I have this headcanon where Robron are on their way back from a pride parade, walking through the village holding hands, where they bump into a group of homophobic lads who are yelling verbal abuse at them, including homophobic slurs.
Robert goes bright red and his face drops, all of the dark memories from his past with his Dad flooding back, remembering the look of disappointment from his Dad’s face, thinking about how ashamed his Dad would have been of him now, daring to walk hand in hand with another man.
However, Aaron just shakes his head, and shuts all of those idiotic boys up by grabbing Robert’s face and leaping up to kiss him right on the lips. He then sticks his middle finger up at the lads and says “Happy Pride month you small minded dickheads” before winking and holding Robert’s hand to walk away.
Robert smiles, all of his insecurities, worries and doubt washed away instantly. He couldn’t have been more in love with Aaron even if he tried.
Okay, so I was just re-watching this little scene. And discovered a few bits, that I had missed during in the airing of the episode.
I don’t know what you all think, but I can’t help but think that Joe phrased the sentence rather oddly.
It could just me, but wouldn’t people usually say, “Have I missed much?”
But Joe specifically rearranges his sentence to “Missed much, have I?”
And more over, it’s the way he says it. Again, it could very well just be me, but does it seem as though he puts significant emphasis upon the first part.
And here is the best part for me.
As he says it, he is looking directly at Graham. Even though it appears as though the question is for Jimmy, with whom he looks at after he has finished the question.
So, to me, it appears that Joe is asking if Graham has missed him? Or it could be him saying that he has missed Graham. He could have been saying both, I guess.
I just found it interesting, the way he phrased the question, and then glances at Graham as he says it.
Also, Jimmy automatically looks at Graham, once Joe has asked it. Even though, by this time, Joe is looking at Jimmy.
We didn’t have much screen time with them, but what we did get was amazing. Especially if you look at all the details. The glances, body language.
Robert really can’t believe that Aaron would choose him because in his eyes he’s never been chosen by someone he really, truly loves before. He thought his dad preferred Andy. He loved Katie once (probably the closest he ever came to loving someone as much as Aaron), and she ended up choosing Andy. He thinks Diane and Vic love Andy more than him. He thinks he ruins everything he touches like his dad said. So the idea that Aaron might actually… want him? Even now. Warts and all. With the baggage. After actually KNOWING him as the messed up person he is beneath the bravado. It really kind of explains those heart eyes going on.
