Chapter Four
An Azriel x Sabrina Carpenter Story
-2470 words-
Tags: Light Cursing, Suggestiveness

Azriel had been busy lately, with the mission and all. So far, it's been three days of him investigating the border and not going to the coffee shop. He decided that the sooner he finished this task, the sooner he could go back to Sabrina and her amazing choice of drinks.
Now, this was him being hopeful, and he knew that if the mission required it, he would stay as long as needed. He cared for his home and his work as the court's spy, but he had also grown to care for Sabrina, and his devotion to work wouldn't stop the aching in his chest.
Currently, he was looking through files of people that went through the border and people that worked there. Everyone was forced to identify themselves when crossing for organization purposes. Right now, he needed to know if he recognized anything out of place to locate any possible threats.
The crew had seemed ingenuous enough, although they did have their flaring personalities, and Azriel decided to trust his overworked gut. There were some whispers of curiosity, nosiness, but his shadows were keeping an eye out.
He had already questioned some people in charge, some people who saw everything or everyone that may have passed here, and checked the grounds. He and his shadows made sure to be thorough, searching the nooks and crannies of this base.
Today was all about the profiles of who was passing through and finding whatever threat there may be. That's when he felt the unmistakable swarm of control over his mind.
"Sorry brother, I could not make it all the way to you- in person at least." Rhys always says something along the lines of an apology/warning when entering any one of the inner circle's mind. "What's going on?" Azriel questioned him through his thoughts, wondering if there had been an update and he could get back home. "I sense your urgency for home Az, but I need you there only for one more day. This hasn't gone through any proper channels yet but Chappell needs your assistance."
Azriel was quick to reply, "She's completed her performances, right. Won't Mor be with her? I understand her requiring protection anywhere, but why now as she's crossing back into Velaris?" Of course Azriel had developed his sixth sense, but if Rhys could give him the answer, it would cost him less.
"Have you found everything fine there at the border?" Rhys asked him, reading his thoughts. "From the surface and the rest that l've peeled back, everything is stable.
Nothing has necessarily pointed to Hewn City, if that's what you're referring to." He inquired to Rhys, to which he responded, "I understand, but based off our recent relations and interactions, we can assume they're planning something. You know their disdain towards Mor, and how much they wouldn't mind getting their hands on both her and Chappell."
"Of course. I'll stay until they get back, and I'll make sure they cross with no issues." Rhys then sent one final message to Azriel. "And if there is one, make sure to report back so we can deal with it properly. I shall see you when this is done, brother." Azriel could recognize the underlying tone of his brother, a caring one, even if disguised as dutiful.

