Okay, I feel like talking more about this game now. And where better to start than the first ending I got?

Turns out a lot of things would be better, actually, cuz my first ending got me on the Comedy Route. Which starts off with Takumi killing Eito (Oh btw, Eito's crazy and screwed over everyone else in the first playthrough, in case I'm the only one you look at for LDA stuff. Which I doubt.) which...kinda didn't prepare me for the other routes on the "Kill Eito" side of the flowchart, but I'll get into that later. I will say the ending I got there was where Takumi gets Super Smart*** Syndrome and decided "Screw it, I need to vent" at the last minute, cuz of course he did! Also the supreme commander suddenly falling for him was way out of left field, but then again, it's the Comedy route, logic and storytelling feels like an afterthought here honestly. In any case, as pointless as Comedy is, it at least gains a few points when I look at it as a sort of palate cleanser after dealing with a more hard-hitting route.

...Such as the Cult of Takumi route, which has my second ending, and kinda the whole reason why I love Takemaru so much. Because without him, things would go south very quickly. Basically starts with Yugamu giving Takumi drugs that would make everyone in the SDU more attracted to him, and Takumi just takes them without a second though. Drugs that Takemaru flatout stopped Yugamu from making. And it was at this moment I knew, I ****ed up. Like, I though it was better to keep Kyoshika alive because Nozomi and Kurara would have a harder time making up without her. That was my reasoning. But I digress. In any case, things go from bad to worse, especially with Sirei and later Eito (who btw is alive cuz this is reached after sparing him instead of killing him) giving rewards to the other students which are all "do thing with Takumi" which starts off innocent enough, but quickly turns dubious, especially with Eito determining the rewards (seriously, don't tell me I'm the only one bothered by Takumi licking whipped cream off Eva's body (Oh, Eva's the commander you initially spared in route 0 btw, and we can understand the invaders' language now.)) At this point, when it finally reached the point where I get a choice, you better believe I picked the one to stop the whole madness, thanks to Nozomi being the only one unaffected due to her not really being a hemoanima user. Except the madness doesn't end, Takumi ends up taking drugs thinking they'll fix him, but they instead turn him into a vegetable, and the rest of the brainwashed SDU kills Nozomi. And the route ends with...well I'm already pushing the sort of vibe I tend to keep on this blog, but if you know, you know.

Man, kinda messed up that my first two routes didn't really explain anything (supposedly there's something in the comedy route that spoils a twist, but idr if that came up in the path I was on) but I just took it as "going back in time to fix everything rarely goes the way you want" sort of deal, and I was still interested to see what else was here. Anyways, at this point, I forget what order I got the other endings, but I think next time I'll probably go over the ending that I think ends better for everyone involved overall that isn't the "everyone lives" ending.

Doing something a little different from my usual fare and talk a bit about a game that got my attention: The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- (I'm just gonna call it Last Defense Academy here on out). Specifically the characters, and I'm gonna go into this mostly within the context of route 0, but not the ending, but also assuming you know that the game opens up after that. So no talking about you-know-who in that context or the other you-know-who, sorry. I'm serious about spoilers after all. Also gonna go in order based on what's on the TVTropes character page. Probably the same in-game order, but if it's not, at least you have context for that.

First off, Takumi Sumino

(Yes, I'm gonna throw in a low-effort doodle of each character from Paint. It's funny to me. I will not be taking any criticisms.)

Idk what to say really, dude is the main character and therefore is pretty much straightforward. I guess he does get more interesting after route 0 though, so there's that.

Takemaru Yakushiji

Dude is awesome! He's the most broiest bro that's ever bro'd in the history of brodom! There's only one time I can think of where he really got on my nerves in the open game, and even then I don't hold it against him. Dude is obviously the highlight of the game. I mean, dude even went out of his way to train Shouma! Like, being able to build that self-proclaimed pile of dung up is absolutely incredible! Not to mention he doesn't take any crud from Hiruko. Speaking of...

Hiruko Shizuhara

(yeesh, this looks awful even by my standards. Y'all are just gonna have to bear with me)

Hoo boy, Hiruko is a real witch with a capital B on first impressions. And unfortunately she disappears from the academy, so you don't really have much chance to get to know her either. Still, there's one moment where you get the idea that she isn't the cold-hearted witch she acts like, and it's when she says, and I might be paraphrasing here, that victory only matters if everyone survives. Obviously there's more to her character after the game opens up, and I can easily talk more about her in that context, but I take spoilers seriously, so I'm gonna keep quiet there for now.

Darumi Amemiya

Alright, she's obviously meant as an over-the-top reference to Kodaka's most well-known series. She's crazily obsessed with Killing Games to the point that people just ignore her at that point. That said, there is one line I recently recalled in the first scenario that hints that her family kinda sucks. This does get fleshed out more beyond the first playthrough, but again, I'll keep quiet there. Sad, she's actually one of my favorites, but keeping to the first playthrough, I can't really say much more.

