Now came the hard part - getting to know his charge. Conversation with him was always a bit wooden because of how little Shizuo showed interest. It wasn’t that he immediately hated her based on looks and, if he had read that packet, personality alone. He just never found it in his best interest to become friends with those he was being paid to protect.

Still, his boss insisted that he should at least try and get to know his charges regardless if it was a breach in professionalism. To help better protect them had been the excuse. Yeah, sure, Shizuo was supposed to know her favorite color and if she preferred dogs or cats just so his job could be easier.

What a load of bull.

“I’m your new bodyguard. Name’s Shizuo Heiwajima. Just Shizuo’s fine. No need for formalities…unless it’s your thing, I guess.” He shrugged nonchalantly.

     “Oh?” Surprised echoed in her tone as she let her index finger on her chin. A new bodyguard? Even that took her by surprise for a split second. “Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you Shizuo!” Giving him a bright smile she then turned around towards the entrance. Good, that was over with she was able to leave towards her destination.

     Once outside she stretched her arms above herself feeling her muscles relax. She could never deal with that bodyguard that was with her before - too uptight and he just always kept too much of watchful eye on her. She couldn’t handle that. Letting her shoes hit the pavement she began her walk towards the one place with her name-calling as well with “Mimi! Are we heading there now?”

     Ears perked up upon hearing her Digipartners voice as she took her phone out and let her screen light up. “You bet we are!” Figuring that Shizuo was following her due to bodyguard duties she spoke up to the male. “So, how did you end up here in Wonderland?” Spinning around she started to walk backwards facing the taller male.

To be scolded by a younger person felt odd, but also reassuring; she had only met this girl for a few minutes or so, but oh did she have interesting things to hear! An optimistic one. I like her, she’s interesting.

And a kind one, too; Celia had become used to slay foreigners, whether on her own will or not, a monster to be slain and a guinea pig to try on. Ah, she missed normal conversation more than she had realized.

     Smiling seeing the older female’s nod of her head Mimi sat back in her chair. “Mmm, if you don’t mind me asking Celia, how did you end up in Wonderland?” Mimi enjoyed Celia and considering she was the first one she pretty much met upon coming into this crazy world.

     She hoped that Celia didn’t take the girls forwardness to much to the heart. Mimi knew that she was harsh, she means well though but sometimes people really didn’t know how to handle the girl’s straightness into her words. The only people that knew that forwardness was her group of friends.

     Palmon currently was sitting back in her seat with a happy stomach full of ice cream. Mimi let a smile cross her lips seeing her partner in a content state. Despite not being able to speak she was happy and hoping that she wasn’t too distraught in that. Mimi was going to get her freedom back, one way or another.

There was a crowd. And not just any normal city crowd but an actual crowd of people gathering around one place in front of a building. Taichi was rather intrigued. He was curious as to what caused so many people to be around this event or whatever was happening. Taichi slowly maneuvers through the sea of people to try and get to the front and see what was going on.  

Taichi couldn’t believe his eyes. Standing before him now was someone so beautiful in her pretty outfit he was flabbergasted. Of course people wanted to crowd around this person. She had to be a model with her beauty. Papparazzi, fans and reporters all wanted her attention. It was clear that this female was popular for sure. It wasn’t until the girl actually turn towards his way did Taichi’s jaw drops. “Mimi?!” he shouts in astonishment.

It was then everyone turn towards him and looked at him as if he was crazy. “What? I know her! I swear! I do!”

     Mimi’s popularity had risen since her latest magazine debuted with the photoshoot - not to mention sale prices went up for the clothing line she was helping out with. So, upon her exiting the building a crowd had formed with people talking over one another to gain her attention. Smiling and waving to everyone she gave her thanks as she signed some items.

     As she was continually giving the fans and media her attention once she turned around she heard the familiar voice of her long-time friend. “T-Taichi!?” Shouting the same manner as him she then squealed in joy as she rushed over to the male - ignoring the mummers and stares of people. Tackling him in a hug similar to the one she gave Yamato when she saw him she could feel a huge smile.

     “Oh my god! I can’t believe you’re here!” Pulling away from the hug she then turned to the mass of people before flashing them a peace sign and a wink. “Sorry everyone, but this will have to be cut short.” With that, she grasped onto Taichi’s arm while dragging him away. “How did you get here? When did you get here? Have you ran into Yamato and anyone else?” There she goes firing one question after another.