It had been days since she'd seen Azriel, not that she had started to worry, it just seemed odd. She'd last seen him four days ago, when she'd chosen a smoothie for him to try. He would often complain (as much as you could imagine Azriel complain) about only having caffeine, so she decided to go with something else. Though maybe he'd just end up crying to me about the sugar.
Sabrina let out a light laugh as she walked to the bar. At least she could finally see Chappell again tomorrow. She didn't actually have to go into work at the shop tomorrow, but they had all planned to meet there. Olerva was pretty sad about having to work the day Chappell got back, as if she isn't the manager.
Anyways, Sabrina wasn't particularly upset that she had to go to the coffee shop on her day off. She'd get to see Chappell! And maybe Az too. She didn't want to miss him if he came by tomorrow, after all, he didn't know her schedule. Woah. Okay she didn't mean to assume that he was even going to the shop because of her but, it wasn't an unwarranted idea, right?
♡---♡
She had been having a normal shift. Basic even, less drunken arguments than usual.
Someone did get kicked out for harassing someone else, but it was so standard that Sabrina didn't even bother watching. What was happening right now, however, was not normal. Very out of the ordinary that her ex boyfriend steps into her workplace, gets drunk, and then stumbles over to her.
Proceeding with a slurred, "Baby, ya- ya know you're the best right?" Sabrina set down the half-empty tray she was holding on the edge of the bar. "Barry, I don't care. Leave me alone, go back to your buddies." Sabrina let out an exasperated sigh, hoping he would just leave her alone.
Much to her disappointment, he continued. "mm Sab- i'm sorry. Nobody's here, everyone left me. miss ya." He was pouting at her, leaning against the bar. I'm not stupid enough to believe that anymore, idiot.
"Listen. I'm done, I don't even have to explain myself to you. But I'm not gonna start lying to myself for you again, you've done enough. I can't trust you anymore, and all you're chances are up!" Even as Sabrina raised her voice, she felt drowned by the ambience of the bar. She didn't even know why she was trying to reason with him right now, it's not like he's paying attention.
"C'monnn... don't be like that Sab." Sabrina decided to block out his pleas, figuring he was drunk enough to forget about her if she just ignored him. Hell, he forgot about her even when they were dating. Not responding to him, she reached for the tray. "HEY!" Inhaling sharply, she witnessed the tray crash onto the floor as the male next to her shouted and knocked the tray off the bar before she could get to it.
The sound of glass shattering and yelling must've caught the attention of the security (two buff dudes with their arms crossed at the entrance) because the next thing she felt was a hand on her shoulder moving her towards a booth.
Her hearing was muffled, she really didn't expect him to do that. Blankly, she and countless other guests stared at the scene before her. A nasty male drunkenly spouting curses while being dragged and tossed outside. Also promptly rushing away after a growl came from one of the bouncers.
Sabrina's manager allowed her to leave after that, her shift ending soon anyway. That night, she went home cautiously, thinking of her bed and how she possibly could've been in love with that male before. He had never done something like that before. Been a dick, sure, but never violent.
♡---♡
The next morning, Sabrina realized that she at least had something to look forward to that day. Seeing Chappell again and the "coffee crew" (as Olerva had lovingly named it) hanging out together again would be just what she needed.
She also wanted to learn more from Chappell, since she was having trouble producing her music. The lyrics were no problem to her, and the music she created in her mind was great, but she didn't know how to make it a reality.
Throughout the years, she's written several songs to experiences and stories she likes to tell. Recently, she had gotten some new material. In fact, the first thing she did when she got home last night was pull out her journal to write something new in it.
This journal reflected her frustrations and passions and other feelings that she couldn't seem to express as well through only conversation. It was an outlet, and lately, she'd been needing it a lot.
Anyways, this morning, Sabrina made sure to dress up nicer than usual. She was ready for a night on the town, with her curled bangs and rosy, glowing makeup. She also donned short and thick, black heels with white calf-highs; A baby blue, thigh-length skirt and a dark-blue jean belt adorned with a heart buckle; And a matching baby blue, spaghetti strap tank top accompanied by a baggy jean jacket. She also found a light blue headband and some heart shaped earrings. The wonders thrifting clothes does!
Making her way out the door, she headed towards the coffee shop with a fresh feeling.
She was seeing her friend again, having fun and looking pretty. Sabrina just hoped that being in the coffee shop without Az wouldn't be too distracting. Either way, it's not like she'd be spending all day there. Walking through her colorful city, past all the vendors, she was more excited than she had been in a while.

The previous day had been interesting, but not bad, just as he had hoped. Azriel had waited for Chappell and Mor to cross, and nothing had interrupted them. However, there had been some whispers, not rumors, but a vibe. An instinct that Azriel knew he might have to follow sometime soon.
He let Rhys know about this, but overall, it was good to know that the couple was safe. With a sigh of relief, Azriel welcomed the pair and escorted them back to their home in the heart of Velaris.
"Azriell!" Mor's sing-songy voice reached his ears, and he knew that he'd be tuckered out after this meeting. "Hey Mor." Az raised his head in a nod towards the female following close behind. "Roan." Chappell smiled at him and continued listening in on whatever Mor was yapping about.
Thing is, Azriel and Chappell had certain understanding. They both love Mor, one way or another, and they seem to respect the other's need to - protect her - in a way. So through smiles and nods, they communicate to each other, in essence, what is simply known as Mor.
Through the rest of this whole ordeal, Azriel trailed behind the two and their boisterous conversation. He was fine just being in their company, and wasn't planning on being dragged into this new topic.
"Hey Az?" Mor suddenly asked. Azriel raised his head, humming in response. "You wanna come with us to see Chappell's friend? They're meeting at this coffee shop. I'm pretty sure it's close to Rita's."
Azriel stuttered in his movement at the mention of a coffee shop near Rita's. Chappell then chimed in, "Yea, Sab works at Rita's too so-" Azriel cut in. "Of course." He may have said that a bit more passionately than he should have, but he brushed it off by clearing his throat.
"..Okayy then." Mor and Chappell glanced at each other, both slightly thrown off.
Particularly Mor, as she thought Az would have no problem leaving them as soon as he dropped them off. And as they made their way to the shop, the pair realized that Azriel knew his way perfectly to the coffee shop.