Eito Aotsuki

Arguably the closest thing to Takumi's sidekick, he is unbelievable corny and stuff that he's actually quite endearing. I like him a bunch. He's also the first among the group of non-fighters to actually change their mind, and that's with very little effort from Takumi. Can't fault him for doubting the circumstances, but overall it's pretty much important to fight to keep the group alive at least.

Tsubasa Kawana

(sorry that the hair is barely visible)

Obligatory tanned girl with a large...personality? Okay, that joke doesn't really work, she's one of the more normal people in the cast really. Her only oddity is that she has a weak stomach, so she pukes a lot. Which doesn't bother me in the slightest, honestly. She's also a mechanic, which...somehow translates to her being good with a lot of machines in general, I guess? I mean, I'm not so good with machines myself, so my skepticism there isn't really based on anything. Anyways, I like her, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how absolutely broken she is in battle. Too bad I still didn't use her much XD

Gaku Maruko

Dude is obviously meant to be the "useless idiot" archetype (so why is he so useful in battle and also one of the first to join after Eito?) that I tend to find annoying, but it's hard not to see where he's coming from. I mean, how else would you react to being suddenly drafted to defend a school building for 100 days without so much as a "How do you do?" For what it's worth, he's not completely annoying either. Dude has his moments, like his Persuasion segment (which technically started with Tsubasa's, but hers wasn't particularly noteworthy for me) showing that underneath it all, he still cares about his family, even if they drive him nuts! He also setups a lot of fun events for the group, like that barbecue (which I will never forget due to Ima eating his fish frozen) or that festival with the depressing music (dude, your music tastes leaves a lot to be desired).

...Huh. Kinda tells a lot about a character when they have a longer write-up than the previous characters so far even if I don't like them that much. Even discounting my random tangents. Guess I can understand why some people like him so much.

Ima Tsukumo

...Wait, seriously? He's next?? He's not even the next among the LDA cast to join, that's Shouma!

(Okay, I just checked in game, and the order they're in in the report card is in fact the same as on the TVTropes page. Weird.)

Ah well, I guess it's fine to get him out of the way sooner than later. In a nutshell, I hate him! Dude is creepily obsessed with his sister to the point it's bordering on incest, is extremely controlling of said sister, and doesn't care to listen to anyone else's opinion, including his sister! And you wanna know the worst part? That's not even why I hate him! No, the reason I hate him is because of one thing: He fucking stabbed Takemaru. Like, what the heck?? I get not wanting to fight because you never really gave consent to fight in the first place, but stabbing someone is several degrees beyond what's considered a rational response to being drafted against your will! Ugh, I actually wished he died when he disappeared in route 0, but I'll settle for dying before the penultimate battle. (which btw, is what I'll consider the point where I stop talking about what happens beyond.)

(oh btw, just because I hate him doesn't mean I don't think he doesn't belong in this game or think people who like him are bad. Heck, I'm glad there's at least one character I hate. At least that serves as small proof for me that each character here is truly unique)

Kako Tsukumo

Here we have the other of the Tsukumo twins. Unlike her brother, she's quite timid and is more friendly with the other students. Oh, also, one thing I forgot to mention with Ima's write-up (Though I guess I lightly alluded to in Gaku's write-up) is that they both have...very questionable tastes in food. Like the afformentioned frozen fish, and...uh...no other examples are popping up, sadly, but they're there, trust me! And of course, how can I mention her persuasion event that ends in failure? Because of course it did, I'm pretty sure no one would like that event if it was a success instead! Literally cheered when that happened XD. Anyways, yeah, I like her a lot more than her brother.

Shouma Ginzaki

...Why do I connect with this character so much?

Okay, dude has a huge self-esteem problem that makes Chihiro from Danganronpa 1 look like Togami! And that honestly annoys me sometimes because in some ways this loser is me. Like jeeze, having to deal with such a deflated self-worth is just auuuuuugh. Even now while writing these things, I considered just scrapping the whole thing because who wants to listen to anything I have to say or see my crummy doodles? And if you're reading this, then obviously that means I went against my feelings the whole way and actually posted it. But enough tangents, one other thing I have in common with him is a love for dogs. He even describes his dog, Leo, as his only friend, which is simultaneously sweet and depressing. He also has a nice relationship with that imprisoned Commander which is sadly limited by the language barrier. Oh, did I mention that his class weapon is a freaking mecha. Like, dang, for such a depressing character, that's surprisingly badass. Anyways, yeah, I kinda both love and hate him lol. With a larger edge to loving him.

