All about the dark web!
Welcome my fellow human beings! Today I would be blogging about the Dark Web and its impaction on youths. You must be wondering what the Dark Web is. Is it a black spider web? Haha nooo! The Dark Web is a worldwide web that exists on darknets, overlay networks which uses the public Internet but requires specific software to access which are often use to conduct illegal activities. Phew! That was a lot! Basically the Dark Web uses a software which allows people to conduct untraceable activities (mostly illegal) anonymously!
Whattt? Yeap, such things does exist! All people had to do was to install an encryption tools (common ones would be Tor or I2P). With these tools you can hide your identity, and spoof your locations! Depending on what you want to do on the Dark Web, there are specific websites for it, these websites are known and can be searched on Google!
As fascinating as it sounds, many teenagers today has access to this platform and are able to obtain items that might put their lives at risk!

A gateway for illegal activities
There are numerous illegal activities that are conducted on the Dark Web because of it’s untraceable factor.
Most common ones around teenagers are sales of pornography, counterfeit IDs, E-cigarettes and hacking services. While activities such as sales of drugs, weapons, organs and hitman services are less common. These statistics were generated from a survey that I did in school among 20 teens, many of which felt that such activities are least dangerous than the sales of weapons, drugs and so on! Therefore, teens are more likely to commit such offences thinking that it is less severe and dangerous.
It is true that it is less dangerous, but many are unaware that such activities are also illegal and if caught their future might be tarnished!

Impacts on YOU my friends!
Although the Dark Web can be an advantage for scholars and scientists due to the vast information available, it can also pose as a threat to lives of people. Teens has easy access to drug dealers that ply their trade on the dark web. Not only does this accessibility cause addictions, it can also cause death of teens themselves or their love ones!
In addition, many teens might be lured into committing an illegal act out of curiosity. In an interview I did, the interviewee did state that her friends started to do drugs because they heard about others obtaining drugs from the Dark Web and wanted to try it themselves. Everyone at one point of their lives had gave in to curiosity and did something whether illegal or not. However, on the Dark web, teenagers can be exposed to videos of sickening child pornography, human slavery videos, animal abuse, raping and murdering videos. These acts may spark curiosity. More importantly, if viewed by a young boy or girl, their mind-set might be set that these activities are okay!
Lastly, I bet many of you guys have heard about the recent terrorist attacks that has been happening around the world. It has been found that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria(ISIS) group had set up a propaganda website on the dark web. They used this sites to broadcast terrors and to manipulate people into joining the group. With this, terrorist activities will continue to increase!

Dealing with it
As individuals, we can help spread awareness on the dangers and also to refrain from participating on the Dark Web activities. Some of you guys might have heard about the famous hacking group known as Anonymous. The hacktivists had release a video in October 2015 announcing their intentions to stop and prevent further attacks from ISIS. Although illegal activities on the Dark Web are not traceable, governments around the world has been putting in efforts by blocking access to such sites. This “secret society” has been a huge controversy over the years, I feel that it can cause dangers to my fellow friends. So peers, do your part! Spread awareness of the dangers, reblog this post! Also share with me your opinions! Do you think it’s a threat to you? Or is it seen as an advantage to you and the society?
