Project Statement
☆ When interpreting and reflecting on the brief, 'evolution & unpredictability' through each workshop, I felt an increasing energetic pull to exploring a more spiritual view, specifically the evolutionary and unpredictable journey our souls encounter within life, death and beyond.
☆ Inspired by the likes of Hilma Af Klint and Robert Irwin and James Turrell, I combined and conveyed ethereal concepts through the use of geometric shapes and the act of capturing light within the third dimension.
☆ It was important to me to value the light as work in itself in order for me to convey the ethereal atmosphere of the veil between both the physical and metaphysical realm.

3D Final Piece
Fully developed 3D Final: Gold Foil & 2D into 3D
☆ I created and chose this piece as my final 3D piece as I feel this is the most developed sculptural work I have created in relation to my theme and reaction to the brief.
☆ Through this piece I wanted to further develop and encapsulate the aura of light and how it can be captured and manipulated upon any surface in which it is reflected upon. By being enchanted with how the 2D gold foil sheet managed to both manipulate and reflect light while also appearing interesting in itself, I felt it was a very interesting and engaging starting point to then somehow bring these ethereal reflections into a 3D form.
☆ I chose to develop my ‘star’ maquette as I feel it had an interesting composition however, I wanted to make the colours - which to me is the sculpture in itself - more enhanced and less of a monotonous feel!
☆ For the folded crease within the background, I decided to create a rainbow light/aura in contrast to the foreground star shape which I made a solid colour of sky blue.
☆ To me this piece is quite reminiscent of the electromagnetic spectrum which I quite enjoy due to its description of all kinds of light, including those of which the human eye cannot see. It is said that actually most of the light in the universe is in fact invisible to our eyes allowing us to unfortunately only be able to view a small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. The metaphysical. As human beings it is said that we emit infrared rays which cannot be seen with the naked eye. Due to this our bodies naturally release electromagnetic radiation meaning we are natural conductors of electricity, it follows that humans possess and electromagnetic field of energy around our bodies, otherwise known as an aura.
☆ I really wanted to visually represent and convey these themes within my Final piece as I believe as human beings we are one with the universe, we are spiritual beings which is often viewed very passively and often not seen which is represented by the blank white foreground of my 3D development whereas the mystical hues projected within the shadows of my sculptures represent the spirituality and unseen. Our physical realm and spiritual realm, beyond human comprehension.

2D Final Piece
Fully developed 2D final: Inspired by Gold Foil
☆ I decided for my final 2D piece I wanted to allow my work to show direct conceptual and personal development from the workshops I was most drawn to.
☆ For this piece I began to use geometric shapes in order to create painted beams and fragments of light within the paper, encapsulating what can be seen with the naked eye when observing materials such as the gold foil, a material in which I felt incredibly drawn to.
☆ I decided to use a fluorescent pink tone to fully capture the ambience of bright lighting/reflections. To further enhance the piece I also used a little bit of iridescent paint to create a sheer glitter affect, within the focal point of the piece, which can be interactively viewed depending on how it is observed.
☆ I quite like how often in spiritual culture, the act of death as well as life itself is often described using the symbolism for light, for example, “light of my life” and “light at the end of the tunnel” are common phrases used to describe these happenings. I feel that this creates the motif that this continuous evolutionary process from producing light and gas through nuclear fusion as we are children of the stars, to symbolically being the light of someone's life through charisma and finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, which can be seen as a spiritually full circle moment.

Final Time Based
Fully developed time based final: Gold Foil & Drawing Task (OS Map)
☆ For my time based final, I felt it was crucial to use and develop video sketches previously used to create a fully finished and well executed piece.
☆ I wanted to incorporate the ideas I had during the OS map task, the idea that each crease and embossment within our palms is a reflection of our evolutionary journey, almost like a map of our lives.
☆ To do this I had the idea of drawing on my hand with very thin fairy lights, wrapping them around my hand trying my best to intricately follow each vivid line within my palm before taking a video.
☆ I then placed each video into my editing software to then apply different adjustments and colour advancements to enhance the saturation and contrast within each video before overlaying and adjusting the opacity and masking the top layer which I felt appeared very effective as it gave the illusion of an energetic aura framing my hand!

Sound development: Gold Foil
☆ To create this sound I recorded and heavily distorted the noise of the gold foil.
☆ However, I feel as I kept reverbing and distorting the audio it began to cause crackly affect which has then caused me to have a distaste for the audio, however the forever ascending sounds within this piece make me think of the ascension of a soul into another state.

☆ Associated with wisdom, intuition and divine connection, the 777 angel number is considered a powerful spiritual message. When it appears repeatedly in your life, it is a reminder that you are on the right path and that you are in tune with your purpose and mission in life.

☆ As part of the digital sound workshops I created this developmental kind of audio sketch which I then chose to further develop by distorting and enhancing the reverb as well as just experimenting with any settings which sounded appealing in order to create a more interesting audio.

Development: Gold Foil
☆ Using the video sketch from my previous video I decided to duplicate and overlay each video before changing the saturation as well as contrast before overlaying once again a video of beams of light dancing upon the gold foil sheet!
☆ I feel this imagery is very effective due to its creation of such an ethereal, spiritual ambience which I feel conveys my concept quite well!

