These are dual layer cotton fabrics that are handmade by Katie and come with ribbon or elastic for the ears. When you’re done wearing them, throw them in the washing machine for tomorrow! There are a wide variety of fabric patterns to choose from (or just “show black” fabric, if you’re like me) as well as different colored ribbon. You can even order reversible masks with two different patterns! These are great replacements for disposable surgical masks and cloth rectangular masks that are being sold currently. All regular masks masks come with a filter pocket as well if you want to add another layer of protection to this dual cotton cloth mask. Reversible masks don’t come with the filter pocket. Thanks to Kent and Adam Ohler for letting me not only light but be a part of their most recent wetplate photography project! The result was this beauty which was the first try in a series and my personal favorite photo of the shoot. We couldn’t have done it without the help and support of Nadji Films in Houston and their wonderful new location. What a terrific day today! I got to be the Gaffer and Camera Assistant to wetplate Photographers Kent Ohler and Adam Ohler. Thanks to Nadji Films for providing a safe shooting space and Grip / Electric gear for this shoot! Also thanks to Cathrine Jacobs for helping both photo and grip assist! I really got to knock the rust off my Gaffing skills after two months of not working, while also adapting modern Cinema style lighting and camera techniques to an ancient camera system, all while practicing social distancing in a set environment! I also learned today that wetplate photography reacts very well to HMIs and poorly to LEDs. They must need the spectrum of light emitted by HMIs, which is similar to full spectrum sunlight. Interesting! Day 4 of my Shelter in Place Project. Every once in a while a location really lends itself to good lighting. Thanks to our of towners, Zion Films for finding this one right under my nose in Dallas in the basement of the Statler Hotel. I had a blast lighting this setup with Key Grip Brian Stitt and G/E Swing Kyle Cruciger. Day 3 of my Shelter in Place Project. Earlier this year I was fortunate to be asked to be the Gaffer for a Kingsford Charcoal shoot at home in Houston. It was a beautiful day with hundreds of people coming out for some wonderful and free grilling food. It was the last time I went to a public event. There wasn’t really to much to light, but there we plenty of things that needed diffusion or shadow. All in all, a great day at work. Day 2 of my Shelter In Place Project After wondering if I should sell all my Timelapse gear due to a slowdown of Timelapse jobs I got referred to one right before the Corona virus was widely talked about. It turned out to be quite the job timelapsing the construction of an outdoor gala tent for a multi-million dollar wedding. The job was supposed to only be for three days but ended up going for 8 straight as production went back and forth about shutting down. Finally the wedding was suspended when the shelter in place order was about to be issued and we were sure there would be no wedding any time soon. It was a great project and many thanks to HBO for keeping it going and also letting me enlist the help of fellow photographer Kent Ohler, who really made it possible to cover the event setup properly. Without him I would have been running around having a tough time and not being able to achieve an average of 9-10 Timelapses a day. Unfortunately the only pic I have of him with me on the job was having a parking lot lunch outside of Freebirds with my love Katie joint us. I miss being outside all day with my buddy taking photoshop I don’t however, miss the pollen. Thanks again to Olivia Oppenheim for referring me on this one! I owe ya one! I usually have a bunch of work photos I never post. It’s mostly due to laziness, but when I was working there wasn’t enough time in the day. So my shelter-in-place project is posting photos of all the jobs and people I wish I was working with and not having enough time to post them. These are from the last job I worked with some of my favorite people, 1820 productions. The shoot was super fortunate because it happened after everyone started panicking and before everyone canceled work. It’s also super fortunate because I got to work with the amazing combo team of DP Daniel Routh, Director Korey Miller, Producer Sara Madsen Miller, Key Grip Brian Stitt, Best Swing Jerry Patin, Production Designer Winona Yu, and AC Andrew Newton. Some stills from the Frito Lay set I gaffed this weekend. Major props to DP Brandon Zebell for collaborating to make a beautiful saturated color gradient for these dual sets. It was a complex shoot with both Stills and Video shooting simultaneously and only myself and Key Grip Brian Stitt switching back and forth to tweak lighting in between setups.
