Seeing that Tucker Carlson clip going around and being reminded of conversations a year ago, so just a reminder. When Neo Nazis and White Supremacists say things that make sense politically, they're not coming at it from the same angle as you.
When David Duke expresses support for Palestine, it's not because he cares about Palestinians, it's because he hates Jews, and he wants to use Israel to harm diaspora Jews.
Neo Nazis see the justified opposition to Israel and its actions as a path into new crowds they can radicalize, or a way to launder their rhetoric and their politics.
They don't care about Iran and Iranians, they have a goal, and it's just as horrible as any White Supremacist goal. Especially when it's political figures and not some random bigot you know in your life that can be deradicalized because he's having some epiphany. To right wing figures, everything is a hunting ground.
Don't spread their words as if "even that horrible person sees how bad this is." Fascists have been stealing leftist ideas and talking points since the beginning. He doesn't suddenly care about people of color. He's seeing an opening for something and he's grabbing at it.
You have people you can platform that don't spread rhetoric that enables hate crimes on a regular basis.

i tripped over a bag i'd left on the floor the other night and fell on bella's food stand. it is made of sturdy metal, and the top used to be a flat surface. it now looks like this:
Tumblr media
so you can imagine how gnarly the bruise on my arm is
when dropping bella off with my dogsitter today, he was alarmed by this and asked me what happened. i was like "oh i just tripped and fell" to which he responded, extremely skeptically, "you 'just fell'????"
and i was like, shit, glad i have a pic on my phone of the damage to prove that i really did injure myself and am not covering for an abusive partner, which he very clearly suspected before i showed him what happened
but, see it has since occurred to me that i have plans this weekend that involve intentionally acquiring consensually inflicted bruises... so, uhh, note to self: no matter how hot it gets next week, be sure to cover said bruises entirely when dropping bella off 😅

i'm currently listening to a podcast about pentecostalism and one season covers a small denomination started by some lady in nashville the 30s, and the host interviews this scholar who's like "she had a most unusual doctrine that i don't think you'll find anywhere, and it has to do with communion" and the host is like building it up with ominous music. so i was like well damn pentecostalism can get pretty wild i wonder what this crazy doctrine is!!!
y'all. y'all it was literally just transubstantiation
At almost any other church that does communion, or eucharist or whatever you want to call it, the bread and wine merely symbolize the body and blood of Jesus Christ. But at Emmanuel, Nina took the whole Lord's Supper thing to a whole nother level. She somehow came to believe that the bread and wine literally becomes the body and blood of Christ!
like ahfhsjdjsg yes that is in fact what approximately half of practicing christians in the world believe
i cannot stress enough the ominous background music akfhsksksj
what's charming tho is that this nina lady seems to have reinvented the latin rite eucharist from first principles, so she was like ahh the last supper was during passover so it needs to be kosher for passover! but instead of just using unleavened bread she goes by modern jewish standards. so her church's version of communion uses matzah bread and mogen david wine ajfhsksk
and then the host was like and not only that, but they have a /foot washing ceremony/ on holy thursday each year!!!! how bizarre!!!!
i mean this podcast is teaching me a lot about pentecostalism but girl maybe loop in somebody with broader knowledge of christianity to go over your scripts lmao

ugh i've been getting 3 migraines a week lately so i saw a doctor and he upped my dose of amitriptyline and so far it hasn't helped at all. all it seems to be doing is causing some weight gain which wouldn't be that big of a deal if i weren't extremely emotionally attached to my current wardrobe

Michael Hobbes: This was a lab that had international researchers working there. This was a lab that published in, like, Science and Nature. This was very much a part of the international virological community. In five years, we’ve had no whistleblowers come forward and say “Hey, I did a six-month project in Wuhan, and I was really concerned about their safety protocols.” We’ve had no emails [or] any internal document of any kind indicating a safety event or a secret program. This lab has been subjected to unprecedented scrutiny over the last five years, and it’s just turned up nothing. Peter Shamshiri: And, of course, all of this can be chalked up to the efficiency and secrecy of the dastardly Chinese. Michael: Exactly.

Tumblr media
then today my neighbor told me the singer had included a shoutout to bella in her facebook post about the show 🥹💖
Tumblr media
"Thank you to Bella, the canine neighbor who came out to sing a few notes with us during the last tune"
here's the bella pic she included:

i'm doing community service to pay off all my parking tickets (i rarely remember to move my car to the other side my the street then back on the right days) and my assignment is hanging out with old people, which is rad
and unlike virtually every francophone montrealer under the age of 70, elderly francophones don't switch to english the second they hear my accent!
what's been interesting is that two of the three old people i've hung out with so far have clocked that i'm an immigrant based on my accent, which is fascinating! i thought i just sounded like every other sub-fluent anglophone montrealer, but apparently i sound foreign?
i am very okay with this because as soon as people learn that i'm american my mediocre french is suddenly impressive lmao

genuinely fucking hate posts like this.
the reason people define JK Rowling by her transphobia and not the racism/antisemitism in her books (which are, unfortunately, very typical 90s YA fantasy in those regards) is because she hasn't dedicated her entire life & wealth since Harry Potter to systematically destroying those communities. she didn't become the figurehead for nazis, or the KKK. she isn't spending millions of pounds stripping people of color and Jewish people of their rights. she isn't lobbying to segregate them from bathrooms and have them legally recognised as Not People.
when people pithily make posts about how there is too much focus on her transphobia comparative to other bigotries, what you are saying is that violence against transgender people is less important than writing bad offensive books. i cannot stress how obviously wrong & dangerous this type of "whataboutism" shit is to anybody who gives a fuck about trans people.
