my current thoughts stray toward the disrespect given to names chosen by trans men and mascs. i'm gonna be eighteen soon, and i'm excited to (try to) change my legal name. i'll be able to do this right as i enter my senior year of high school. perhaps i finally wouldn't have to hear my given name during roll or have it used against me by my peers.

but since i've landed on a name--hell, since i've been looking for names--i've been scared of being open with it because of how commonplace it is to mock or otherwise openly demean our names.

when first discovering one's self as transgender or nonbinary, the simplest and most accessible way for someone to initiate transition is by choosing a name for themself. a name for the person they're growing into and learning to be. trans peoples' names are important. trans mens' names are important.

so it's really fucking disconcerting to be a trans teen in a period where people like me are such an inside joke that the outgroup (cis people) are allowed to jeer about us too now.

im so glad that i've found #transandrophobia because i genuinely would not have known that it was okay for me to be uncomfortable with others decrying my masculinity and gender as ugly, cringe, unwanted, gross, hostile, etc.
