The Present from Jacob Frey on Vimeo.
After a very successful festival circuit, running on over 180 film festivals and winning more than 50 awards, we’ve decided that it’s finally time to share “The Present” with the rest of the world.
“The Present” is based on a great little comic strip by the very talented Fabio Coala.
Make sure to check out his page: mentirinhas.com.br
“The Present” is a graduation short from the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany.
We really hope you enjoy the result of our hard work. Thanks to everyone who help creating this film and everyone who supported us during the festivals. Thanks a lot for making this such an incredible journey.

I can’t believe I’m coming back to tumblr because I need to write something ‘publicly’ without still ‘publicly’ outing myself to certain people...
It just sucks that I never really felt like I wanted to be a part of the whole “manhood” thing, and so kept feeling like other’s thought I was doing it wrong. And yet, because I’m still so scared to fully explore my queerness, I feel like those who identify as queer see me as someone who doesn’t get it, or is doing it wrong, or isn’t actually a part of the community, or shouldn’t speak with any opinionated ‘authority’ on certain things within the community...
Fuck, I don’t know..
How do you search for an identity when you still feel trapped in the world of the one you grew up in? How do you explore your identity when you’re still afraid of the expectations everyone, who knew(“know”) you as your born gender, has for how you are to look, act, and exist as? How do you act with any confidence in yourself when you’re petrified with paranoid fears of what both cis-society and the queer community will think of you?
I’m at a point where everyone spits out “you’re not alone”, and yet I’ve never felt more alone in my life.

Paris / New York from MATEL on Vimeo.
Paris & NY, like many large cities, have a lot in common ; transport, infrastructure, national monuments. I wanted to explore not only these comparisons but also the differences, in order to expose the beauty and individuality of each. What you cannot deny is the vibrancy and explosion of character each city has and I thought split-screen with timelapse would be a good way to help convey this.

Distraction from Stephen Schuster on Vimeo.
A young writer. A prostitute. An old desert motel. All stories need an ending and all endings need a beginning.
"Distraction" is a short film noir that focuses on the fragile psyche of a writer who's sole desire is to finish his screenplay while learning that the beginning is always easier to write than the end.
