Fire Family Week 2025, Day 7: Protective Parents (lets end this week with happy fire family)

Lu Ten laughed as he watched his aunt try to wrangle his cousins.

"What did I say about going in my garden?!"

"Not to..." they said in unison

"And what did you do!"

"We did. We are incredibly sorry" They said in unison again as they bowed

"Oh... I can't stay mad at my babies..." Ursa mumbled as she got down and brought them into a tight hug, ozai walked in as his children ran out, "Ursa what were the children doing in here?" Ozai asked, "The flowers are fine Ozai relax..." Ursa mumbled as she looked at the flowers, getting down to check them.

"The children are fine right? And the flowers?"

"Yes Ozai"

"Those the flowers you using to make Azlon kick the bucket?" Lu Ten said skipping over and putting his arm around his uncle. "Don't be so loud Lu Ten," Ozai said as he pushed his nephew off, Ursa chuckled. "Once Azlon is gone we'll put Ozai on the throne..." Ursa whispered walking over to hug her husband, "That's if nothing goes wrong..." Ozai said as he looked over to his nephew, "What I do?" Lu Ten asked, "Let the kids in here!" Ozai whispered yelled, ursa rubbed her husband's chest trying to calm him, "I'm sure he didn't do it on purpose," Ursa said.

"Yeah, it was an accident! What can I do to help!" Lu Ten asked

"Not die." Ozai responded

"Got it!"

Life has been good for me, I finally got the lead in "Love Amongst The Dragons" I know you hate the play for the "unrealistic love story."

She chuckled.

I've missed you talking to you, remember when I told you about my boyfriend... Ikem... has been well ikem, he still acts like a kid sometimes, but we grew up together so I guess he just acts how he did when were kids... I like him I do, he was and is a good friend and guy, but I don't want a childhood friend who is still a child. I'm thinking about breaking up with him but the last time I tried he started crying... because his dad died. Anyway enough about him, you didn't send your letter last month, I'm just worried about you.

She smiled as she blew on the letter trying to quickly dry it, she heard the noise from outside but didn't think much of it till her mother opened her door with tears in her eyes, "Mom? What's wrong? Is dad okay?" Ursa asked as she got up, "My sweet girl..." Rina mumbled as she held Ursa's face, "Mom?" She asked, "The Fire Prince has asked for your hand..." her mother said taking her hand and leading her to the garden where Jinzuk, Fire Lord Azlon, and her future husband.

Ursa looked at her mother as she started to walk away to go start packing for Ursa. Ursa took a deep breath then opened the door to the greenhouse, "Dad..?" Ursa whispered as she wondered around the greenhouse trying to find were they where, "Father?" Ursa said as she walked over, bowing low when she saw the fire lord "Fire lord azlon it's an honor...!" She said, Azlon chuckled and introduced his son, and mentioned a few other things but she stopped listening this fire prince ozai dude looked a suspiciously lot like her Zai. He was handsome and strong... and really hot literally. Her father and Azlon left them alone to talk and get to know each other, she noticed ozai looking at her flowers.

"Those are Roses and other there is sliver wisteria, and right there are fire lillies they are my favorite..." she mumbled upset, theose were the ones zai had given her, "Oh here," ozai said handing her a letter with a fire lily. She looked at it then at him and crossed her arms, "Ursa..." Ozai whispered then she took his letter grudgingly.

"Dear fire lily..." she started reading, when she finished she threw the flower he had given her with the letter into the area that was for her Fire Lillies and threw the letter at him and marched back inside with him behind her. She went back to her room and sat on the bed crossing her arms, "Ursa," Ozai said as he walked in and sat beside her, "You could have said something!" She said getting up and grabbing some of her books, "You won't need those, I can just get you some more..." he mumbled, she huffed in anger and put them back and started writing down the names of the books.

"Is that my letter? Can I read it?"

"I don't know. Can you."

"I love Ursa..."

"If you loved me you would have told me in advance! And does Azlon know about us? Why did he choose me?"

"Sorry, no, and because of Roku"

"What?"

"I'll explain it later"

Yue: She can see us cause some spirit world stuff went down on her birth, Ursa usually does it but lu ten is with her

Post-Canon twist where it's revealed that Azula isn't hallucinating but seeing her mother's spirit, and she begins to get haunted by spirits of Jet and Yue and Lu Ten but instead of like, scaring her they just kind of fuck with her cuz it makes them all laugh

Fire Family Week 2025, Day 6: Dragons and Family Trauma

"My grandfather slayed dragons."

