But did he?
It’s really late so I’m not going to deep into it, but a lot of theologians believe Paul was actually talking about one specific church (especially cause he complements female preachers in other letters) and that it was a Situation that this specific church would have understood (there are multiple theories, one being that the women were just too hyped to finally participate in equal worship that they were interrupting at inappropriate times, because they hadn’t been allowed in worship areas before)
The real villain, is people taking Paul’s letters to specific communities in specific situations and making them more important that the words of Jesus Christ himself.
Sometimes I think about how arguably one of the major themes in the New Testament is to listen and believe women.
The first act of the New Testament is believing Mary when she explains the virgin birth.
Women were trusted to preach the good news that Jesus rose from the dead.
The woman caught in ‘adultery’ (which some scholars believe was non-consensual) was spared.
The woman at the well is arguably the first person to go out of preach in the name of Jesus.
All this to say: Women are meant to be listened to. They are meant to preach. They are meant to be equal, not subordinate.

I sent my message before I noticed your pin post. I now know you’re against any criticism regarding your “Christianity”. All I can see is that you’re playing at Christian.
Sometimes I can tell by the way people act that their God and mine aren’t the same. This person sent me multiple messages, saw my pinned post, and sent me this one.
I could go off but instead I will just say this: God literally commanded us to mind our business.

Person: No one should be religious. The world would be better without it.
Me: So you think the world would be better if everyone had the same beliefs as you?
Person: On this topic, yes.
Me: So you want to essentially create a monoculture, getting rid of millions of different traditions from all over the world, because you personally think everyone else would be better off without religion. I’m sorry but that’s like a textbook colonizing mindset.
Person: Your one to talk. You’re literally Christian.
Me: I’ve deconstructed my beliefs. I don’t think everyone should be Christian, and I don’t believe in enteral suffering under God either. Just because my religion has a history of colonialism and forcing beliefs doesn’t mean I want to continue that trend and it certainly doesn’t mean I want to trade one version of that for another.

I genuinely like dressing modestly, but gosh darn if I don’t hate people ‘praising’ me for it.
Like if you say something like “You give me outfit inspo! The way you view veiling connects with me, maybe I will try it out” Then thanks! Love it!
But if you praise me because you think I’m following some magical dress code set by God and you think I’m better than other people because of how I dress… thanks I hate that. Makes me want to wear booty shorts to spite you actually.
Like guys, I dress modestly because it’s what I’m most comfortable in. I decided to tie religion a long with my dress because why not? God is in everything we do. I veil because I view it as a reminder, not a commandment.
Anyways, God has no magical dress code. Modesty isn’t requirement. And hot people don’t ascribe value to people based on what they wear.

Also the fact that only like… one or two notes even mentioned biblical heaven. So many notes are like “Actually my flavor of Puritanism will get me _____” and it’s just their replacement of heaven. Once again proving my point.
So many of y’all didn’t deconstruct. You just stopped believing in God. Now you have the ideology of a puritan but you don’t even think you get eternal life at the end of it.

Jesus reading this after being executed because he advocated against the colonial government:
Tumblr media
If you're going to be a Christian you need to acknowledge its history of violence and colonization so you do not continue the violence!!!!

Today we celebrate a brown man, whose people were second class citizens, that conquered death. Who rose from the grave after being publicly executed because he spoke out against a colonial government.
His legacy and resurrection have inspired countless rebellions and revolutionaries. Jesus Christ has been a guiding teacher for so many activists.
So today, do not sanitize his death. Remember it as a revolutionary act.

the problem with the lovely bubble of lefty christianity on here is that i'll forget for a moment that a crude ton of the rest of the church is not okay with basic human decency and liberation theology and love of the poor. and then i'll go into the tags.
whoops
