the official BTS instagram accounts are: BTS (@/bts.bighitofficial), namjoon (@/rkive), jin (@/jin), yoongi (@/agustd), hobi (@/uarmyhope), jimin (@/j.m), taehyung (@/thv), and jungkook (@/jungkook.97). any other accounts claiming to be BTS are fakes

for your own mental health and peace of mind, do not get involved in anything on twitter. follow some translation/data accounts, your friends, the boys themselves (they only have @/BTS_twt and @/BTS_bighit on there), and that's it. if you're trying to make friends, do it on tumblr. of all my friends who are into BTS, only one was active in twitter drama, and i cut contact last spring bc of just how miserable and toxic of a person she constantly was (note: speaking out about racism does not count as "twitter drama")

some good accounts on twitter are: BTS Charts & Translations (@/charts_k), claire (@/btstranslation7), sel (@/BTStranslation_), haruharu (@/haruharu_w_bts), soo choi (@/choi_bts2), qdeoks (@/rubberdeokies — they post streaming links so you don't have to pay for online concerts and stuff), and the leader of the fandom: BTS Charts (@/btschartdata)

more twitter tips: @/modooborahae is an antiblack racist who more than half the fandom has blocked for antiblackness, constant drama, hating jimin including translating a pro-nazi article about how japanese neo-nazis wanted to kill him (she claimed it was to spread awareness, but everybody already knew about the situation + she gave a platform to far-right extremists), and much more. @/BTS_ARMY is run by a stalker who the members have a restraining order against; that account has so many followers bc they bought fake/spam followers to look legit and now that tricks people into following them. do your research before following big accounts

"sasaeng" = stalker. "fansites" = sasaengs. if you see a picture of a BTS member on an airplane, in an airport, in their private time, etc and it wasn't posted by an official verified BTS account — it was taken by a stalker. no fans EVER have permission to show up at the airport. the members have repeatedly talked about how uncomfortable this stuff makes them; do not contribute in spreading it

understand that BTS came from a very poor company, while almost all other kpop groups were/are very privileged by comparison. BTS's company bighit almost went bankrupt several times in the first couple years of BTS's career, their first few albums were produced in a literal garage, and a few of the boys came from poverty (yoongi in particular has talked about growing up not eating every day due to having no money for food) and have talked about how other kpop idols would make fun of them at music shows for being poor. they built all this from the ground up and are now the biggest band in the world due to their hard work and talent

okay now that that's all out of the way:

listen to every song, even the old songs, the mixtapes (so far, namjoon and yoongi each have two solo mixtapes/albums, and hobi has one), the soundcloud singles, the covers, etc. for example, jungkook has a lot of covers that were posted on twitter and can now be found on youtube, and namjoon's first mixtape RM is only available on soundcloud. i also recommend finding the hidden track "sea" and reading the lyrics and everything

back around 2015-2016, BTS music videos were part of a ~cinematic universe~ with a continuing storyline. watch the "i need u: original version" music video (rated R) to really jump in

BTS has a lot of songs about social issues. for example, "baepsae" is about classism, "the last" is about yoongi's mental health issues, "always" is about namjoon's suicidal feelings, and namjoon said in a vlive that he wrote the song "paradise" about capitalism after reading das kapital

weverse is a free app the BTS members post on sometimes; it's like twitter but directly for BTS fans. these days though, they mostly post on instagram, and anything posted on weverse will be reposted all over twitter, especially by translation accounts

weverse shop is the free app where you can buy all the official merch, if you want that kind of thing. i had notifications on for the twitter account @/BTSMerchUpdates and that's how i was able to get the wind chime yesterday — if you're interested in the official merch that sells out super fast, follow them

vlive is a website and free app where the boys do live vlogs, which are later uploaded with subtitles. i HIGHLY recommend namjoon's vlives for albums — because he writes/produces so many of their songs, he does a vlive after every album release where he talks about behind the scenes stuff related to the different songs' meanings, production, etc

Run BTS is a variety show (available 100% for free on both vlive and weverse) where the boys play games with each other; there are over 150 episodes and they're all so fun. i highly recommend this for getting to know their personalities and having a fun time

"oppa" = literally means older brother, spoken by a woman, but is used for any slightly older man that a woman feels close to. if you aren't korean and you call the BTS guys this, you will be made fun of. in english it's mostly used ironically, like if you're making fun of the way a cringey fan talks about ~jungkook oppa~

"hyung" = literally means older brother, spoken by a man, but is used for any slightly older man that a man feels close to. the BTS members will call each other this often; for example, jungkook would call jin "jin hyung" since jungkook is younger than jin.

lastly: if you're really really interested in diving in with BTS, i made this post back a while. read the entire thing. it's important to keep in mind that they're human beings capable of both mistakes and growth.