"My grandfather had a dragon friend."

Ozai chuckled.

"We are enemies by blood."

"By nature."

"But I love to hate you," Ursa whispered

"And I hate to love you," Ozai whispered back

"You know...-" Ozai said

"There is a thin line between love and hate," they said in unison making them both laugh

"My father took a bribe to live in the country from Firelord Azlon right after I made a friend" Ursa said with a shrug

"My father beats and burns me...." Ozai responded

They were silent for a bit

"My mom is sick..." Ursa whispered

"My mom is dead..." Ozai whispered back

"My brother died in the army..." Ursa mumbled

"My brother is an a*s"

"Zai..."

"You've met him!"

"I admit he is a little much, but he really is a sweet guy... just give him a chance zai!"

They looked down below them because they heard someone yelling Ursa's name it was a servant trying to tell her that her parents were leaving now. "Well, that's my cue... I don't hate you zai zai..." Ursa said as she turned to him sitting up from where they lay on the roof, the only place they could talk freely. "Have a good life zai, hey I may be leaving but don't forget about me," she said as she started to get down, "How could I ever forget a girl like you... bye Ursa... I'll miss you..." he said so low that she didn't hear the last part.

Fire Family Week 2025, Day 5: The Second Child Prodigy

Ozai walked into his daughter's room and sat down beside her where she sat on the floor, "Are you crying?" Ozai asked firmly but as emotionally as the royal family etiquette would allow. "No father...." Azula muttered through sobs, ozai patted her head awkwardly in a horrible attempt at making her feel better, "Did your mother yell at you..?" Ozai said getting flashbacks of his childhood.

Of his father beating him.

Burning him.

All because he wasn't Iroh.

Because he was him.

The Unwanted Second Child Prodigy

He was a prodigy!

So had an idea of what his daughter was feeling. Ursa didn't beat or burn Azula but she still did plenty of damage, "What did she say?" Ozai asked as his seven-year-old daughter looked up wiping her eyes, "S-s-she..." Azula stuttered out, "Azula Fire Princess do not stutter, they are proud of their opinions," Ozai said as he brought her into a side hug, it wasn't proper but no one was here and no one would hear about it.

"But I'm not proud that mom hates me..."

"Your mother doesn't hate you."

"Yes, she does! She said she wished she wasn't my mother! She said it! What's the point of being a Prodigy if no one loves you for it!" She cried

Those words sounded so familiar.

Heart-shattering familiar.

That was the exact point where his relationship with Iroh went downhill. It was the night that Iroh got back from his very first mission he was 10 and Iroh was 20 and a newlywed. Iroh's life was going great, while Ozai had to deal with their father's abuse every single day. Ozai had just gotten a new burn courtesy of his father, and he was on the way back to his room after his father had yelled at him for not crying after he burned him but he also yelled when he did. It was raining hard. He barely heard Iroh yelling at him to stop standing in the rain and to get under the sheltered walkway. "What do you want!" Ozai snapped at Iroh, "I was checking on you... I heard what Dad did... I wanted to help you... does he always do that?" Iroh asked as he tried to touch Ozai who stepped back from his touch, "I don't need you to check on me! Stop being so perfect! He wouldn't do it if you weren't you! So just leave me only! What's the point of being a Prodigy if no one loves you for it!" He yelled before storming off.

That was 17 years ago.

"Azula being a prodigy is not useless and it will come in handy for you one day... I'll talk to your mother."

Azula hugged her father and thanked him.

"Now go to bed," Ozai said as he kissed her and then watched her run out, his face shifted from momentary happiness to Morbid anger. He made his way to Ursa's room she was sitting on her bed reading looking as peaceful as ever while their daughter crumbled to pieces due to her comment.

"Ursa. We need to talk."

Fire family week 2025, Day 4: How I met your mother

"Dad?"

"Yes, Zuko?" Ozai said as he took off his reading glasses and watched his children shove each other to ask the question they had until Ursa and Lu Ten walked, "they wanna know how you and Auntie met!" Lu Ten said as he plotted down in front of Ozai. Ozai sighed, this was his quiet time in his library, and the reason why everyone felt the need to interrupt was a mystery to him, "Ursa." Ozai complained she was the one who could get the kids to leave him alone, "I want to hear your side of the story!" Ursa said as she sat in his lap, ozai rolled his eyes.