Nozomi Kirifuji

(okay, light hair is obviously a problem for me lol)

Finally getting to the 2nd-to-last academy students, and first up among those is Karua??? Okay no, she's not Karua (who is Takumi's friend since childhood) just someone who looks so much like her it's uncanny. She even has a lot of things in common with her, like how both their mothers are researchers, and how neither of them can deal very well with alarms (mood, I'm not so good with loud noises myself). There are key differences though, like how Nozomi's parents are both dead, while only Karua's dad is dead. Also they both like eggs, which I'm only adding because I think it's funny to! Anyways, she's the clear 2nd protagonist to the story and has a lot of moments with Takumi, and she even lets him in on some of her secrets. Most notably, that she kinda snuck herself into the whole war effort, and that her mom has experimented on her, which...is kinda messed up, even if Nozomi herself was okay with. No, ESPECIALLY because Nozomi was okay with it, because she's still a minor! Like, if her mom had any values, she wouldn't have allowed her own daughter to be experimented on!

...Okay, I might've let an event from after route 0 color my words here a bit, lol

Kurara Oosuzuki

(This one took the most effort, and it shows)

Obligatory rich arrogant a-hole alert here. Except this one's a bit weird. First off, that green tomato mask (which btw, green tomatoes are very much real, tomato fruits start out green before they mature into their red color. I know this because my family has grown vegetables before, and tomatoes are one of them.) Like, first time I saw her, I didn't even realize she was a girl! And she quickly proved to be annoying with her constant accusations of others' perversions, which...girl, dost the lady protest too much? Like, okay, most of these remarks are towards one person who absolutely is that perverted, but spoiler alert, it's not Takumi, who is the second most common victim here...and then she ends up fighting Shouma and bites off a bit more than she could chew that ends up in her mask getting removed and holy crud she's cute and is very apologetic afterwards?? Talk about a 180 XD. Anyways, one thing that redeemed herself in my eyes is that she didn't get all haughty afterwards when back in her mask and accepts her defeat. Like...yeah, that's one thing I would never expect from that character archetype. And she has her moments later on even with her mask on. There's also one ending that I have to be remiss on because I'm sticking to my "don't spoil anything beyond route 0 too much" schtick, but if you know, you know.

Kyoshika Magadori

Remember when I said most of Kurara's comments towards one person is justified? Yeah, she's this person. Kyoshika is a rather sheltered swordswoman (Why is that not a word? I feel like it should be a word) who is pretty goofy in how seriously she takes her status, and a lot of her knowledge comes from...manga. Yeah. And a lot of her attempts to defend herself from Kurara's comments only proves them. Gonna be honest, I can't really say I like her all that much.

Yugamu Omokage

Okay, so first impressions were that he's a male Darumi, what with the shared interest in murder and what not, however once you actually get to know him, it becomes clear that they're worlds apart. While Darumi is all for wonton amounts of killing among the students, Yugamu has a more...subdued? I don't what word really fits here, but he basically only likes killing people he likes. And only if they also want to kill him. So basically, you should be fine being friends with him as long as you don't want to kill him! But anyways, can't say I like him as much as Darumi. Granted, he does get the spotlight in a couple of routes, but one of them is pretty infamous, and...yeesh. Too much baggage with him for me.

Moko Mojiro

Last but not least we have Moko! And...that's all I have to say!

Okay, not really, I don't wanna leave her entry empty, but it's important to note that at no point in route 0 do you actually meet her. Like, spoilers for route 0, I know, but when "Moko" actually arrives at Last Defense Academy, that's not actually her, that's an impostor. So basically, I'd have to confirm some stuff from the routes after 0 to talk about her, and honestly I'm fine with that. The impostor did a decent job imitating her anways.

Anyways, despite how "Moko" kinda blew up at Nozomi in Route 0, she's really not that callous or insensitive. She's genuinely a sweet girl (and purple hair is a bonus for me as well lol) who also plays up her wrestling persona. It's just sad that they don't really get into her character that much, because she's definitely one that I'm super interested in!

Anyways, that's it. This took me a lot longer than I expected, and I suspect it has to do with those doodles I made. I definitely wanted to do something and didn't just want to grab pictures of them from wherever, but man, even when it only takes me a few minutes for each one, the emotional toll I got when my brain went "You seriously want to go with this" when I didn't even want to spend that much effort in the first place is huge. Like, I don't wanna say "I'm not cut out to be artist" cuz yeah, that stuff takes serious effort. I just don't wanna spend all that effort to be an artist, you know? Like, sure, I definitely do feel like I'm not cut out, but there also needs to be the desire, and I just don't have that beyond scribbles that take a minute or two, tops. In any case, there's still a ton that I could talk about this game, and I probably will at some point, just with 100% less doodles because I think I'm done with that lol.
