this probably isn't anything new but the scene at the end of chapter 4 with drunk toriel and sans is really something else. like, every single person i've seen play that scene has burst out laughing when they first see it, and then slowly that's changed into like. oh jeez. poor kris. and it's such an unsettling shift of emotion -- you end up feeling sort of weird for laughing, even though the game is obviously going for that exact effect. It's such a subtle but insanely effective way to emphasize our disconnect with Kris. oouuaaaghhh!

Deltarune Prediction:

Okay less of a prediction and more of an idea that maybe someone with greater artistic skill than me could bring to life:

The final prophecy predicts the Knight creating a fountain inside Castle Town and, instead of creating a titan out of nothing, it transforms Ralsei into one.

let it be clear i am going to bat for this terrible horrible no good terrifying rotten icicle of a woman like no one has ever gone to bat for a fictional woman before. this is reparations for every single mid ass morally gray man who got woobified because he was sad once. woman you suck so bad. i can see the toxic grief eating at you from the inside, core to rind. i see the terror and obsession behind your ruthlessness. carol holiday i would kill for you and you would probably try to find some use for that which is great and precisely why i love you

Deltarune has given us a lot of striking images, but Susie touching Ralsei's face in a gesture of forgiveness and leaving a bloody handprint on his cheek because she punched a stained-glass window might just take the cake in terms of getting thematically freaky with it.

One thing I really liked about her introduction here is how well she's established to be antagonistic, but realistically so. One thing that a lot of fan works struggled with IMO was making Carol just an asshole for no reason, but not here

Because, regardless of any ulterior motives she probably has (assuming she was the one on the phone), her behavior in this scene is very believable and I think very appropriate given what she walked in on.

So yeah. Amazing scene.

This. This scene right here. This is the scene that made me fall in love with Carol Holiday as a villain/antagonist. Not because this shows that she's got sympathetic qualities, but because it adds so many layers to her UNsympathetic qualities.

She really had us fooled with the warm look and the way she placed her hand on Kris's shoulder that there was some humanity in her, but as the scene unfolded, it only served to make her that much more sinister.

It's very intriguing that out of all the courses of action she could have taken with Kris, she APOLOGIZES to them. But it's not a genuine demonstration of remorse, as with many people who don't take accountability, she doesn't actually say what she feels sorry for. It's something rather more along the lines of "I'm sorry you felt that way" or "I'm sorry if how I treated Noelle made you uncomfortable."

SHE'S NOT SORRY FOR HOW SHE TREATED NOELLE, BUT RATHER "SORRY" IF SHE ENDED UP MAKING KRIS MORE LIKELY TO END WHATEVER THEY HAVE BETWEEN THEM.

I doubt she's a full-on psychopath and sees Kris only as nothing more than an instrument to be manipulated, but you cannot deny that the relationship she has with Kris is very VERY TWISTED regardless if there is any genuine attachment or care behind it.

And it makes her the best damn antagonist in the entire game.
