Eliza takes the peck with grace, scrunching her nose the slightest as she beams back at her other half. Bubbling, “Now, isn’t that the spirit?” Her words punctuate the other’s thoughts, rounding out the conversation and complimenting the natural ebb and flow of their relationship.Â
“Oh,” Eli supplies, “it’ll be good,” pursing her lips together, no longer radiating light. The prior lift in spirits, while common in the Slytherin’s company, was all too atypical for the girl’s character to be sustained any longer. Instead, warmth paves way to a common coolness. With one corner of her lips falling, a familiar smirk makes it’s home on the face of the Ravenclaw. “Too calm? How so?” Tilting her chin upwards and looking over at the blonde from the side, “I know you; you don’t stay bored for long if you can help it.”
Crossing the courtyard, the duo weaves through ornamental foliage and picnic tables of stone tagged with the names of other unconventional partners until they reach a trail they know all too well. Admiring the skyline of the pitch, Eliza almost doesn’t catch Olivia’s shift in tone. Distractedly, unsure of whether to press the matter, “When’s the next time I’ll catch you out there?”Â
A half-hearted shrug slides off Olivia’s narrow shoulders. “I feel too caught up in the status quo. There’s not enough excitement in my life right now.” She huffs out an exasperated sigh before continuing her thought. “I go to class, talk to the same people about the same things, eat the same dinner with the same people, go to quidditch and practice the same techniques, and repeat this day after frickin’ day...it’s exhausting!”
Olivia shakes her head, as if she’s quite literally trying to force the thoughts out of her mind. Her eyes stay focused on the stone paving beneath her feet, a sudden coldness overcoming her prior cheeriness, her previously glistening eyes turning an icy shade of green. When she looks up once again the chill is gone and she resumes her charming banter. “The calm won’t last for too long...if I can help it.” She adds with a wink.
“I believe our next match is sometime next week, maybe Thursday or Friday. I’m having trouble keeping track, what with all that I have on my plate right now.” The blonde answers, sarcasm coating her voice. Hesitating for a moment, Olivia takes the lead down the beaten and reassuringly familiar path to the pitch.

“What’s your damage, Liv?” Eliza grumbled playfully, pushing lightly on the blonde’s shoulder before piping up, “By studying ancient runes you, too, can understand the crude humor that adorns our halls; you’d think Hogwarts couldn’t get any livelier.” Running a hand to push her fringe back and away from her line of sight, Eli made a face when her jewelry caught in the brown and pulled. “Anyways, I wasn’t messing around with the runes - I was, very deliberately, working on a cipher key. I mean, you’d think with all the magic we’ve got we’d come up with something a tad more efficient than a reference dictionary?”
Catching Olivia’s grin, the corners of the brunette’s lips pulled up to match her partner’s smile. “Not much,” she agrees, “thank the gods.” The latter sentiment is light, partnered with a laugh. “Me? Mischievous? Please, you know,” Eliza’s tone betraying the fact that she is anything but serious, “I have nothing but good intentions.” Chiding, “But remember, these ideas aren’t mine. If they like, totally suck, don’t come to hunt me down."Â
"If at the very least, you can get some practice in tonight.” With that, Eliza takes steps down and out of the school and into the courtyard, just barely spotting a mass of yellow heading in the opposite direction, towards the lights of the castle.Â
Pausing momentarily, Olivia bent slightly to press a quick apologetic kiss on Eliza’s cheek. “I’m just teasing. I admire your dedication and the patience you have with your work. You’re the thinker, I’m the doer. We truly compliment each other.” A sincere smile was sent in Eliza’s direction, embodying the appreciation she had for her friend. “This is exactly why I keep you around.”
“I’ll make sure not to blame you if I fall off my broom.” She rolls her eyes lightly, but smiles. “Good or bad, I’m excited to see what you have in store for me. The waters are too calm any how, and certainly not to my liking.”
Olivia follows closely behind Eliza and closes her eyes as they step out into the quiet night. Taking a moment to breathe in the fresh air and relish in the cool breeze, she replies slowly. “The more practice the better...as if I need it.” She adds half jokingly.