Development: Gold Foil
☆ When thinking of the time based piece I decided to incorporate and experiment with different themes of light, shape incorporating both motifs features within my sculptural developments as well as the gold foil to develop and tie my pieces together.
☆ To create the background video I began filming through a sun-catcher decal on my window with the flash on to create and capture different reflected projections of prismatic rainbows within the glass.
☆ I then began editing and experimenting with colour and saturation within the initial base videos before overlaying a video of the gold foil swaying within the wind and reflecting light within a star shaped opacity, linking back to my 3D final piece.

☆ As I moved on to further develop my 3D maquettes, I wanted to further explore different shapes and cuttings in order to create a more interesting composition to interact with the colourful aura created within the shadows of each piece.
☆ Although each of these pieces I created felt unique in their own way, I mostly felt drawn to both of the above piece when thinking of editing work within my 3D developments before taking towards my final piece.

Development: Gold Foil & 2D into 3D
☆ Although I enjoyed creating my initial 2D to 3D inspired sculptures I still felt quite disconnected from them, I feel they did not convey what I wished to which urged me to continue to create and find more unique and conceptual ways to visually express my interpretation of the brief!
☆ As I noticed previously I deeply enjoy playing with light and reflections, therefore i decided to simplify my previous development in a more conceptual manner.
☆ I began to fold various pieces of smaller paper just to get an idea of how my fully developed pieces could look.
☆ In order to make my maquettes, I firstly folded and created interesting shapes to my liking before sticking interesting materials e.g gold foil and a variety or sticky notes/coloured paper, onto the back of my initial blank page.
☆ After researching artists such as Robert Irwin and James Turrell, I felt heavily inspired when I created and observed these maquettes as they reflected in natural lighting. I noticed each material created a very unique and interesting hue upon the walls of my studio space, appearing almost like a miniature sconce.
☆ I knew immediately that this technique is what I wanted to take forward as I feel this perfectly conveys my feelings evolutionary journey of the veil between the physical, spiritual and beyond extremely well!

Development: Gold Foil & 2D into 3D
☆ As I began to further develop my pieces of painted gold foil, I further wanted to convey each crevice and crack within my work.
☆ I began to paint cuttings of angled pieces of paper to imagine and express mapping and each spiritual body behind organic line-work, however I began to feel like it being 2D wasn’t creating that energy so I began to distort the paper into a more three dimensional object.
☆ Although I enjoyed the geometric shaped patterns I had created as they link with some of the influential artists I have researched, I still found myself craving something more, something that could only be achieved at this moment with the gold foil.
☆ The reflective dances and abstractions that the light creates I feel is the sculpture within a sculpture which is felt myself becomes deeply entranced by as I began my search of how to focus more on incorporating this aspect as the focal point within my work as I developed my 2D pieces into 3D.

Development: 2D into 3D
☆ As an initial attempt to evolve my 2D work into 3D development, I began to look at the geometric shapes within my paintings created in reference to my map developments.
☆ Using cardboard I created various cuttings, connecting them sporadically to produce a visually interesting piece.
☆ Although I felt this was a strong start to my developmental journey I immediately knew I yearned for more vivid expression in relation to the workshops as well as my chosen concepts.

Development: Gold Foil
☆ Once my thoughts on what themes I felt drawn to became more vivid, I began to make playful pieces to allow myself to process how the material may work and what kind of amusing and pleasing works I could create.
☆ I often find myself steering away from creating more low brow, comedic work however, I felt it was important that as I begin to create a spiritually based theme I wanted to incorporate playfulness as well as become spiritually connected with my work as well.
☆ It felt quite refreshing to break up the seriousness of the skull with the pink hues as well as the finishing gold foil teeth and reversed sparkle!
☆ As I really enjoyed the creation of my smaller A4 I initial piece, I decided to further enhance the aspects of my smaller work as I upscaled and further developed the piece. By creating a border as well as amplifying the ambience of the composition with some intriguing iridescent paint, I felt quite satisfied with my work as the bright natural lighting within my studio space will further magnify the illusion of the dancing light due to the iridescent paint sparkling within my 2D piece.

Development: Gold Foil
☆ When creating the initial sketch/painting for this piece I began thinking of how as humans we are stardust. Many elements within our bodies were created within the stars before the Earth was born.
☆ Within my concept I wish to explore our evolutionary fate in a conceptual way as we are born from stardust and hopefully return to our initial state when our earthly encounters come to an end.

☆ I deeply enjoy how my initial piece came out I feel it organically comes off as very aesthetically pleasing possibly due to its small scale, however the larger more developed peace, although I enjoy it I feel more drawn to the smaller version.
☆ To further enhance each piece and further convey our evolutionary journey from the stars to the astral plane, I used iridescent white paint, which when blended created a sheer quote which manipulated the eyes and distorts the view of the piece in certain lighting which I deeply enjoy as it created an interaction between the paintings and the viewer!

☆ As a further development of experimenting with the gold foil, light and organic line-work, I knew i wanted to focus on trying to capture and mimic rays of light playing with shadows and dominance within a space.
☆ I feel this piece unintentionally is quite reminiscent of heavenly ascension imagery which I found quite intriguing as I wanted to develop these visuals more!
