Walter Scott was laid to rest Saturday in a ceremony that drew hundreds of mourners in Summerville, South Carolina.

Scott’s death at the hands of North Charleston police office Michael Slager drew nationwide outrage after a cell phone video revealed Slager had repeatedly shot the 50-year-old black man in the back…

According to The Guardian, pastor George Hamilton told attendees that Scott’s death was the result of “overt racism” by Slager and advised them to “keep your phone handy; keep your charge up. You never know when you need to be around.”
