My vision of pup play

Because of my (now offline) website “Happy in Slavery”, and pictures (and videos) of me as a dog floating around, I’ve had questions lately about pup play, from inexperienced pups that feel a strong link with what they saw or read from me.

Obviously, there is no authority of what is or “should” be pup play, and anybody can do in his sex life as he wishes, but since I’m asked about my definition and vision and experience of pup play, I’ll give just that.

To me, pup play is about a partner being human, and a partner becoming/being a dog. The human partner, the Master or Trainer, has a theoretically easy job, which is to treat his mate exactly like a dog (with the bonus of being able to legally fuck him) and ideally/eventually to even think of it as a dog. And the dog, obviously, has to hold, move, and behave like a dog - but mostly, to eventually think like one.

The reasons why some people think this is hot, or even define their sexuality according to this roleplay, are varied. Obviously, it’s very related to Master/slave relationships or more generally to power exchange, but it also plays on things like hypnotism, dehumanisation, infantilization, humiliation, masochism, etc.

To me, the real specificity of pup play is the dog partner has to learn to let go of his humanity - not just as a posture, but mentally and even spiritually. That makes it one of the most intense and extreme “kinky” relationships ever (at least among the safe and sane relationships, obviously) since it’s drastically asymmetrical: while the Master will get erotic, sexual and empowerment/sadistic pleasure from the relationship (pleasure anybody can easily understand), the dog, if he’s a good dog, will get none of that - because he won’t have the mental structure to grasp any of it any more. It’s only after the session, when he snaps out of his canine mental state and comes back to humanity, that he’ll see the erotic and sexual nature of his experience, but during the experience, he gets something entirely different.

That “something” the human dog gets is an entire shift of perspective, that can actually be compared to Zen practise or meditation. Any sort of thought has to vanish, any human memory or worry has to be blocked, language is muted and ideally not understood any more. The concepts of past and future are nonexistent, only the present, what is immediately perceptible through the senses, is real. The body isn’t a mere envelope or tool for the brain, you are your body, nothing more, nothing less.

That shift, impressive when you finally achieve it perfectly, is the very core of the experience of pup play from the point of view of the dog. If you’re turned on by pup play pictures or videos and think you want to be a dog, but aren’t interested into that mental regression/animalization, then you’re making a mistake and confusing porn with reality. Of course, it’s perfectly fine to be on all four on a leash and mimic dog attitudes for a partner while keeping your brain wired up, it can be a lot of fun, but then, you’re a dogboy or a dogslave, not a dog. The point, here, isn’t arguing semantics - the experience, the spirit, and what you get out of each practice is totally different, as are the type of persons attracted to both kinks, so it’s important to know what you’re getting into.

Pup play can give what being a dogboy or dogslave gives, but not during the dog state. When you’re able to reach perfect dog headspace, it’s only after the session that the humiliation, or the sexual submission, or the punishment, or whatever, will get you hard. You’ll get turned on and masturbate thinking back about it, but in the act, you’re too naive and limited intellectually to understand what’s going on - and that, while very kinky, can be massively exciting for the Master, who has to fully understand and accept it, so he enjoys it and guides you to it.

What is the appeal, you may ask, if as a dog you’re not even aware of the hotness of the situation? The answer is peace of mind, a complete change in the way you’re able to live and enjoy reality and life, a unique relationship with your Master (relationship which can go from very soft and affectionate to very hard and kinky depending on what he trains you to do and what you agreed on), fulfilling something very strong inside of you that needs to be experienced, and having the perverse satisfaction of being a genuine sex toy with no control on what happens to you, that sort of mix between consent and abuse that makes power exchange so hot…

All this makes the dog role in pup play ideal for many people who are stressed at work, or have anxiety disorder (like me), or want to cut once in a while from a complicated world, or who have nostalgia of when they were little and could follow their instinct while a “big one” took care of everything. I know the half hour I spent as a dog in my Trainer’s garden running after a grasshopper in the sun is among the happiest moments in my life, and my experience as a human dog completely changed my appreciation of life, for the better.

I know I didn’t get into how to achieve that state, but that text is already quite long, and I can answer to that if people are interested.

How to care for your wolf (pet play version)

I see a lot of posts about “caring for your kitten” and “caring for your puppy” but there are definitely some major differences when taking care of a wolf. You can try these on other pets too, these tips are not only for wolves, but this post is wolf-centric. (this post is not just meant for owners in reference to their pet, some of these bullets can and should be used for pets toward their Alphas.)

Always have beef jerky handy. Beef jerky is a wonderfully tough snack that wolves enjoy taking their time to chomp and chew on. Not just beef jerky, but any snack that involves using their molars to tear the treat apart.

Give them space. Most wolves enjoy time to themselves, unlike kittens and puppies who enjoy constant attention. Just because they don’t want to be touched in that moment doesn’t mean they don’t care about you.

Distance ≠ dislike. Going back to the above bullet, just because some wolves enjoy time to themselves to do their own activities and figure things out, this doesn’t mean they love you any less. They enjoy solitude to collect themselves and relax. So try not to hover if they ask for space, because it’s definitely nothing against you.

But don’t forget to show them affection too. Wolves are known to be stand-offish and sometimes cold, but they do have a soft spot and like to be pet, scratched, brushed, etc. (once trust is earned, that is.)

Take them for walks in the woods. While puppies and even some dogs might be domesticated enough to enjoy a walk through a suburban town, wolves need to get back to their natural element. Be sure to exercise them in the woods by climbing over fallen trees, running up and down hills, or even going in a creek/river.

Be patient. As I stated before, wolves can be stand-offish and cold, but that doesn’t mean they don’t want companionship. It will take time for a wolf to trust you, so take every chance to show them that you are trustworthy, but don’t rush it and don’t hover. You will smother your wolf and most likely scare them away.

Groom your wolf. Try to coax them into the tub for washing, to keep them clean and healthy. If they do not want you to wash them, then offer to brush your wolf, apply lotion, or even brush their teeth. Keep your wolf hygienic, while also respecting their boundaries. (this activity also serves as a bonding exercise.)

Stubborn, but not unteachable. Some wolves, no matter how reserved they may be, enjoy learning tricks. They enjoy a sense of accomplishment. It may take them a little longer to catch onto the tricks you’re trying to teach, but again, be patient with them and make sure to use treats as a reward for them.

Plan skill-worthy games. While some puppies like to play simple games like fetch, a wolf likes something more. Plan games that flex their brain muscle, like skill games. Trial and error until you find one your wolf likes, and once they get used to and learn that game, move on to the next.

Wrestle. Wolves can be violent creatures, and they enjoy a little physical release. So, (with permission, of course) grab your wolf, pin them down, throw them onto the couch, let them get out some of their aggression by fighting back against you. If you want to assert your dominance, a firm bite to the shoulder or back of the neck will put them in their place if they get too rough.