After getting to the shop, Sabrina was pleased to know that Olerva had summoned her manager powers to give herself the day off. What a surprise. Right now, they were sitting at the corner table next to the windows and flowery bushes. Talking casually, Olerva describes her most recent rendezvous with the delivery guy. Incredibly detailed.
Don't get Sabrina wrong, she wasn't complaining, she just thought Olerva might be using an incredibly loud voice for this quiet coffee shop.
"You know what, hell yea, Ol." As Olerva was laughing, a chime rang. The bell on the door, revealing a bundle of familiar faces. "Hey! It's them Olerva." Smiling, Sabrina drags her friend toward the.. trio?
Suddenly, Sab lost the feeling in her legs, and it was now Olerva dragging Sabrina towards Chappell. It was him. Though he was behind them, his stature and the outline of his wings gave him away
Now Sabrina was overjoyed, reuniting with one of her best friends and seeing Az again filled her heart in a way it hadn't been for a long time. The three girls hugged each other as Mor and Azriel stood back, watching their smiles and laughs. "What's with that look on your face?" Mor said, scanning Azriel's gaze. "Oh. Mor you'll have to be specific."
"Don't pretend. You look all soft and dazed and- frankly, weird." Dragging his eyes to Mor's, Az said, "I guess it's nice to be back here after being at the border. It's so... dull there." Though Mor sensed there was something more, she couldn't say anything as Chappell pulled her into the group of girls.
They welcomed Mor, Olerva and Sabrina excitedly talking to her about the tour and her relationship with Chappell. After all, they were happy to finally get a good chance to talk to their best friend's girlfriend.
Soon enough, Chappell remembered the male standing patiently beside them. "Oh!And this is Mor's friend." Mor was quick to chime in, "Right! This is Azriel, the court's spymaster." Bringing him into the bunch, Azriel was quick to adjust so that his wings wouldn't send one of them slinging through the glass windows. It was when Mor was moving Chappell out of the way and Olerva was eyeing Azriel that Sabrina and him locked eyes.
"Az." Sabrina sighed out, pupils unknowingly dilating as she started at him. "I'm sorry," was all he said. The girl's now distracted, Olerva gossiping to the couple and them intently listening to how she thought her new boy toy was it, Sab and Az could finally catch up.
He had been on the back burner of her mind throughout all of this, but now he was here. Taking up all the space in her head. "It's fine. Just- I haven't seen you in a bit. I was starting to get a little concerned." She half-joked, simultaneously realizing that she had no reason to be upset at him for being gone for a couple of days.
He was just a customer she happened to get along with.
After a pause, background noise of chatter and footsteps, Azriel finally responded. "| had to take care of a few things, picking Mor and Chappell up included. I would have come here otherwise, I never wanted to miss my daily delicacy." With a soft smile, Sabrina felt the relief in her chest.
She wasn't even sure why she had been so worked up about his disappearance. "I wish you were here, I had a whole menu planned, you know." Seeing her smirk, Az's only words were,
"I wish."