    The smile on Meiko’s face was the strongest she’s had in the longest time since falling into Wonderland. The feeling of being next to someone that she actually knew brought a warmth to her chest that she hadn’t felt since Taichi’s call around Christmas time…this was nice…this is what she needed.

    Upon seeing Palmon, a complex whirlwind of emotions filled her head: joy at seeing a Digimon again, the saddness at remembering Meicoomon…and the worst? The jealousy. There was a dark side to Meiko that started to form when falling into Wonderland that started to tell her to hate everyone that still had their Digimon: especially her friends. But she kept that voice at bay and hugged the plant Digimon back; the warmth of being with friends filling her chest again.

    Hearing the question, Kanchi mewed at both Mimi and Meiko, the first as acknowledgement, and the second to get the other’s attention, “O-oh! This is Kanchi. I found him a couple of days after I got here, he was really helpful, and still it.” Meiko kissed the top of Kanchi’s head, the cat purring in response.

    The second question…was one that broke the warmth from her chest and caused a slight chill to replace it. Flashes of her searching every night for Meicoomon to the point that she missed school a couple of days from exhaustion. 

    With her eyes getting slightly wet, “I-I…I thought I heard Meicoomon…I thought I h-heard her crying for help….but it looks like I was wrong…”

    Happiness swelled within the model at seeing Meiko once more. And seeing her and Palmon hug made her break into a smile. She had missed the raven-haired girl and was actually planning on calling her to make plans on hanging out and well, obviously that couldn’t happen since she ended up in Wonderland.

  Letting out a small squeal at the small cat she scratched the top of his head. “What a cutie. I’m glad that you both found each other, he found a perfect owner.” And she really meant that Meiko was a very kindhearted girl who Mimi would pretty much fight anyone over if they thought otherwise.

    Hearing the girl’s voice breaking as she spoke, Mimi felt her heart sink. Ever since that day - the series of events that led up to that time. It still broke Mimi, and all of the Digidestined wished there was another way - Kairi was the most vocal about the option that they were left with.

                    The only option that had left.

    Leaning over she hugged Meiko tightly. Her heart broke for her. She could feel the tears start to form, but she had to be strong. She never could understand what it meant to lose a Digimon partner, it was different feeling then loosing and seeing your Digimon friends from the Digital World die in front of you, but for it to be your partner? She couldn’t even fathom.

    Pulling away from her friend she gave a sympathetic look but spoke her words. “You know, I was told that Digimon are not always gone forever. They’re reborn back as a Digiegg.” She remembered hearing this when T.K. and Kairi were helping Willis out. “They come back to you.” Giving a warm smile to Meiko she continued. “So, I’m sure Meicoomon will return to you!

     Independent study was always one of Hikari’s strong suits in the academic field. Reticent as she was, the Stage Girl had difficulties getting along with others. Taking the time to research a topic on her own was a great relief; she could pick anything she wanted without needing to please anyone but herself. Well, she did have to please the professor as well

    The topic for this study was rather simple; the language of flowers, and how the symbolism can be used on the stage. Even actresses had to touch up on their knowledge of production once in a while. The only problem was Cestrelle didn’t quite have any locations with an abundance of flora. Hikari only knew of one place in Wonderland overflowing with beautiful flowers of all kinds; the Walk of Hearts Flower Park.

     Palmon hearing the voice turned her attention to the new female. Tugging at her partner’s arm Mimi hm’ed as well turned her attention to the newcomer. “Oh!” Exclaiming as she stood up from the ground she beamed a smile at the girl. “Sorry, didn’t see you there. Hope we weren’t in your way.”

    Mimi gave Palmon a smile as to tell her to enjoy soaking up the sun still as the Digimon gave a smile in return and closed her eyes enjoying the sunshine. Mimi made her way towards the other girl a smile on her face. Remembering hearing the girl’s comment she did a side glance at her partner as she let out a light chuckle. “She is a pretty interesting flower, but she’s called a Digimon.”

