Finnick could almost pretend they were a couple friends commiserating about a job on the docks, if only Jo’s voice wasn’t quite so controlled. 

“Not as bad as last year,” he says, glad he can answer honestly.

“Still bad then,” Johanna mutters. She tucks her head against his shoulder, moving her arms so that they’re slung loosely in front of him. It’s almost a hug, but if Finnick were to point that out she’d probably kick him hard enough to wreck whatever’s left of his reproductive system, so he keeps his mouth shut.

how good do you think Nott’s disguise self was when they met Yeza in the dungeon? do you think she was a perfect copy of her old body — maybe even too perfect? more like she walked out of a painting than standing right there. like the pure concept of Veth Brenatto distilled into the image of a woman come back from the dead to save her husband

or do you think she got a few details wrong. you know how self perception is, you never look quite the same as you think you do. face just a little too round, a little off shape; eyes a little too dark, skin a little too pale, hair just a bit the wrong texture. details only a loving husband would notice

do you think the goblin body almost made more sense to Yeza than the illusion of his wife?

i gotta say, as someone who grew up ashamed of liking “frivolous” media and writing fanfic, especially when it got in the way of me being “productive,” learning that Madame Loathing was self-loathing and that she hid away Elias Hodge’s abandoned interests hit a little too hard

I've seen posts from new critters assume that the Briarwoods were fairly normal nobles before Delilah turned to the Whispered One to save Sylas and while that would give a deliciously tragic undertone to their villainy I DO need everyone to know that Delilah was part of an elite wizard oligarchy that had a long standing tradition of doing fucked up unethical experiments on children And those same wizards still exiled the Briarwoods for being Too Evil

i have. so many kingsley thoughts. the way that he doesn’t have molly’s love of bullshit, of whim and fancy, seemingly to the point where he’s covering up all of molly’s tattoos in his new art. conversely, he has lucien’s venom, so much more direct and cutting in his comments than molly ever seemed to be. where molly seemed to say things entirely in jest, kingsley says them with an edge of truth, just pointed enough for it to sting a little. just like lucien, he’s frustrated with the way fjord runs things, so clearly eager to implement a better system, a better way of running things. kingsley likes order, doesn’t like taking chances or rolling dice, the exact opposite of molly.

but kingsley is not cruel in the way that lucien was. he has molly’s kindness and care for the people around him. he looks out for the crew’s well-being when fjord and jester are trying to deal with the major problem at hand, connects with them on a personal level and becomes their friend.

and even more than all of that, kingsley is brimming with curiosity. he’s heard all the stories of the mighty nein’s adventures from jester, he’s just full of wonder and delight and eagerness to see what it’s like for himself. to make a place for himself within the group. to make a place for himself in the world.

he’s not quite lucien. not quite molly. he’s kingsley, and i fucking LOVE him

I'm legit just TICKLED by Fjord's hair length history because it's:

Feels a deep sense of belonging within the Tide's Breath crew — grows hair long, almost but not quite touching his shoulders

Loses literally everything when the ship sinks, panics in his sense of identity and borrows Vandran's — cuts hair short

Starts to come into his own, ultimately breaks his pact and develops a sense of purpose and steadiness — grows hair long, can French braid it now

Struggles in his independence and approaches what will be the rest of his life with anxiety and uncertainty — cuts hair short, though not as short as before

Settles well into his post-adventuring life, absolutely flourishing, living his best sexy life — grows hair long, past shoulders

Fjord is CLEARLY very much someone who lets his hair get long when he's thriving and reaches for the scissors whenever he has an identity crisis and feels he's losing control of his life. The length of his hair is absolutely an indicator of his comfort with himself and his life. I'm cackling about it. I love that so much.

everyone talks about "where's your bulb now" but no one talks about the lead up. getting to be alone in the room with keradin because he used his status as primogen to intimidate grissini into leaving his post, getting a 20+ on deception to trick keradin into thinking he was gonna free him from his chains so he would spill that he worked with alfredi, slapping that carrot right in the face as soon as he got what he needed, immediately convincing grissini to arrest alfredi with, again, a 20+ persuasion. lapin cadbury your hand in marriage