"Well, I was a depressed 5-year-old when I met your mother she made it better, when we turned 10 her parents moved her out to the country because Azlon saw her as my lifeline, and then I was a depressed angry awkward teenager then I turned 20.... then I was a depressed angry awkward 20-year-old.... then I and your mother got married when I turned 28.... then we had Zuko and Azula 2 years after...."

"What does depressed mean?" Azula asked

"That was boring..." Lu Ten said

"What.......?" Zuko whispered

Ursa just laughed the entire time and stopped when he looked at her and then started laughing again.

Pregnancy and Childbirth Headcanons -- Fire Nation

Pregnancy and childbirth are major events, and as such many traditions and customs surrounding them arise. These are some of my headcanons about what these traditions look like in the Fire Nation!

This post will discuss events from conception all the way to the first year of a baby's life. Enjoy!

There are no taboos on premarital sex, but it is seen as dishonorable to have children outside of marriage, or at the very least engagement

Abortion is acceptable so long as it is done before the mother can feel movement, usually around 16-20 weeks

Fire Nation families are usually smaller, around 1-3 kids on average

The Fire Nation people also typically have children at an older age than the other nations do, in their late 20s-early 30s. This is due to the fact that a vast majority of the population takes part in the Fire Nation military in their early adult life

The fire lily flower, which is common throughout the Fire Nation, can be used as a contraceptive. The petals are dried and brewed into a tea with contraceptive properties. Many men often wonder why it seems every girl's favorite flower is the fire lily

A ritual arose in the time of Avatar Szeto for those who hope to have a baby. A folded up blanket is placed by the hearth during Szeto's Festival, which celebrates abundance. If this is done, it is said you will have a baby in your arms by the next festival

In Fire Nation culture, women are seen as "responsible" for the outcome of pregnancy. If something goes wrong, it is usually assumed it happened because of something the mother did

While pregnant, women are told to consume as many warm foods as possible, and limit the amount of cold food they have, in order to keep the baby warm and healthy. Some even take it to the extreme and refuse to even have ice in their drinks

Women are also told to keep healthy during their pregnancy. They should not be "lazy" and try to stay in shape, as healthier mothers create stronger and healthier children

Another major superstition is that women should try and only think "good thoughts" while pregnant, as being upset during pregnancy will create an agitated child who is hard to soothe. This is easier said than done with Fire Nation tempers

At some point in the months leading up to the birth of their first child, the expecting parents will journey to their own parents' homes and ask forgiveness for any wrongdoings they did as children. This is meant to keep them humble and prepare them for the difficult task of raising children. (This is only done for the first pregnancy. If the woman has a new, childless partner for another pregnancy, only the partner will have to do this ritual)

At the start of the 9th month of pregnancy, a hair-parting ceremony is held for the expectant mother. Her partner will wash and comb her hair, and during this their friends and family will arrive with homemade meals and snacks, usually whatever the mother has been craving

First-time mothers often travel back to their parents' homes before they give birth, in order to have extra help during the birth and first few weeks postpartum

To induce labor, mothers are told to eat spicy foods -- which the Fire Nation has no shortage of, thankfully

Fathers are expected to help out during labor. Since he helped to create the baby, he has to help bring it earthside, as well

During labor, the father is there to provide emotional and physical support to his partner, often with things like support and counter-pressure during pushing, and plenty of verbal encouragement

Other immediate family members often attend the birth, but the father is the main assistant

A healer or someone with medical experience will attend the birth, but they largely sit back unless there is some difficulty or emergency

When a woman goes into labor, her family will send word to a local Fire Sage, if one is nearby. He will stay outside the home and tend a fire, as it is said the trail of smoke will act as a guide for the baby's spirit

Specific breathing techniques are used during labor as pain relief. It is seen as embarrassing to ask for medical relief, so herbs or other remedies are used only as a last resort

Women are encouraged to give birth in whatever position feels the most comfortable. The most common is kneeling, either on top of the bed or right next to it

The father is the one who catches the baby

After birth, before the placenta detaches, mother and baby will take a warm bath together

While mother and baby get settled, the father will light a lamp in the window of the home. This lamp announces the birth of the baby, and is colored depending on the baby's sex. Typical orange/red is for boys, blue is for girls, and white is used for stillbirths, which represents that the family is now entering a mourning period

Women who die in childbirth or from complications of it are given the same burial honors as soldiers that die in battle

When the placenta arrives, it will be burned. A bit of ash from this fire is placed behind the baby's ear as a symbol of protection

