reblog and make a wish! this was removed from tumbrl due to “violating one or more of Tumblr’s Community Guidelines”, but since my wish came true the first time, I’m putting it back. :)

I feel like the legal institution of adoption is unreasonably limited by restricting it to parent-child relationships. If me and some random asshole want to legally be second cousins, I think we should just be able to do that.

Anyway.
For those of you aren't aware and aren't involved in NDN circles, the Supreme Court just declared that tribal territories and reservations are part of states and are under state jurisdiction, including in regards to charging someone and putting them on trial in state courts for crimes related to the tribe (as opposed to this being left up to tribal courts), undoing decades of precedent for the separation of tribal and state governments.
In a few months, the Supreme Court is also going to be giving a verdict on whether or not the Indian Child Welfare Act, the only thing keeping indigenous children with their families and communities instead of being "adopted" (trafficked) to white Christian families at every chance, is unconstitutional. This act is also dependent on the belief that tribes are sovereign nations and that giving our children to people outside of our tribes is akin to the US government taking Canadian children in the Canadian foster system and trying to adopt them out to American families.
If the ICWA falls, we're going to see a modern Sixties Scoop, with Native children being stolen from their tribes and families and cultures and assimilated into white Christian society. This is not only traumatizing for the children and their families, it's also a form of cultural genocide that has been used against us before and has devastating effects.
There are family members I never knew because they disappeared into the foster system as children.
This is the beginning of what's going to be wave after wave of attacks on indigenous sovereignty and tribal governance. The Supreme Court, even with a Democratic majority, has historically decided against upholding indigenous sovereignty and tribal protection. We're seeing genocide and forced assimilation become federal policy again.

controversial opinion but self harm scars shouldn’t have to be censored/tagged and definitely not covered up. that’s someone’s body. people who’ve self harmed and have scars from it already have to deal with so much and you’re gonna go and “well, some people might be triggered by seeing scars like that!” without even considering that it might be triggering to have something about your appearance deemed upsetting you can’t change triggering?
if someone wants to show their scars that’s their own damn business and it’s not your place to decide what is and isn’t “appropriate” for the larger public to see. what those scars came from is their own damn business. yeah seeing s/h scars could be hard for some people to see, but guess what? some people have a hard time seeing any scars at all, seeing cleavage, seeing skin conditions, seeing someone that just so happens to look like an abuser, etc. and it’s not considered the norm to shove those out of sight for being potentially triggering.
look, I’m not talking about fresh wounds here, I’m talking about a part of someone’s body. if you preach diversity and body positivity than you have zero right to pretend s/h scars are different just because it makes you personally uncomfortable. illustrations of scarred characters or pictures of real people alike, if you say nobody deserves to feel ashamed of their body than you better damn well include mentally ill people in that, including the mentally ill people you’d rather pretend aren’t affected by you acting like their scars make them “hard to look at”

summer is approaching you know what that means….
please don’t make comments about people’s scars. please don’t question why your friend is wearing long sleeves even when it’s super hot out. please don’t stare or make us feel any more uncomfortable than we already do. for anyone who’s struggled with self harm and has scars from it, the decision whether or not to wear clothing that reveals them is an incredibly stressful and personal one. so please don’t add any additional pressure to that.
and to anyone who does have self harm scars: i love you and you are allowed to wear whatever makes you most comfortable. you are wonderful ♥️

prolifers be like “if it has a heartbeat its a child >:/” (with a few states even banning abortion outright believing human rights for a zygote begin at fertilization, even overriding the rights of the conscious mother)
i need to inform you that there there are germ cell tumors that have teeth, hair, muscle, and even nervous tissue, some even growing into pseudo-fetal forms. they’re called teratomas. (if you’re squeamish don’t look it up.) by their logic, if a teratoma were to grow cardiac cells, it would also be a “child” with rights. it’s ridiculous how little they know about biology. just because it has heart cells doesnt make it viable outside the mother. fuckin morons everywhere.
this has actually been reported before. teratomas can become freakishly differentiated:
A. developed a rudimentary beating heart
B. developed a fetal cranial structure as well as cerebral cortex and retinal pigment (cw for images)
biology isn’t as black and white as morals. all of these are “living” insofar as cells are the basic unit of life, but we don’t give tumors human rights because they are not viable and can be harmful or unwanted to the host. fertilized germ cells are no different. a heart is just tissue, just as skin or bone is. a fetus growing a heart doesnt mean shit or give it a soul, just as much as a teratoma differentiating into cardiac cells does (or even hair or fat cells). a fetus wouldn’t know if it was aborted because it would have no means to know that, neither would a teratoma know it was removed. however, pregnancy and birth have life-altering consequences for the bearer. not the fetus. the bearer of the pregnancy. and i’m sorry i have to say it but it absolutely applies here: facts don’t care about your feelings. biology is creepy and weird and of a grey area like this regardless of how morally repugnant you think it is. can you imagine someone suing a hospital for removing a germ cell tumor with heart cells in it? that’s basically what’s happening. and then arresting the living mother for wanting control over what grows in her own body (to her detriment if she does not want or cannot have it, since the only real upside to pregnancy for the mother is emotional. it’s physiologically stressful no matter what and potentially life-threatening). and then trying to sue or arrest people who help the mother find a way do that.

German parliament deciding to get rid of a law that forbids doctors to inform about abortions and the US taking away the right to get an abortion on the same day is fucking crazy

This isn't just stripping away a woman's rights and bodily autonomy, women are going to die because of this decision. Chronically ill women, disabled women, reproductively challenged women, Jewish women are going to die because of this. A decision that was made by men, for men. We were never part of the equation. We were just pawns in their political game. This is sickening.

it’s the fact that because roe v wade was overturned that now people that have miscarriages can be prosecuted in states where abortion is illegal
