being “different” is a lifetime of people telling that they hate me without trying to understand me. being “different” is very isolating until i find community with other “different” people and realize my experiences are not that exceptionally strange, that other people can relate to me and i can relate to them. there is power in realizing that we’re not as alone as we think, because we can’t be excluded anymore by those who want us powerless. being “different” is realizing i’m not that different and i’m not alone and i’m not powerless. it’s being arm in arm with someone and telling the world you can hate us all you want, but we’re not going anywhere.

I post a lot about recovery and working on ourselves, and those are good things! But I just want to take a moment to say that you have value as you are right now. No matter where you are in your recovery journey. Even if you haven’t started. You have value as you are now.

I’ve been trying to remind myself that I’m not useless when I’m sick. I’m not unlovable when I’m sick. I’m not worthless. I’m just a person that happens to be sick. My life is not doomed because of it. I won’t be left all alone because of it. And maybe you need this reminder too.

We all want to connect and there might be someone out there waiting to connect to you to be your friend. Your friendship is important. You can be a good friend. You can have friendships that are like found families. You will find a group of people who treats you well by who you are, not who you could be or do for them.

y’all remind yourselves your account is your space. you’re not a performance. you’re not annoying by being yourself. if people aren’t into it they can leave. you’re not obligated to please anyone, especially at the cost of your personal expression. the worst thing you can do for your online enjoyment is to filter or censor yourself.

unavoidable that you will be the villain in someone else's story. You will be painted in an unfavorable light. You will be the irredeemable one. and all of this will happen despite how nice you might usually be or how kind or how respectful or how warm. and you will just have to move on.

To those who were told by their friends, cousins and everyone who saw the “good” side of your parents and/or guardians how amazing they were when the reality behind closed doors was drastically different, you are so valid. You weren’t making it up. You deserved better.

Just a note that it’s still crossing boundaries if you’re doing it as a “joke”.
By this, I mean things like messing up someone’s organization because you think their distress isn’t serious and it’s funny to get a rise out of them. Or things like using a nickname someone has asked you not to use because you think it’s funny.
You’re not funny. It’s actually a really shitty thing to do. It’s not up to you to decide how valid or real someone’s distress is. If they tell you to stop, then stop.

It’s cool. Take a shower. Open the windows to let in fresh air even if it’s cold out. Listen to the wind rustling the leaves & the people walking and chatting. Clean something random to see that you can make a difference through action. This too shall pass