An Azriel x Sabrina Carpenter Story
-1.6 words-

Chapter Three
With her head tilted towards the cash register to put away the last client's money, Sabrina cheerily said her go-to welcoming phrase for the next. As she finished, she looked up and quickly saw some distinctive features. Tan skin, scars, hot bod-anyways.
Her and the not-so-strange stranger locked eyes, both finally realizing who the other was. "Oh," they both said at the same time. Sabrina had been stunned to say the least, he had this intense yet faraway look and she had been surprised to see the same male from last night. He seemed to have the same reaction, and when his eyes finally moved entirely onto her, she truly felt them pierce through her. Azriel, at this point, was pretty sure that she had been the one from last night. Her reaction, expression, and tone of voice had been major indicators, but he still needed her name.
Sabrina asked him cautiously, "Are you... the same.." trailing off, as she didn't want to appear strange if it wasn't him or he didn't remember her. Azriel's eyes shined, "Yes-what's your name?" "Err, Sabrina"
Ding Ding Ding. An S, two A's, and an R.
Her name could ve been anything, but Sabrina bounced around his mind unlike anything else. He had found the one from last night, and rather quickly too (taking in count how many people lived around this area alone, not too mention all of Velaris).
"And yours?" This snapped him out of his prideful thoughts, making him realize that he was probably acting strange to her. "Azriel."
That name... it sparked something inside of her. It felt familiar, but she wasn't sure why.
His entire appearance was also something special, and she surprisingly hadn't realized he had Illyrian wings back at the bar. Despite them being so large. There was practically no lighting in the depths of the booths, so it was no wonder she had only seen his face and hands.
"Soo, what'll it be?" Sabrina now faced her notepad, not believing she could stand his gaze any longer. "Black coffee," he said seriously. "No cream or anything? Not even an espresso?" She half-heartedly joked about his unusual choice, but his face did seem to spark in curiosity. He wasn't one for such delicacies, and truly, only he thought of these things as delicacies. "...Sure" "Sureee what?" "The espresso." With a nod and slight smile, Sabrina put his order in and moved to make it. She was thankful that he was her last customer, at least for rush hour.
♡---♡
Azriel sat patiently at the small table he was previously at. Something ran though his veins, possibly the wonder of trying something new. A hint of.. excitement? Mindlessly, he stared at Sabrina work. Hmm. Despite only having "discovered" her yesterday night, he felt kind of odd at how easily saying her name or watching her move was. He assumed it was simply because of how he had been searching for her, rather than building a relationship normally. Soon, a melody reached his ears. She was humming, something he hadn't heard before. It was soothing, and when she called his name, that didn't go away. It didn't snap him out of a trance, it just lured him farther in.
"Here you go," Sabrina said, watching him approach. "Thank you," Azriel took the small mug and stared at it curiously. "This reminds me of a shot," he said. "It canactually be taken as one, but I'd recommend taking your time to enjoy it," Sabrina smiled at him. He took that into consideration and began to drink it.
Slowly letting it sit on his tongue, the flavor invaded his tastebuds. It was rich and intense at different levels, bitter and energizing, perfect for him. His eyes flicked to hers, and she could tell he had swallowed from the way his throat bobbed. She knew that she should probably be attending to the person who had just walked in, but it was like her eyes were glued to him. The clear enjoyment of the drink visible on his solid face, making her feel proud of her suggestion.
Azriel continued drinking the espresso, the new taste flowing down. He closed his eyes for a second, but her image remained; Somehow, he couldn't manage to look away.
"Sabrina!" They both heard this scolding call from Olerva, the moment broken, and Azriel bid his goodbye with a look and something for the tip jar. Watching him walk out, Sabrina moved towards the new customer and yelled back to Olerva, "I know, I'm sorry! Just got busy with another customer.." But Olerva had a sneaking suspicion that the tremble in Sabrina's voice wasn't just from her hurried state.

Since that day Azriel and Sabrina found each other at the coffee shop, Az has been a recurring customer, and they both began to look forward to seeing each other every morning. It had been a few weeks of Sabrina teasing him about his lack of knowledge regarding the delectable beverages and picking something new for him to try, though he usually reverted back to the first one she had suggested. She figured this situation would make for good poetry, or a fun song.
Azriel learned that Sabrina worked two jobs due to some financial struggles, which he empathized with. When she had first let that slip out through his lasso of truth (his eyes, she feared he would pity her. She knew her predicament, and she didn't want anything from anyone when she was doing fine on her own. But Azriel had seen a lot of things, and had experienced many as well, so he could read and understand her better than she knew. But something within her knew, something within her that was cracking open.
They got to know each other, more than they both would have thought. Azriel came to think of her as witty and passionate, kind and enduring. He wasn't sure how he came to make these statements of her in his mind, so concrete; something that he knew was true. A fact in his brain. Sabrina too came to realize that she had learned a lot about him. She, of course, knew from the start that he was serious. With him being stoic and (a little too) watchful, she did not expect him to be tender and as understanding as he is. Az listens to her, and she feels like she could talk to him for hours. Which brings us to another point, Sabrina now calls Azriel, "Az". They had unknowingly become people the other could trust and share things with, but it takes a long time to cover 5 centuries of history.

