The Black American family has endured centuries of trauma, loss, and spiritual attacks. Our bloodline carries curses of death, sickness, poverty, barrenness, imprisonment, and brokenness, which have tried to block our blessings and spiritual power. One of the most misunderstood truths about Hoodoo is that it is not a generic magic anyone can borrow. It is intimately tied to your specific bloodline—because every Black American’s heritage is unique. Not all Black Americans descend from enslaved people; some come from lines of slave owners (both Black and white), indentured servants, seducers, scammers, and many other histories. Our bloodlines are complex and heavily mixed, but also distinct.

When Clout Becomes Currency: The Mishandling of Black Trust and Money

It breaks my heart to say this, but I’m deeply disgusted.

Not just by the situation, but by the pattern I see over and over again in our community: emotional manipulation, poor financial decisions, and the exploitation of Black empathy — all under the disguise of “help.”

Recently, a prominent Black family — the family of Karmelo Anthony — raised over half a million dollars, allegedly for their son’s legal fees. The community gave out of love, grief, solidarity, and trust. But now, they’re claiming they can’t even afford a lawyer. The money is gone. And they’re asking for more.

What happened?

We watched them flaunt material items, throw parties, and chase a lifestyle that looked good for the ‘Gram, but had no legacy. And now, they expect more from the very people they disrespected — emotionally, spiritually, and financially.

This Isn’t Just About One Family. It’s a Symptom of a Bigger Issue.

Too often, we let emotions guide our giving instead of discernment. We treat public sympathy as a free ATM. We choose clout over clarity, style over strategy. And while our ancestors fought tooth and nail to protect what little they had, we blow opportunities in the name of image.

Let me be clear: this isn’t about judging anyone’s grief. But accountability is not judgment — it’s love.

You cannot demand community support and then disrespect the community’s sacrifice.

Our Ancestors Moved with Purpose, Not Pity.

Our ancestors didn’t brag about abortion. They didn’t throw their children off on other people. They raised their babies, loved them, and protected them — even in bondage.
