, but the first few days are crazy. They hurt, suck but it gets better.

Podcast Recs
So I’ve recently gotten into podcasts and I decided to make a list of all my favorites in order to spread the love.
Welcome to Night Vale: The first podcast everyone listens to. About a small desert community where strange and fantastical things occur on a daily basis. Comedic and introspective with horror elements. And a lot of positive POC, LGBT, and disabled representation (including a lesbian hijabi Muslim!!! A girl in a wheelchair who pulls off a heist!!! A sarcastic, British agender sheriff!!! A little African American girl who reads books and saves an entire town!!!!) 10/10 recommend.
EOS 10: A medical comedy set in in space. Amazing. It takes a few episodes to really get interesting, so if you listen I would suggest listening to at least the fourth episode. Nobody is straight, and it’s wonderful and I would die for each character. Also, Dr. Urvidian. Trust me.
Alice Isn’t Dead: By the some of the same people who did Night Vale. A creepy, haunting story about a woman driving trucks across the country to search for her missing wife. It’s incredibly set up, and so well-written. Warning: some gory imagery and description of murder. Also, WOC protagonist and pretty much all women.
Within the Wires: GUYS. This story was incredible. The format’s really unique: it’s set as a series of relaxation cassettes that slowly reveal the history between the narrator and the listener. It’s GREAT. Seriously, give this one a listen. It’s actually really relaxing between all the bombshells about the plot. It’s also by one of the guys that writes Welcome to Night Vale, so of course it’s gay.
The Penumbra Podcast: This is another one that’s hard to describe, but it’s a collection of stories, a different one every episode. Some are recurring, but some are stand-alone. SUCH amazing representation here, and funny/creepy storylines. There’s a nonbinary bisexual MOC, a Native American wlw BANDIT, a knight with a physical disability, women with actually good characterization, and a lot more. How often do we see that?
The Bright Sessions: Basically superheroes who go to therapy. Good acting, cool storylines, a cute romance. Again, lots of representation. Realistic depictions of mental illness and PTSD. And bisexual, lesbian, gay, and asexual rep!!!
Wolf 359: A story about the crew of a spaceship circling the Wolf 359 star. At first I thought this was a comedy, but it got dark pretty fast. The characterization is great. The story is comedic and gritty and fast-paced, and I would die for Isabelle Lovelace. If you like space shenanigans and found family, this one’s for you.
Kakos Industries: This podcast is hilarious. It takes the format of a corporation’s monthly shareholder announcements. Only this corporation, headed by the legendary Corin Deeth III, helps you “do evil better.” It might disturb you a bit though, so if you don’t like sex jokes, murder, and swearing, stay away from this one.
The Orbiting Human Circus of the Air: A weird little show by Night Vale Presents that’s really hard to describe, but it includes an absolutely wonderful narrator, the cutest protagonist, and amazing side characters. The format’s cool as well, so I recommend giving it a listen. (also the main character’s a mlm!)

I literally can’t stop thinking about how The Bright Sessions took the high school football jock and made him an empath, so he’s not only attentive to and in touch with his own emotions but also with the emotions of all the people around him,
and then (particularly with Adam’s “The guy who kisses me the way that you do, who holds me the way that you do, the guy who makes me laugh the way you make me laugh”) they gave him what is easily the most tender and genuine m/m relationships I’ve ever seen in media.
Caleb Michaels is approximately twenty Really Good Character Decisions rolled into a seventeen year old boy who drinks herbal tea out of a flask.

Me listening to my first podcast, circa 2012:wow, this is so calming and relaxing
Me now, a dozen podcasts later: every show I listen to starts sweet but ends up causing me pain, I know better now than to take the first few episodes at face value
Also me: wow this new podcast I’m listening to is so calming and relaxing

I love the difference in podcast naming conventions because it goes from like
1. Magnus Archives. Named things like ‘Jon’ and 'Tim’ and 'Martin’. I love them but those are some bland ass names.
2. Bright Sessions. Named things like 'Annabelle’ and 'Damien’ and 'Rose’. Getting a little less common but still fairly mundane.
3. Penumbra. Named things like 'Juno Steel’ and 'Sasha Wire’ and 'Mick Mercury’. Hey now, getting a little funky!
4. Critical Role. Mollymauk? Jester? Damn these are some cool names, but you’ve still got like. Caleb and Percy.
5. ARE YOU NAMING YOUR GODDAMN WIZARD TAAKO?

I will never cease to be amazed by just how much podcasts can get away with. Like… with so many tv shows people have to fight tooth and nail for LGBT representation and even then at most you might get like hand holding or a small kiss before the scene changes quickly. But podcasts? There are no rules. There are no restrictions. There is only creators putting great representation into our grubby little gay hands.
