Please keep in mind that Mister Neal, while clearly African-American by nationality, is of Ghanan and Nigerian descent while Misses Neal bears royal British roots; that’s why she bore no surname before her marriage.

Are residents required to have jobs and/or attend the school, and separately, what’s the time current residents should wait before sending another application?

it’s definitely RECOMMENDED. One of the biggest elements of getting to live in this safe haven is doing one’s part and helping the town operate smoothly. There’s really only one exception outside of being too young or being too old to be inactive; being severely (physically, mentally, and/or emotionally) unfit to do any labor.

As for the second bit, current residents are more than welcome to apply for more muses at any time so long as they fully believe they are capable of maintaining activity among all muses.

We actually just added musicians and performers through the Hunting Club, and we’re planning to add a house band for Bayou Barn if you want to bring us some members! Outside of the natural healing properties in saliva since that’s a natural tic of many different animals, no. While typically featured in modern media, we’ve opted for the more traditional approach where they are just as prone to injury as other mortals outside of transformation! Of course, should the animal naturally have thicker hides or scales, they are at an advantage~

I did read through the section on Werebeasts, but I just wanted some clarification if that's okay! A human can be turned into a werebeast by bite -- and they get whatever "animal" the one who was that bit them, is that correct?

That’s perfectly fine, you’re welcome to ask away! Yes, you’re absolutely correct. For example, if Elijah were to bite someone, they would also become a gray wolf or a canine with similar characteristics; be it a different species of wolf, or perhaps a coyote or husky.

what makes a werebeast and shifter that specific type of animal?

With werebeasts, they possess a unique virus that basically holds copies of two types of DNA; that of their human self, and that of their animal form. If they’re turned into a werebeast, they will inherit a similar, if not the same, animal as their master. If they are born with the infliction, they’re not quite guaranteed to hold onto the animal designated to them at birth even though their parent(s) possess that form! They can perform a “ritual” that involves hunting, skinning, then donning the hide of the animal which they desire the traits of so that their skin absorbs the physical appearance of the shape the werebeast wants to take on. In order to obtain the genetic make-up and complete the process, however, they must make sure to drink the blood of the animal as well. (I know, it’s morbid, but it’s the way of the beast.)

With shifters, it’s a very different process. They are a species that descends from magic users and, in fact, were once classified as a subspecies of wixen until a hundred years ago! They choose the animal at which they want to imitate and have to meticulously study their behavior. In fact, with the two present in our town right now, they obtained their forms from the animals they best love: Lady Neal with the appaloosa horse, Santiago with the mountain lion. Our version of shifters can be best associated with skin-walkers.

Can a werebeast or vampire have been another race before being turned, like a wixen?

Oh, definitely. Given that those two races are disease-based, it’s perfectly sound logic for someone of another species to have been infected and made into one of them! The only races that that wouldn’t apply to are angels, demons, ghosts, and mutants since they all are unable to harbor the disease.

what is it like when a supernatural creature becomes a mutant?

Given the nature of the virus mutating one’s ability to use aura/magic, I think it’s safe to say that their new powers replace their original abilities - the same case as with ghosts! I will say that, however, they may possess residual forms of their former prowess for a small amount of time; let’s say about a week before it completely fades away and is replaced by their newfound ones.