     Taking a closer look at the girl it seemed like she was familiar. Where had Mimi seen her before? Getting lost in her thoughts for a split second she returned back to her thoughts before giving a sheepish smile. “Sorry, my name’s Mimi! Nice to meet you.” Giving her a wink and a peace sign the model then remembered where she saw the girl and exclaimed. “Oh! Don’t you work at Twisty’s!?”

     Realizing that she shouted she gave a nervous laugh. “Uh, sorry about that.” Rubbing the back of her head she then asked. “Are you here on an assignment?” Pointing to the book in her hands she noted that it must have been something about flowers.

     Since today Mimi had no more photo shoots if the girl was up for some company the model would be more then happy to keep her company and if not then possibly help her with her assignment. Or better yet, have her join her for some food.

     The model impatiently crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her finger against one of them. Why did her manager need to here anyway? She was about ready to head out and explore Wonderland some more. He had just told her to wait in MH Towers entrance hall before she left and so here she was. In the entrance hall, with a bodyguard keeping watch over the girl as gave him an unimpressed look.

             She just really wanted to sneak away.

    If Mimi really wanted to, she really could. She’s done it so many times before, what was stopping her now. She just really wanted the ice cream and today was beautiful. Instead, it was being wasted away due to her manager telling her to “wait in the entrance.” In truth, a bunch of bull, he seriously could just call her up and tell her why she needed to wait, but not. It was frustrating because he’s done this so many times enough as is, and she didn’t need any protection.

    As she was about ready to walk away she felt a hand on her shoulder and she turned around seeing the bodyguard looking stern. She let out a nervous laugh as she stopped moving. Damn. Plan foiled, well this guard wasn’t as dumb as the other ones she’s had, but it was still a pain. Quietly grumbling saying how unfair this was she let out a sigh before sitting at the couch.

     Picking up the elevator dinging she turned her attention seeing someone new. She’s never seen him before. He looked new, but also he seemed to know what he was doing with whatever his job was. Expecting him to leave the building she turned her attention back to her phone not paying any heed. 

    Paying no attention that the guard that was with her left his post and was immediately replaced with the blonde haired guy she saw just a few minutes ago. Jolted from her thoughts she looked up to the male with confusion written on her face. Blinking a few times she cocked her head to the side. “Yes, that would be me. Who are you?” Standing up she took her place in front of him.

“She’s just a kid.”

“A kid whose revenue can buy me a back up yacht!” How humble, he thought bitterly but kept his tongue as the man went on. “Listen, Heiwajima, her manager specifically asked for you. Now I’m not one to disappoint, and I know deep down inside you aren’t either, so do us both a favor and say–”

“Yes.”

“–ye… Oh. Oh, that’s great! Better than great. Here, let me give you your briefing…” It wasn’t long before he handed Shizuo a packet aptly named ‘M. Tachikawa’ in big, bold letters at the top. There was no way he was reading any of this. It didn’t matter how many packets the greedy bastard threw at him, Shizuo never once read a single page. He found it best to take care of his charges by engaging with them than reading about them.

“She’s quite a handful, Mr. Heiwajima,” his boss informed, “but I have no doubt in my mind you’ll make me proud. Now, please be on your way! They’re waiting for you.”

Shooing him out the door, packet and all, the first thing Shizuo went for was the trashcan just beside his boss’s secretary’s desk. It fell inside the can with a dull thump and then, just like that, he was heading toward the lobby.

It didn’t matter how difficult his boss thought she might have been, or how difficult she thinks she is, Shizuo was prepared. He’s dealt with worse - and he’s not even considering the idiots he’s had to deal with back home. He’s fully equipped to take on whatever his company has thrown at him, dramatic hissy fits and all.

The elevator door leading to the lobby eventually opens and when he steps out, his eyes lock with a young girl seated comfortably on one of the sofas. There’s another man wearing shades and a black suit who, upon seeing Shizuo, takes his leave immediately.

“Hey,” he nods toward the young girl and, quite stupidly to be honest, says, “You must be Mimi.” Like it wasn’t that obvious in the first place.

   Kaoru had an avid way of doing what he believed was best for others, even if (and especially) it put himself in a difficult position. Such as when he had stepped back and allowed Hikaru to pursue Haruhi, or even when he’d secretly wished Hikaru would want to stay by his side for their college years but encouraged him differently nonetheless. Those times had all worked out in the youngest twin’s favor, luckily, and this time seemed to be no different. They were both fine, after all, not a speck of mud on either individual’s clothing.

