En mi opinión el inglés es un lenguaje seco porque:

Es la lengua franca mundial, es el idioma de los manuales de instrucciones. Es dificíl tener una conversación sentimental en el mismo idioma que se ocupa en la torre de control de un aeropuerto.

En algún punto que desconozco, la literatura anglosajona agarró un miedo casi patológico, digno de estudio la verdad, a la "purple prose" y adoptó un estilo directo, lógico y profundamente seco.

La otra vez estaba leyendo Moby Dick en el inglés original y me sorprendió el contraste del lenguaje florido, poético y lleno de vocabulario comparado con lo que se lee actualmente. En algún punto, no estoy seguro cuando, la literatura inglesa empezó a escribirse así:

"No puedo creer esto" dijo Fulanito. Fulanito estaba enojado. "Voy a tomar venganza." Dijo Fulanito. Fulanito agarró una pistola."

(encima el hecho de que no tengan sujeto tácito lo hace más tedioso)

O sea, mi experiencia de escribir en inglés no es de escribir algo lindo, metafórico, de jugar con el lenguaje, sino de ver que tan eficientemente podés usar tus palabras para contar una trama. Yo en parte creo que esto es porque las técnicas de escribir libretos para la TV o las películas, donde estas cosas son consideradas importantes (ahorrar tiempo, todas las escenas tienen que tener un propósito, etc.) se han filtrado a la manera de escribir literatura. Y lo que creo que es más preocupante, también ha llegado a la literatura de otros idiomas.

Yo no soy muy buen escritor en castellano tampoco, pero se nota cuando alguien es bilingue y escribe en inglés, porque las cosas particulares de su idioma pasan al inglés. En cambio lo que veo que el inglés pasa a mi escritura en castellano es el culto a la eficiencia: tenés que escribir directo, move the plot, develop the characters, tell don't show. Y es algo que me gustaría evitar.

La solución para mí es leer más libros clásicos y viejos, donde la escritura se hace con amor al arte de escribir, en vez de tratar de hacer como alguien posteó acá "un libreto para la película que nunca vas a poder hacer".