“Good observation,” the Ravenclaw supplied, pairing her words with a curt nod confirming the blonde’s comment, “though I never did say my work was class-related.” With that, the shorter of the two pulled what appears to be an older, worn wristwatch from her bag. When held over her wrist, the leather straps circle around Eliza’s wrist, pull, and fasten.Â
"So we could go to the courtyard,“ she offers, "or we could head on down to the Quidditch pitch. If I’m right on the time, we can get down there right as Hufflepuff turns in for the night.” Running her thumb over the face of the piece of Muggle tech, she counts the notches around the circle to confirm the hour. Leaning into her friend confidentially, Eliza’s eyes took on a mischevious gleam, hidden by shadows. “I believe I’ve pulled new rules for our favorite game. While I can’t tell if it’s a welcome addition to the sport or a rewrite altogether, I fully intend to find out sometime."Â
"And your expertise on a broom is wholly welcome, nonwithstanding the fact that you’re one, if not the only one, I can count on to not chicken out at the prospect of a late night play.” Descending down a flight of stairs, then another, she stops at an intersection. “I’ll wait here if you wanna grab your broom from Slytherin commons, yeah? I bet there’ll be a few tucked away for the stragglers down at the pitch if you’re not up for the trip; your call, babe.”
Upon hearing the older girl’s response, Olivia perked up and sent a sly glance over to Eliza. “Okay, you’ve intrigued me...do tell.” She chuckled slightly. “I hope this isn’t like last year when I thought you were working on some super mysterious and amazing underground project but you really turned out to be messing around with ancient runes.”Â
Olivia instinctively touched her wrist as she watched Eli pull out her watch, realizing she had misplaced her own. Green eyes meet glistening brown and a grin crosses Olivia’s face immediately. “Now you’ve really intrigued me. I’d never turn down a trip to the pitch for a...friendly game.”Â
Carefully maneuvering down the ever changing staircases, she shrugs and smiles boastfully. “There’s not much that I chicken out of my dear Eli.” The blonde hesitates for a moment, moving toward the hall that would lead back to her familiar green and silver common room before turning back to Eliza. “Lord knows what kind of mischievous twist you came up with for our beloved game, and since we’ll be playing in the dark, I’m not sure I want to risk damaging my new broom. I’ll take a chance with one of the leftover brooms.”Â

Trading dinner with her peers for a pen cap and some leftovers, the latter of which lay abandoned on the floor by her chair, Eliza found herself engrossed in the writing’s of another. Choosing to exchange plastic-wrapped stacks of paper for older copies boasting the very same concepts, the brunette winced only slightly when she tore three, four pages from the delicate binding. The Ravenclaw ran black-lacquered fingertips down her handiwork, before double-checking that she had pulled all the pages she needed. Collecting knowledge in such a manner would’ve elicited gasps from the first-years, but in the absence of all, the sound of the very same textbook closing echoed in the empty chambers. One deliberate motion of her hand and the papers were folded in half, a severe crease running down the middle of the sheet.Â
With a rap at the front of the room putting an end to the silence for good, it was only moments before the common room was filled with silver and blue. Quickly crossing what space stood between her and one of the many bookshelves in Rowena’s tower, Eliza shoved her own book in one of the few empty crannies before waiting for the after-dinner buzz to die down before slipping out into the halls herself.Â
At the words of her companion, Eliza’s eyebrow cocked. Stifling a smile, though there was no disguising the playfulness in her voice, “This is a school, y’know. A girl shouldn’t have to come up with an excuse to spend some time studying.” With that, the shorter of the two girls shoved the raw edges of the paper she just pulled deeper into her bag. Motioning for Olivia to take the lead, “Didn’t mean to keep you waiting, but it’s about time we head out of here.”Â
The blonde rolled her eyes playfully. “I shouldn’t be surprised that you skipped dinner to study.” Taking the lead, Olivia began strolling casually down the hall, slowing down slightly to walk side by side with Eliza. “What were you working on? I thought you were all caught up in your classes, or knowing you, ahead in all your classes.” She linked her arm through Eliza’s and chuckled.
“Anyway, I figured that we could go out to the courtyard, or wander around until someone finds us and makes us head back to our rooms.”

Olivia shook her leg impatiently and stole glances at her watch as she stood waiting outside of the Ravenclaw dormitories. The students had just finished up dinner several minutes earlier and the lanky blonde watched silently as a few stragglers ambled their way up to their rooms for the night. Olivia had convinced her raven haired counterpart to meet her for an evening stroll around the castle grounds. She had changed into a comfortable over-sized shirt and a pair of casual jeans before meandering her way to Ravenclaw tower. To pass the time, Olivia wandered down the hall, eyeing the moving paintings that lined the stone walls. She winked and smiled at a few paintings she came across and even stopped to chat with a man in a portrait.Â
Growing increasingly impatient, Olivia had to stop herself from knocking on the common room entrance. A few Ravenclaws shot her curious looks as they walked through the hall, to which she responded with a scowl. Her face suddenly lifted when she saw familiar face walking towards her. “Geez Eli, I’ve been waiting out here for eons. What took ya so long?”