   “Oh, it was nothing, really,” The HItachiin brother smiled politely, simply happy to help a passing stranger in need. However, when she spoke again, Kaoru’s own cheeks seemed to burn a brighter red though he tried to conceal it in his expression. “Uh, well…”

   Should he tell her he was gay?

   “N-no,” He decided, body relaxing from the tensed position it had taken. “No girlfriend. And thank you very much, I’d say you’re very beautiful, as well,” Kaoru complimented, leaning forward slightly as he implemented the charms he remembered from his Host Club training - it was like second nature to him. 

   “No harm done, I’m just fine!” The twin replied, waving her worries away dismissively with his hand. Using the same hand, he offered it out in official greeting. “My name is Kaoru Hitachiin.”

     Seeing his blush Mimi felt accomplished as she changed her expression to surprised and then another flush of her cheeks. “You’re sly.” She let out a light laugh as she was glad that there wasn’t anything on their outfits, the girl would have felt bad because she wasn’t paying attention and had to be saved.

     Grasping his hand with her’s she beamed him a big smile. “Mimi Tachikawa, nice to meet you Kaoru.” Letting go of his hand she cocked her head to the side. “Where you off somewhere Rau?” She hoped that he didn’t mind her giving him a nickname. It was just something about him that Mimi couldn’t help but just do.

    “Oh! Again, thank you for saving me grace.” Letting out a laugh she kinda put a pout on her face. “Man, everyone would call me out on that too.” Meaning the rest of her friends but she didn’t mind, they meant it in love. Linking her arm around his she gave him a sly look. “How about we go grab some food. Unless you had something else to do.”

Celia’s laugh was a mix of ironic and sincere; well, she isn’t technically alive nor breathing per se, but really, anything was better than the situation she found herself before. The conversation, however, did bring her a taste of what was like being truly alive again.

The food was lovely, too. Something about the flavor caught the professor’s attention, she took note of it.

“Everyone needs a vacation every now and then, don’t we?” She raised an eyebrow. “Or people would go mad. You could say I was the type to really need one.” She then chuckled. “I sure had to take a long one when my thesis was done, so much work to do…”

     Listening to Celia’s words she nodded her head, spoon in mouth she gave a smile before removing the spoon. “Overworking is never good for anyone. So, you are pretty much on another vacation.” Taking another spoonful she still had a blissful look on.

     “Besides, whenever you can return to your world you’ll be well rested for more work. Ah, just don’t forget to take those breaks.” She pointed the spoon in her direction as she gave a slight scolding tone. “Sure working gets things done, but what happens if you end up getting hurt or sick during that time. It will slow down your progress even more.”

     Palmon nodded her head hearing her tamer’s words as she was happily enjoying her ice cream. The plant-like Digimon always saw people who looked overworked and stressed back in their world and saw all the hard work Mimi did to cheer those people up and especially with the 9/11 incident.

     “Hard work gets you results, but even when you think you’re doing your best. It can have its downfalls.” Mimi was also thinking back to the 9/11 incident but brushed it off with a smile. “So, always take care of yourself!”

   Kaoru was nothing if not a gentleman, even without his twin brother at his side (which, considering the matter, was probably better for all parties involved), so upon spying a beautiful young girl on her way out of M.H. Towers on his daily commute home from work, he took notice. He especially took notice of the puddle near the street, the car rushing directly for it, and how close she was standing to the spot. Her outfit would surely be ruined, and having a brother who wanted to design when he got older, Kaoru understood this was a bad, bad thing. 

   Quickly, the twin leapt forward from a walk to a run, speeding his pace up enough to catch her just in time. Without asking, and probably while frightening her, Kaoru wrapped his arms around her small body and moved them both several spaces back, the mud splatters coming within inches of their figures.

   For a moment, he stood there, eyes staring down at the dirt before he finally released her. “My apologies, miss,” He began, bowing slightly at the waist as he usually did in greeting to someone new. “I shouldn’t have grabbed you like that, but I didn’t want your outfit to get ruined!”

