Project Statement
Unpredictability is a scary word. The challenge was to face the fear directly and jump into the unknown. I wanted this project to represent imperfections, embracing mistakes and accepting the way that things turn out; whether they are good or bad. Instead, I think that this project represents what happens when you are not ready to give up control. There are some pieces, while developing my artwork, that really were happy accidents and I was on the right track of the process I wanted to follow but I feel that there could have been so much more variety in the media and materials I chose to use.
Artist Statement
I try to avoid uncertainty and thrive in situations where I know exactly what is happening or is going to happen; I find comfort in routine and planning. Allowing myself to be out of control during this project meant that the sky was the limit in terms of final outcomes. By not setting limitations, I ended up seeking out familiarity and comfort in certain media. Taking my artwork in a different direction seemed like a good way to begin - like being more daring with my colour palettes. Taking more risks turned into taking one risk and wanting to create that same outcome repeatedly. I created a piece of art that I enjoyed visually and began to recreate similar images which was the opposite of what I intended to do. I’d like to be more spontaneous in my future art practice and learn to be less critical of myself and my artwork.

Final time based piece.
This was really fun to create and something I’d like to continue experimenting with. This time I was playing around with panning left and right as well as looking at warping the sounds of me tearing the tin foil. I also added the original tin foil piece to this one; it sits more in the background.

Developing on from my previous paper sounds piece, I put the individual clips in a different order to see how that would sound and did some experimenting with reverb and echo.

More foil developments. I was experimenting with the warp tool on Artrage and made some animated GIFs.

These look almost fiery and electric! So happy with these turned out - I chose the right colour.

Blue and green sweetie wrappers projected onto the tin foil triangles. The orange is from the sun shining on my closed curtains.

My process of projecting the sweetie wrapper colours onto the tin foil. I needed my phone flashlight, so, I took the actual images with my digital camera.

Toshihiko Mitsuya - The Aluminium Garden - Structural Studies of Plants (2015)
Mitsuya is a Japanese artist who creates sculptures out of tin foil. In the image above, he has cut and folded tin foil into 180 individual plants. I think tin foil is a fun medium to work in. I enjoy the reflections, how it shines and the way you can mould and shape it. However, it can be difficult to work with in terms of being detailed and that it is why Mitsuya's work is so impressive.

I decided to curve the foil triangles in order to give them more dimension.

I made some tear drop shapes out of tin foil with Wolfgang Tilmans in mind. I love the reflection of the foil against the paper background. There's always something unexpected, something serendipitous about my artworks so far.

I was thinking about the way the foil blanket folded and was drawn to the sharper lines and decided to make some triangular tin foil pieces. I hoped to give the vibe of sharp shards of glass? Not sure how successful I was but I also placed them strategically and then let them fall out of my hand and bundled them up together.