Through the nights she worked at the bar, all Sabrina could think about was seeing Az the next morning. Along with her rent payments and finding gigs, but he was the main thing. Or, more specifically, he was the one thing she looked forward to.
"Do not. Do not!" pestered Olerva, making zipping motions with her hands. "What," Sabrina let out a breathy chuckle, "Are you even talking about?" At the same time, shewas wiping a teacup and letting her eyes wander towards the door. For no reason at all. "You'll never guess!" Olerva said, widening her eyes and letting her tongue out like a little lizard. "Stop." "Ok- Anyways, Chappell's coming back home!" Olerva's excitement was quickly shut down when she noticed Sabrina's lack of attention on the conversation and odd focus on the people through the windows. Her face completely dropped, though, when Sabrina muttered "Oh yea, I think she mentioned that last time I heard from her."
"UGHH, what is going on with you today?" Hearing this, Sabrina realized what she had been doing and apologized. "Sorry, it's just- there's a regular here and he isn't here today. It's weird 'cause he would have come and gone a long time ago, and he hasn't missed a single day since I first met him." She was going to make something up, but quickly decided against it seeing her friend's seeking eyes.
"Sabrina he probably just had something come up or he slept in or something, could be literally anything. Anyways, why do you even care so much? 'Ts some random customer, they come and go all the time. Except for Liega, Sayrn, and Terig, they would never miss!" Sabrina deadpanned, "Right." Everyone is random unless you know them and they're your favorite, regular customer; Since nobody else can have regular customers, huh Ol. Catching her petty huff, Olerva just tilted her head and raised a brow.
♡---♡
Azriel had gotten called into Rhys's office. "What did you need, brother? I'm missing Sa- eh Some good coffee for this." Lifting a brow, Rhys responded, finding this behavior unusual. "You have a mission, well, a stakeout more than anything.
Suspicious activity near the borders indicate a threat, especially with the recent spike in travelling. I doubt it means much, but I need the spymaster on it. Just check it out and report back." Azriel only nodded, their lengthy relationship not needing anything more for confirmation. Soon, a knock came from the door and a Feyre entered, not that Azriel was surprised, he could sense her through his shadows. "Nyx has something very important to show you Rhys, said it couldn't wait." She teased, and Rhys let out an endeared sigh. Daemati. He must have let her know through their enhanced bond.
At realizing that this task must not be too concerning (seeing as Rhys was clearly done talking to him), he bid farewell and left. Unfortunately, he didn't make it to the shop in time to see Sabrina before his shift ended, and he didn't want to bother her at Rita's. / should probably get started on this mission anyways.

An Azriel x Sabrina Carpenter Story
-1651 words-

CHAPTER TWO
Getting home, to his room, was all Azriel really needed. Whether he was coming back from fighting for Velaris or hanging out at a dinky, lively bar, he could always find some sense of comfort in his home. It held memories of his life and family... and it was well suited for his wings.
Upon entering his room, he began taking off his cloths to get some decent sleep.
Images of the events from before came to mind, leaving him to realize that it really had not been that eventful. He had just thought so from how he felt throughout it. It was an odd feeling; he knew, logically, that it was just a random waitress that spilled his drink, but there was something more to it.
Ever the observer, Azriel noticed through the dimly lit bar that she had some sort of reflective hair, and that her name contained the letters s, r, and a (based off what he could see on her scratched name tag). There was something awfully mysterious about her, her attitude and simple way of being, it felt like she was truly herself. As someone who was constantly stoic and hiding his emotions, it was refreshing, to say the least.
Soon, Az realized he had just been standing there in thought. Weird. (Even for him.) Coming back to his senses, Azriel laid in bed with the same strange, lingering sensation he had felt since his interaction with that female.
Through lingering thoughts, Az made a resolution to find out more about that waitress and this feeling.