     Another photoshoot down and she was finally freed. After changing out of the new fashion wear for the new season she got back into her regular clothes. Black heeled boots, an ankled white skirt and a black short sleeved shirt she stepped out of the MT Towers and started walking along the pavement.

    Clearly, she wasn’t paying to her surroundings till she suddenly felt arms wrapping around her waist and she was just staring at the spot she was at and then a splatter of mud in their wake. It happened all so fast her mind couldn’t comprehend everything till someone’s voice jolted her back to reality.

     Brown eyes looked at the person the voice belonged to and she was in all honesty, caught off guard. Oh no. He was very attractive and slowly his words sunk in her mind as she felt a light blush form on her cheeks. “Oh! No, don’t worry about it! Besides you’re the one who saved me from my outfit getting destroyed.” Letting out an airy laugh she also continued. “Also, you’re really handsome. Do you have a girlfriend?” She was being flirty and upfront with her words, but that was just how she was.

     “Are you alright though?” Concerned laced in her tone as she made sure he wasn’t injured - but how would he have gotten injured the worst that would have happened is that he would have gotten mud on his clothes in the process.

She listened attentively, listening to every detail her conversation partner gave her. For second, her face morphed into a frown; if there was something Celia loathed, it was the feeling of being trapped. No place to go. Confined to an empty space for god knows where. 

Never to see anything again -

“To be restricted is, certainly, a distressing situation to be in.” Silence. “How weird. I don’t actually remember how I even arrived,” she then chuckled. “Perhaps I was just teleported here.”

That was a silly thought for an academic woman like her, but then again, was there much choices to speculate upon? She went through a concrete hell of a laboratory to unknown woods to finally this place in less time than she’d have thought.

The spoon twirls around her fingers with ease. Celia was pensive.

     Giving a solemn smile Mimi listened to the female’s words. Indeed, it was a distressing situation to ever be in. Its why Mimi let Palmon out whenever if not then all the time. She didn’t want to have her partner feel like that, constrained... it's taking her freedom away and no one would ever want to feel that.

     Resting her cheek on her palm the female poked at her ice cream a bit before taking a bite. The cold helped soothe her mind at ease and she closed her eyes for a bit. “I mean, if you think about it... this world IS very strange all on its own. So to be teleported or however means Wonderland even works I wouldn’t doubt it.”

     Shaking the thoughts away she had a determined face on. “Well, we’re here and all that matters is that we’re alive and breathing!” Pumping her fists together she took a few more spoonfuls of ice cream enjoying the taste. “And the food here isn’t too bad.” She was in bliss, to be honest. “It’s like a vacation of sorts.”

26. Gold

     As much as the brunette loved the fancy things in life, nothing could ever replace the friendships and everyone she has met in her life for something much greater.

     Was gold really worth that much? In her homeworld though, people were very selfish. Sure, Mimi wouldn’t lie that she was at one point, but she was older and grew up. She was young and naive back then, now... now she knows what's important.

     People would most likely kill for gold if it came down to it. If people had to choose between friends/family or gold. The gold she would think would win. It was something she couldn’t even think about, friends and family were so important, maybe because of what the girl has been through. Without them by her side, she never would be where she would be at right now.

39. Peace

     As much as her mind was busy with running back into Yamato and Meiko, she still couldn’t help but worry.  Sure, it helped to see at least two people she knew from her world. It still didn’t stop how her other friends were.

     She found herself playing with the ends of her hair from time to time, the anxiety on when she’d see the rest of her friends - as well as her parents.  The only peace that she could get was knowing that she had Yamato, Meiko, Palmon, and Gabumon all here with her. That was better than nothing for the female.

Drabble meme

     They were beautiful, yet deadly if someone was not careful enough. The Queen of Hearts really knew her flowers and how to pick them that's for sure.  Anyone else wouldn’t be able to tell what flowers were perfect and healthy to dead and wilted.

     Roses, their bright colours in all shades, their thorns to prick those who don’t handle them with care, and perfect within Walk of Hearts Flower Park. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath in enjoying the scent that the roses gave off.

     Eyes looked towards Palmon who was happily in the rose field. Mimi always loved roses, but even more, because Palmon’s final form was Rosemon. Who was so beautiful and Mimi couldn’t help but feel proud to have a Digimon who digivolved into her.