The Fire Nation also does a one month confinement period to allow the mother plenty of time to recover. Warmth is majorly emphasized during this time. Every fire in the house will be going, even during the middle of the summer, to prevent mom and baby from getting cold. Bedrest is not strictly adhered to, but rather simply staying inside and resting

Despite the emphasis for warmth, it is also seen as equally important that mother and baby get sunlight while in confinement. To do this, mothers will bundle their babies up and go sit in a doorway or on a porch for a few hours while the sun is brightest

The firebending test will be administered within a few days of birth (the twig thing from the Kyoshi novels) and done by a local Fire Sage

At the firebending test, male babies will be circumcised, and female babies will have their ears pierced. A baby's first earrings are typically family heirlooms, passed from mother to daughter or from older sister to younger sister

There is a tradition for there to be some kind of dragon iconography in or around the baby's cradle. The dragon is a symbol of protection and power, meant to watch over the baby as it sleeps. Wealthy families may have the dragon carved or painted onto the crib itself, while less affluent families typically have something like a homemade stuffed toy or sewn onto a blanket

Baby clothes should never be dried at night, as it is said to attract dark spirits. Clothes should be dried outside in the sun, or inside near a fire if the weather doesn't permit. Never at night

While crying can by annoying, the Fire Nation believes that babies that cry loudly are healthier and will grow up stronger

When a baby is one month old and the confinement period ends, the family will hold a gathering where they cut the baby's hair. Relatives and friends will bring golden bangles for the baby, and each cut a piece of the baby's hair. After gifts are given, the mother will finish by shaving the baby's head completely. The cut hair is placed in a fire and burned. This ritual is done to ensure the baby grows long, healthy hair in the future

The confinement period ends after a month, but most mothers will stay home from work until their baby is fully eating solids and weaned from breastmilk, typically around a year old. After this, the baby will stay with family or close friends so the mother can return to her job

Fire Family Week 2025, Day 3: Hair, Training, private quarters<3

(I didn't go over this) I tried to get all 3 lol😭

Ozai watched silently as his wife brushed his daughter's hair, Zuko stood beside him. Ozai looked down at his son and sighed, "Zuko. Come." He said as he started leaving, Zuko followed silently behind his father, and they walked towards his father's room. Zuko had never been inside his father's room, only his mother's and Azula's, and occasionally Lu Ten's when he was home, he was rarely home as lately.

The room was huge, much bigger than his mother's.

"Father..?"

"Go change into your training clothes. We are gonna train together, I need to see how you are advancing anyway." Ozai said fanning him away, Zuko ran off to change. Ursa brushed Azula's hair, "You have beautiful hair, Azula... like your father's," Ursa said softly as she kissed Azula's head, Azula giggled, "You are going to be an amazing woman when you're older..." Ursa said softly as Zuko came running in, "Azula! Dad wants to train with us! Zuko said quickly before coming to a full stop before he ran into the vanity that Ursa and Azula were sitting at, "Are you alright Zuko?" Ursa asked as she checked his face for any scratches, "Yes Mother! Azula, Dad said to change into train clothes!" Zuko said as he started to run away to change himself. Azula ran away not too long after, ursa sighed in frustration as she got up and walked to where ozai was training, "Ozai! I was trying to bond with Azula! You know I missed bonding with her when she was a baby and I'm trying to do that now!" Ursa yelled.

"It's not my fault you ignored our daughter for the first five years of her life! That was your choice!"

"Ughhhhh! Fine! Whatever! I hope you get poisoned!"

"I'D RATHER BE POISONED TO DEATH THAN MARRIED TO YOU!"

"OH WELL LOOK WHO YOU'RE MARRIED TO!"

Ursa yelled in frustration before storming off and running into her kids, "Look who, who is married too?" Zuko asked, "Umm, I was telling your father happy I was to be able to love him, it just came out a.... little aggressive" Ursa said as bent down to kiss him and Azula, Ursa similed at her children as she left and flipped ozai off with thier children seeing.

A few hours later, Ursa walked into Ozai's room, "What do you want Ursa?" Ozai said, she closed her eyes and folded her arms, "You're the one who called me he-" Ursa said getting cut off by Ozai kissing her, which she grudgingly accepted. They stumbled around his room and landed on his bed, with Ozai on top, "I want another kid..." Ozai said breathlessly, "I figured- but uhh, why... I mean I like it when we have hate s-" Ursa said getting cut off again by another kiss.

"Let me talk, Zai. I wanna know why?"

"Because I want a sequel to azula."

"I thought Azula was Zuko's sequel?"

"No, she was the upgrade."