With a pull and a shake of her doorknob, Sabrina unlocked the door to her apartment. "Stupid lock, first they say they can't fix it, then they say I have to deal with it if I get broken into," she sighs.
Sabrina lives in a shabby apartment, as it's the only thing she can afford. Centuries go, she was a child actor for a few famous programs that discovered her through her unt, but that money soon ran out when her aunt died and her father turned to a coholism. The remaining money was barely enough to pay for her, her siblings, mom, and all the damage done. They lasted long enough for her, the youngest, to move out.
Now, her mom is able to get by with her own job and the children, now grown, are all doing their own thing.
Sabrina, though she may play the role of a tough and self-sustaining woman, she still struggles. She knows she's capable, but some things aren't fair in life. For example, she has always wanted to sing. Well, she can sing, but there haven't been enough chances for her to truly demonstrate her passion.
Maybe if I can find time to do some gigs I'll have enough money tomorrow buy a good lock, and a good meal too while we're at it.
Setting down her things, she rids herself of her apron and name tag. "Shitty job can't even give me a functional name tag," she mumbles as she grabs glue out of her kitchen cabinet and uses it to stick back the dangling pin of her tag.
While walking to her bedroom she thinks of her job, recalling the mishap that occurred with that deliciously dark baddie. The faint lighting allowed her to make out his inky clothing, and when he leaned towards her to help clean the mess, she saw his tan skin.
It was littered with scars, but since when has that stopped her?
After getting ready for bed, she fell on her side onto the rugged mattress and slept with dreams of seeing him again. After all, she needed something to provide her with happiness, something (semi) real.
♡---♡
Waking up to the sounds of shouts from the lovely couple next door was not ideal, but at least she won't oversleep and be late for work!
That's right, she has a day job too. It's at a coffee shop near her apartment, and Rita's, so that she doesn't have to walk much and can get from one place to the other quickly.
It's a rough lifestyle but at least she gets the weekends off, at least then she has some time to herself.
Drudging through her morning routine, she finally leaves the building and begins her walk towards the shop. Looking at the serenity alongside her, the colors of the roads and chatter amongst the crowds, she feels a weight lift off of her. She feels as light as a feather, her worries leaving for the duration of her walk. That is until she gets a sensation of eyes on her, not the creepy ones like at the bar, but ones of interest and observation. Seeing the coffee shop ahead of her, she decides to ignore it and just get
Now, the coffee shop was much lovelier and definitely the better choice of her employments. She loved the smell and taste, and one of her favorite hobbies was seeing all the different type of people that came in. She had made friends there too, Olerva and Chappell. Olerva was still with her, but Chappell had found her way into the music industry a few months ago. They remained friends, if not gotten even closer due to their shared interests, with Chappell showing Sabrina a couple of the places she would sing and introducing her to new people, tools, and other things. Chappell had even offered to do a show together but Sabrina hadn't felt like she had earned it quite yet. She wanted to do things on her own, prove herself to herself.
"Hey Sab!" Olerva was shouting to her as she came in from the storage room, holding boxes of creamers and coffee grounds.
"Put on that apron and get those customers PLEASE," she pleaded.
Olerva's grandma was the one that opened this shop many centuries ago, so she tends to take it very seriously. It means a lot to her, and Sabrina thinks it's really sweet.
"I'm on it!" Sabrina shouted back, head tilted as she pulled her hair into a practiced ponytail.

Azriel has been... doing something he probably should not be.
When he awoke this morning, he awoke with a mission. A mission in which he used the excuses of being the courts spy and having to explain its mysteries (no matter whom they were attributed to) to convince himself it was a good idea.
That's why he is now standing outside a cute and well-located coffee shop. By "well-located", he means that it fits into his case perfectly (or so he hopes).
He had woken up quite early, maybe due to the curious anxiety of this situation, so he had plenty of time to do some investigating. When he knocked on Rhys's door asking permission for files on citizens, he managed to get both a lead and an exhausted, hungover Rhys being passive aggressive with him. After searching for specifics, like location, employment, and appearance, he settled on this place. Now, if this lead were to ing true he'd finally be rid of this feeling; he felt lucky that this female could possibly be found- and he really hoped she could be found here.
He didn't really know what exactly his plan of action was, though. Hence the waiting outside, in the shade with his shadows of course. A pensive Azriel just stood there, bland body language in order to blend in. Perhaps I should sit inside to scout the employees, I'll most likely have to wait through the shifts to find who l'm looking for.
Making his way across the road, he walked through the door of the shop. Quickly finding a small table (likely for two) he sat and immediately started scanning the workers. Their aprons with dainty pastel colors and bold highlights, accompanied by the coffee shop's logo, made it easy to spot who was in-fact an employee. Through the many people rushing in and out, he managed to take a look at the female making the drinks before he could see the cashier. She had healthy brown hair, brown eyes, and was wearing jangling bracelets. He checked her off.
Sighing at not being able to get a clear view of all the employees, he casually made his way to the menu stand. It was right beside the order station, so he figured he'd get a closer look and also maybe choose something to drink. After making a swift decision, he peeked over the menu and finally began his observation on the female in front of him.
That's when he realized this might actually be her. She had a blonde look for hair which, upon closer inspection, also resided with ash-blonde roots and other tones of gold. Her eyes were a stunning mix of green and blue, skin a milky and smooth shade, and lips shaped into a complimentary smile forming a set of dimples.
She looked very familiar, all Az needed now was a name. Looking at her outfit and not finding a tag, a feeling of disappointment settled inside of Az. You're being unreasonable, just get in line.
In order to get his final clue and confirmation, Azriel stepped into the lengthy line. He felt that feeling again, and his hands started getting unnaturally condensed. Why is this line so long? Azriel began to get slightly irritated, he only wanted to discover her identity and be rid of this sensation. He also had never been in this coffee shop, quite frankly, he's never been interested in it. This meant he didn't know that people were fiends for its delicacies. Anyways, by now, the line has gotten short enough that there's only two people between him and the cashier. Looking around, he spots a time log on the shelves behind the cashier. Leaning his body slightly forward and squinting his eyes, he makes out a Sab-
"Hi! How may I help you?"

CHAPTER ONE
"Hey Babe" said Azriel in a deep, gruff voice. He had been making fun of his brothers, Cassian and Rhys, as they had both come to boy's night at Rita's fawning over their distinctive partners.
"Aww you're just mad cause you're not gettin some, Az." said Cassian, boastfully.
"I just don't see why you have to come rub it in my face when I don't even really care." As Azriel was replying, Rhys was sitting at their booth and laughing at his brothers from other mothers. The ambience was that of a typical club, the overbearingly loud and crude music, the stench of alcohol, all the works. All sorts of people could be found here, and it was a nice distraction.
As they all sat down and ordered drinks, Azriel couldn't help but think back on how his friends had all found someone to love and settled down. Even Mor, whom he had had a crush on for the longest time, found her mate. Once they had found each other, he realized that while he did love Mor, it was more platonic and he had forced himself into the attraction due to his loneliness. In fact, he was now good friends with Mor's mate, Chappell Roan. She's a famous singer who recently skyrocketed into success, and she loves Mor more than anyone could ever know. And though he fakes being uninterested and nonchalant, his brothers' jokes do get to him. All he truly wants is to experience what they have, to-
A clashing sound on the table snaps him out of his thoughtful stupor.
"I'm so sorry, oh my gods oh gods!"
The drink Azriel had ordered was now spilled on the table, nearly making a mess on his clothes. The cutie pie of a waitress quickly sprung to work on cleaning it up, and she rapidly mumbles apologies and curses.
"Some fae just don't know how to act," she huffed.
The group quickly realized that she had been shoved by an inebriated bundle of males, causing the spill. Azriel was quick to agree with her statement, and they all helped wipe the table clean.
"It's alright, and don't worry about the drink, perhaps that was a sign that drinking tonight was a bad idea."
Smiling at Az's semi-solemn statement, the waitress quipped, "I would say l'd pay for your drink, but I don't earn enough here to pay for something that wasn't quite my fault, huh handsome.
With a slight smirk to his face, and his brothers distracted at the bar, Az let out an "I suppose."
"Welp, guess I gotta get back to work. Sorry about the drink," she said, trailing off.
After that, Azriel bid his brother good night and went to the House of Wind.