Fire Family Week 2025, Day 2: Turtle-duck!

"Ursa this is stupid..." he said as he watched her through crumbs at turtle ducks as they made their way over to her. "Ozai stop being a crybaby and sit down and join me," Ursa responded quickly, "Ursa-" Ozai said trying to reinstate his authority but got cut off by his newlywed wife who was much nicer 7 months ago.

"Your wife, who is 6 mouths pregnant, has just asked you to sit down and stop whining like a little-"

"Language fire princess"

"And are you going to tell her no?"

Ursa's eyes were fierce and determined, ozai sat down beside her grudgingly.

"Here." She said giving him a few crumbs and showing him how to feed the turtle-ducks. "There you go zai..." she said as she kissed his cheek, "What was your childhood like?" Ozai questioned as he looked at her, "I thought I wasn't supposed to talk about that..." she mumbled confused but keeping her tone steady. "Yes. But I'm your husband, we shall not speak of that... vermin... that you were so attached to..." Ozai said with venom in his voice, Ursa cleared her throat at the mention of her ex-lover, "Well, I was a problem child..." Ursa said fondly at the memories that started to flood her mind.

"I know..." Ozai said softly

"I've missed being here with you when we moved out of the capital..."

"Here?"

"By the turtle-duck pond with the turtle-ducks, right here. It was our favorite spot," Ursa whispered looking around and taking it all in like it was the last time she would see it.

"I've missed it too, firelilly..."

"Ursa...no." Ozai said as he watched his, at this point, he didn't know what they were. She was his ex-wife, but they had been living together since he was put on house arrest on an island, in one of the many beach houses that the royal family owned but never used. "Ozai, she's your granddaughter who you love!" Ursa said as she kissed Izumi who giggled in response, "Say hi to Grandpa Ozai!" Ursa said as she pointed at Ozai.

"I refuse to be called Grandpa Ozai"

Zuko laughed from behind the door, "Get over brat!" Ozai said, "That is no way to speak to your fire lord!" Zuko yelled back, their relationship had gotten better in the past 13 years, as much as it could anyway. "Why are you here?" Ozai complained as he put his arm around Ursa as she turned to face Zuko. "I need a babysitter!" Zuko said simply as he gave his father a look that said much more than he let on, "We are gonna look after Izumi for a bit!" Ursa said as she started to leave to let Izumi take a nap leave Ozai and zuko alone.

"So what is it really?"

"Assassin. Me and Mai can take care of ourselves but Izumi can't, and after the last attempt I feel she'll be safer here, with you and mom."

"How? I'm not a bender anymore and neither is your mother."

Zuko ignored the jab about his bending and continued, "This is the last place they'll think she'll be," Zuko said turning and walking out the door to say bye to his daughter and mother before he left. " Izumi looks like her mother when she was her age, so cute" Ursa said as she walked back into the room where Ozai was. It was a room filled with books from the floor to the roof, two chairs right beside each other, a desk on the other side of the room, and a rug in the middle of the room with a phoenix on it. The rug was entirely Ursa's idea, she was never gonna let him live down the name of "phoenix king" down.

Ozai hummed in agreement with Ursa's previous comment, "You know you could try a little more with Izumi, she wants to get to know you," Ursa said as she stood in front of him. Ozai stopped reading and looked up at her, "No, Ursa..." he said warning as he got up and walked past her to leave, "You know I always found it super attractive when you were being fatherly to the kids, it could be just as hot if you act like a grandpa to Izumi..!" Ursa said softly as he side-eyed her on his way out, only making her laugh.

But later after Izumi had woken up from her nap Ursa found Ozai reading to Izumi, and Ursa chuckled. "What?" Ozai questioned as he and Izumi looked up from their book, "sit!" Izumi yelled as she tapped the spot beside her on the bed, "Sure, sweetie!" Ursa said softly as she walked over.

A little later Izumi had fallen asleep again in Ozai's arms, "she sleeps a lot..." Ozai said as he looked down at her, "She's 2, and Zuko slept a lot when he was her age, plus she's been traveling all day... poor baby" Ursa mumbled as she moved hair out of Izumi's face. Ozai hummed in agreement.

"You're doing great gramps"

"Don't call me Gramps Ursa, I'm too young for that"

"GRAMPS!" Izumi yelled as she opened her eye and giggled, Ursa laughed, "You have been dubbed gramps!" Ursa said as she kissed Izumi's head. Ozai grumbled something about his honor and pride as he rolled his eyes.
